Re: Chicago Romano

Update: I have had the great and fortunate opportunity to travel to my grandfather's birthplace in Scisciano Italy and meet the Romano relatives on the land and in the home where Erminio was born. An amazing journey! I have come to learn that the Romano relatives in Chicago were cousins (not brothers as stated on the ship manifest) to Erminio. If you are searching for Romano and your relatives are from the Chicago area please contact me. The ship manifest did give the Halsted Street address but I am unsure if that is accurate. The Romano cousins likely have originated from the Naples area. Thank you!

Romano/Blasi in Utica, NY

My great aunts Concetta and Lucia Blasi came to America in 1898 with their respective husbands Rocco Romano and Antonio Perretta. They settled in Utica, NY from Lauranzano, Italy. Rocco & Concetta Romano had 3 children, Amadeo, Mario & Cesira. Antonio and Lucia Perretta had 4 children, John, Ceasar, Rosina and Cora. Rocco Romano was a barber and died before 1910. Antonio was a milk dealer and died before 1938. I'm looking for information on the descendants of their children who seemed to remain in Utica, NY. The rest of the Blasi sisters settled and brothers (Francesca, Michael and Maria my grandmother) settled downstate in Westchester and Bronx County, NY.

Hello Jose,

My grandfather, Carmine Romano, immigrated to the US from Italy in the early 1900's...one of his brother's, and his father, were supposed to come to the US but ended up in Uruguay and were never heard of again. Maybe this is the same family? What was your grandfather's name? I will do more research.

Lynn Romano Zimney

Hello! I'm looking for my grandfather, Erminio Romano's brother. According to his ship manifest from 1907 he was planning to be with his brother Antonio Romano. His brother lived at 388 S. Halsted Street Chicago, IL. at that time. As best I can tell he never left NY (Brooklyn) to be with his brother. My grandfather is from Scisciano Italy. He was born in 1891 and was a farmer. He did own some land in Scisciano but signed it over to relatives when he realized he would not be returning. If anyone has an relevant information, please contact me. Thank you all and good luck with your searches.

Don't know if we're connected, and I don't have too much information, but here goes.

Josephine (Josie) Romano (b. btw 1910 & 1920) married Avina [surname unknown] and settled on east coast of Florida.

Josie had a brother, Sal Romano. The two were raised in New Orleans and had other relatives down there.

Their grandfather or great-grandfather was the half-brother to Biagio Siragusa, who immigrated in 1892 to New York City from Palermo, Sicily (it is possible that he wasn't born in Palermo, as he moved much later in his life). Biagio was the son of Antonio Siragusa and Lena Pinnola, both of Sicily.

We have a photo of these "Siragusa Cousins", the Romanos, taken c. 1934. We have identified only Sal and Josie.

Any ideas?
Hello,
I am researching the Romano families of Bessemer, AL for a friend in Birmingham. This Romano family immigrated from Biscquino, Italy, at varying dates, but I am looking at 1889 to N.O. for Michael/Samuel and family. Some came to Bessemer, AL to the industries, some stayed for a while in LA and others just stayed in LA. They seemed to have come in great numbers from the same area.
Michael lived with his mother, Angelina Failla Romano, in Bessemer in 1900. She stated in the census that she had had 8 ch. and 5 living. Mike was 38 and single. Later, he married Santa Raineri. My friend has a Bible that mentions his wife's Raineri family. The Bible is in Italian and beautifully handwritten. Have seen copies of it.
Can you add to the pre-Alabama family info? Many Italians worked the sugarcane and cotton fields in LA, before moving to Bessemer/Birmingham, it says in a Bessemer book called: The Italians. Wages & opportunities were great, because of the trieving industries of that area at the time.
Tried to reach Christy of Birmingham, who once posted to this site, but my email came back.
Any thoughts would be welcome. Thank you.
Betty Nesmith in AL

Does anyone have info on the Romano family that ended in the area of Birmingham, called Bessemer? This particular family came from Bisacquino in 1889. Some Romanos stayed in N.O., others migrated to the steelmills/mines/railroad industries of the Birmingham area. Micheli, Angelina Failla Romano, his mother, and other siblings. Later, the families left at home in IT. came. Believe there may have been members, who came earlier to this area.
BJN

Is this right?

Maria (Mary) married Francesco (Frank) Peronace in CT and they had 3 children, Francesco (Frank), Assunta (Susan), & Dolores who are all married and living in CT. I don't know more, so I'd appreciate any info. Thanks, Catherine
