Hello Bonnie,

I have yet to find a connection, if any exists, between the Rollisons of Kent County, MD and the Rollisons of Montgomery County, MD and Loudoun County, VA. The Kent County folks have been documented extensively but unfortunately, I cannot recall the names of the researchers. If you haven't already tried this, google "Rollison's of Kent County, MD" and see what comes up. Have fun.

Richard E. Rollison

June 1775, Kent Co. MD. Men who joined the Continental Army and gave their Oath of Allegiance. The original, faded, almost illegible Militia list has at last to rest at the H. Historical Society to allow those interested to look at it. Two of them are James Rollison, 1st Lt.,8th Company & John Rollison, Ensign, 6th Company. There are many Rollisons today in Kent Co. Maryland. James, oldest son of John Rollison Sr., had a daughter born 1759. John Rollison Sr. came from England (no date) and was Scots-Irish.

This information is from the first page of my Rollison Ancestry book, containing information provided by many, gathered and compiled by my sister the late Ruth Jackson, Clay City, IN.

I hope this helps with your quest.

John Rollison
Carmichael CA.

Hello, I check Rootsweb, every so often to see if there is any "new" news on my family. I found this message today. I am a descendant of Benjamin Rollison through his son Isaac b.Mar 8 1842(some sources say May), who married Maria Barnum. Jacob Rollison from Monongahela, was his brother. I would be interested in any new information you have on Benjamin, and thank you for the correction on Jacob. Have we been in contact in the past? My mother was in contact with a David Rollison, a descendant of Jacob. Actually my mother's family and the Rollison's of Moniongahela were quite close years ago.
Thank you again,
Carol Evans Webb

I do not recognize the name, but I am looking for information on the Rollison family. My gg grandfather lived in Anderson County, SC. He was born about 1832 and died in the Civil War. His name was Benjamin G. Rollison. I know nothing about his family - parents, siblings, etc. I am trying to find out if he had family in the Mississippi area. I found a J G Rollison listed on the 1860 census as living in Hinds County, MS, and he was born in SC. He does not show on the 1870 census. Can you help me?

Rollison - Pontiac Mich

I have pictures of a Earl Rollison Sr. I also have a picture of a James Rollison, born Nov 16th 1888. These pictures were found in a box of pictures that belonged to the Cookstons of Ohio. Also, in the box was pictures of the LaBarre's, Moore's and the Kessler's. The pictures that I have of Rollison's are pictures taken when they were about 7-10 years old. Most of the other pictures of the other people were taken at Watkin's Lake @ Pontiac, Mich. If you know any of these people or are kin to the Rollison's I mentioned, please e-mail me and I will give you as much infomation that I can. I am trying to contact the decendents of these old pictures dating back to the 1800's.
Hope these are your kin,
Phyllis
Dear Matt,

I found the ggggrandson of the Cookston family. In the boxes of pictures were also some of the Rollison family. I think somewhere along the way you are related to the Cookston's in some fashion.

Ron Cookston notified me about a week and a half ago and verified his family tree relating to most of the pictures. Most of the pictures and all of the old newspaper clippings were of the Cookston family.

There were also pictures of the Rollison's, McElvy's, etc. and I placed notices on the message boards of all the families I could find names on.

I mailed the box of pictures to Ron Cookston last week. It is a true treasure. You can contact him at RLCookies@aol.com. I'm sure he would like to here from you. I have been communicating with him through email. I feel sure he will share any info with you and perhaps send you copies of the pictures.

Would love to hear from you again after you have made contact with Ron to see if you two are related.

I bought the pictures at an auction in Rossville, TN (can't hardly find it on map). I live north of Memphis, and about 40 miles from Rossville. I just did not want to see the pictures thrown in the trash and decided to try and find any decendents.

Good Luck with your family tree. If I can be of anymore help, please email me at tiapmf@aol.com.

Phyllis

Jacob Rollison / Rollason / Rollinson, Monongahela, PA

I have noted in some postings and some on-line family records that Jacob Rollison is listed as having been born in Pennsylvania. This is not correct and, I believe, is the result of some incorrect information I gave to another genealogist about a decade ago. There is a census record that lists Jacob as having been born in PA. I found this record back in 1986, in the days when research meant spending endless hours sifting through microfilm records in the Pennsylvania Room at the Carnegie Library in Oakland, Pittsburgh. At the time I did not find any records to contradict this and, as stated before, about ten years ago passed the information on to someone who requested it. I was not actively doing research at the time. Since then I again caught the bug and discovered the error. Other records including census and christening records from Dudley from which the family emmigrated clearly show that Jacob was born in December 1845 in Dudley and came to this country with his mother and most of his brothers and sisters between 1851 and 1860. It appears that the father, Benjamin, born abt.1803, had died, probably in 1844. Jacob became a coal miner, went on to marry Mary Ann Smith, served in Company C of the 5th Heavy Artillery Regiment Pennsylvania in the Civil War and had six children, three of whom survived into adulthood.
I've some additional info about one of his siblings that I've not seen listed in anyone else's tree. His older brother John who was christened on 6 September 1835 in Dudley, immigrated with the rest, and married a woman named Sarah, became a coal miner here and died 15 July 1868 in a coal bank accident and is buried in Potter's Field Lot 1 in the Monongahela Cemetery. There is no record of their having had any children.
I apologize for the Jacob error.
