Hi Jim
Sometime before 1900 my group of Rollins moved from Lee County, VA to Collin Co., TX, they included James Robert Rollins (1837 - 1910) and his sons James Peyton Rollins, John J. Rollins (1866). John J. Rollins had a son by the name of Jessie Neal Rollins (b. abt 1895) I am not sure if these are the ones you are looking for and I did not give you the entire family information. If they are the ones then you can contact me.

Sandra Grace-Haller

Re: Rollins family of Lee Co. VA.

Hi
I am a descendant of John A. Rollins (wife - Hannah Cox) oldest daughter, Sarah Ann Rollins (married to Stephen Crigger). He was born about 1827 VA and died sometime after 1902 in Gibson, Lee Co., VA. He served in the Civil War along with his son-in-law, Stephen Crigger, my great grandfather.

I am not sure who Mary and Isaac Rollins are. I don't believe they are in the same group of Rollins.

R.R. Rollins is a brother of John A. Rollins and his name is Robert R. Rollins and his wife is Rebecca Martin. John A. and Robert R. Rollins also had a brother James Robert Rollins married to Barbara Crigger and a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Rollins married to Peter Crigger. If there is other information we could share just let me know.

If you look at the 1850 US Federal Census for a John and Sarah Rawlings in Lee Co., VA you will see them with the children - Margaret, James and Robert. This John (born abt 1785 VA abt died 1854 Lee Co., VA) and Sarah are the parents.

Sandra Grace-Haller

If you want to check this out you can go to the Rollings/Waldon Message Board and the message was received from Teresa Alexander Branda.

Is there a way we can exchange messages other than doing it thru this message board?

Please keep in touch and we'll get this worked out.

Marv Rollings

T.J. Rollins to Mahala and/or Anne Eveline

I have been going around in circles on this issue; I checked the dates of TJ's marriage to Mahala, which was 1834, and she died in the 1880's. Then I see a marriage by a TJ Rollins to a Anne Evaline Johnson in 1849. So, are these TJ's the same? Did he divorce Mahala, or is the TJ who married Anne Eveline a different TJ?

Anyone who can help, please reply. Thanks, P. Grepo

Thanks for the offer of pictures. Email would be fine with me, if you could. It would be interesting to compare my gg grandfather with yours. "Thomas Jefferson" must have been a very popular name for quite some time after the Revolution. I have seen these duplicate Rollins records, and I have tried to be careful in my research, because of the name similarity, and also because of the various name spellings. I've also tried to actually go to these cemeteries to take pictures of the memorials, and compare dates. Thanks for the offer.

Thanks for the reply. There is confusion on these two T J Rollins'. I went to Dardanelle, Arkansas, to the Graves Cemetery and actually saw the grave of MY T J Rollins, and his wife, Annie Evaline, in addition to most of the rest of their family. His daughter (my great grandmother) Nancy Ann Rollins Downing was buried in Wewoka, Oklahoma with her husband William W Downing and one of her daughters, Nettie. I have seen the other ancestries that you spek about, and I was cofused for a short while, but was able to separate them. I am trying to locate more pictures taken in the later 1800's in exchange for more recent pictures (1880 to 1935 or so). I appreciate your reply, since this was cause me to be careful in my search.

The William Wallace Rollins whose death certificate you refer to is my GG Uncle. His parents were Thomas Jefferson and Mahala Clement Rollins. TJ was born in Ameila Co. VA, Malahal, I believe, was born in Spartanburg Co. SC. WW is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Asheville, NC with his wife. The Tighe that gave information on the death certificate was his son-in-law, Richard J. Tighe who was married to Emma A. Rollins. Somewhere along the line two Thomas Jefferson Rollins' families have been combined. My TJ was only married once - to Mahala Clement.

There are some fmily trees at Ancestry which combine two Thomas Jefferson Rollins families. If you would like to share I can provide proof that my TJ was in Madison Co. NC in 1880.
The only pictures I have were taken sometime between 1865 and 1885. All of them are of TJ, Mahala, WW, Pinckney, and my GGG grandmother Elizabeth. Since I starting researching my ancestors the two TJ's have been combined. That said I can prove that the TJ who lived in Madison Co. NC did not live in AR in the mid 1870's. I have a letter written by him to his son-in-law George W. Ballard husband of Elizabeth Rollins dated March 8, 1875. If you would like I will try to scan it and send it to you eithier via e-mail or postage. Let me know if you are interested.
Becki

Hi, I find this interesting as my great grandmother was also named Frances Marion Rollins, but her maiden name was Dotson. She was named after her father, Francis Marion Dotson. They were from W Virginia. She married Barton Rollins also from W Virginia. I always wonder if there is some type of connection when names are the same. Did these families know each other somehow, or is it coincidence, or was there someone famous in the day named Francis Marion to make that combination of names popular?

She and DS Peterson divorced and then she married my grandfather, Asa Graves Carter. they resided in Ellisville MS, had 3 daughters, Lessie Lee, Annie Bynum and my mother, Kate Emma, and later moved to California, I believe in the 1920s or 1930s.

My Rollins, Rollings, Rawlings line comes from VA and one of the things that made it hard for us to track was the spelling of the last name. It was originaly spelled Rawlings but in the 1790's we found several family members who had signed documents with both Rawlings and Rollings. Which later changed to Rollins. My family also has used the names you are mentioning over and over again. For instance, my 6th gr grandfather John Rollings and his brothers all left VA around the same time after the death of their parents. All of the brothers ended up in different states, and when he got to North Carolina he had named all of his kids after his siblings. One of which was a Jesse Rawlings. The only thing we know about him is that he was born in Sussex county VA between 1750 and 1770. He had brothers Jesse, James, Burwell, and sisters Susan, Rabeka, and Nancy. Their parents were Gregory Rawlings b. 1715 and Sarah Holt b. 1734. Like I said we have no Idea what happened to Jesse James, or Burwell but John named 3 of his sons after them. How sure are you of the birth date and county of your Jesse Rollings?
