Iam a Hinkler. My Grandfather was Ernest F. Hinkler. Died 10-2-1959. He and his brother Edward (died 1961) came to the U.S. after w.w.II. Ernest married Sue Pero and had 2 children. My father; George Richard Hinkler and his sister.Ernest gave his last name to Sue's older 3 children do to their fathers death. They lived in Chicago,Ill. till their deaths. Sue died 11-19-1986. I am one of 4 children by George and Carnita Nemesia "Carino" Hinkler. I am the oldest Margaret Sandra "Hinkler" Nall 4-24-1952; Karen Ruth Hinkler(died5-9-1973)14&1/2 years;George Richard Hinkler Jr. 3-15-1961 & Janet Marie "Hinkler" Lipke,Titus 12-29-1963.I have 2 girls Nemesia Ann "Crooks" Theall 12-5-1970 & Tina Yvette "Nall" Bennett 2-28-1973. 5 Grandsons; James B. Fillers 1-28 1989;Johnathin B. Fillers 5-12-1992;Robert Thomas Theall 1-2-2009(mother Nemesia). Dominic N. Nall 4-17-1991 Marcus D. Bennett 12-21-1999(mother Tina). I was told that Bert Hinkler was Ernest & Edward's brother and they had a sister that became a Nun. I was also told that my grandfather was the only one to have children. I have a newspaper picture of Bert and Capt.R.H. McIntosh(who was with him when their plane went missing). This is all I have of Bert.I hope this is a big help to putting more leaves on the Family Tree!!!!!!!Margaret S. "Hinkler" Nall.

Its been a while since your querie appeared on this site but I hope the following helps.

I do volunteer work at the new Hinkler Hall of Aviation in Bundaberg and Katherine has a story board all of her own in there.

She did indeed marry Bert on 21 May 1932 in Connecticut USA. The marriage was, of course, cut short by Berts untimely death in Jan 1933.

As to whether Katherine knew of Berts long time partner, Nancy Jarvis, a number of stories abound. Most agree that Nancy and Katherine knew each other but on what terms is, to the best if my knowledge, unknown.

The information in the magnificent Hinkler Hall of Aviation has been extensively researched and can be accepted as true in every respect.

If you ever have the opportunity it is well worth the visit, put aside at least 2 hours and be amazed and impressed by this great attraction and the man it celebrates.

I am researching Bert Hinkler's ancestry as there is family lore that connects our families. I'm sorry but I cant really understand your post eg father's sister's mother's etc.

thank you.. its been a while since I posted the query about the Ha/olliday and Rome family.
Since making the post I have found a big list of Kirkpatrick Fleming graveyard records.
I'm convinced that our Halliday's are connected to this William Rome and Henrietta ms Holliday but just can't find the paper proof..
Som eof our Halliday ancestors have records at Sark Toll Bar.. think we are also connected to George McQueen who may have been the 'acting minister' at gretna, conducting marriages for a while. Perhaps this is why we can't find some records? ( because they weren't quite legal!!?)

Also William their son who died
11th Novr, 1814, aged 44 years
Also Jane Clark, spouse of John Rome
who died at Hirst 12th, Octr 1831, aged 61
years. And John Rome their son who
died at Hirst, 2d May 1832, aged 67 years.
Also Margaret Rome his duaghter who
died in 1800, aged 3 years & 9 months.

Yes, Harold William Rome (my husband's Dad) was born 7/29/1902 in Gilbert, Il, died 7/1962 in Chgicago. His brother, Irving Andrew, born 3/27/1903 in Gilbert, Il. Not sure yet, what his death date was. We're still trying to figure that out. If you'll send me your e-mail address, I also have an article we got from the Gail Borden library, Elgin, Il on Charles Moulding. It comes from a book of who's who in Kane County from the 1850's. I'll scan it in for you.

Thank You,for the great family info. The names match to what I found on the 1870 Census for Chicago, under Henry Irving. Charles & Mary Anna Moulding were living down the street from them. In the 1880 Census they were in Butler County Iowa. Charles & Mary Anna had moved there in the late 1870's. Will contact you off the list for more info on the family. Isabella Rome is my husband's great Aunt. Isabella Rome (born 3/22/1829 in ANnan, Dumphries, Scotland) was married to William Henry Irving (born 1821 in Scotland). They had 9 children that we know of so far: Mary Anna (born 7/31/1852, died 4/12/1016 In Elburn, Il), Isabella (born 1856), William (born 1857), George (born 1861), James (born 1863), Jenny (born 1864), Grace (born 1866, also my husband's Grandmother), Charles (born 1869) and Margaret (born 1873). We have also discovered that Isabella Rome was cousin to William Henry Irving.

Charles & Mary Ann MOULDING [IRVING]are my Gr.Grandparents. I'm still looking for any info on Mary Ann's parent's. Isabella Rome on her Mother's side & William or Henry Irving on her Father's side. What brother's & sister's did she have? What family was on her Father's side? Did they pass away in Kane Co.? Peter Roome, grandson of Peter Willemse Roome and Hester Van Gelder changed his name to Peter Romer about 1800. He was married to Jane Freeland under the name Roome and then married to Louisa Whitley when his name was Romer and between the wives, he had at least 13 children. His youngest son, William Romer, changed his name to Rome after the Civil War and our family name stayed that way (which made finding these Roomes quite a task!). Perhaps your lost relatives fit into this name-changing family somewhere!

Hi, I am very curious about a Henrietta Rome who married a William Halliday - probably in Gretna/Graitney.
William Halliday - born Gretna, died 12/1/1828 age 44yrs at Pictedstone Rigg, gretna. Henrietta died Lowthertown Dornock also in Dumfrieshire on 7/3/1875.
Henrietta and William had:
Margaret, John, William, Jane, Hellen (although it has Ellen for her marriage to JOhn Latimer 7/10/1848 in Dornock) Nicholas and Jane.
In 1851 census Henrietta's son William was living with his Uncle John Rome 56yrs born Kirkpatrick Fleming, Agnes Rome wife age 53yrs ( maiden surname - Little - on IGI her birth is 23/2/1798 in Gretna to James Little and Agnes Beattie) and children, Agnes age 14yrs born england, John age 19yrs born England and James L Rome age 21yrs -student of Divinity of UF Church.

John Rome's parents ( and hence Henrietta's ) were John Rome a cotton weaver and Jane Rome nee Clark - possibly from england...
ANY help appreciated.

Elizabeth died in England Nov 27 1852. She

Searching for info on Elizabeth Rome, my GGgrandmother. She married Thomas Eltringham, and had 3 sons--William Rome Eltringham (my GGrandfather), Thomas Rome Eltringham, Stephen Rome Eltringham and 1 daughter, Mary Rome Eltringham. All the children had Rome as their middle name. Elizabeth died in England, possibly in county Durham, in Nov 1852. Thomas immagrated to the United States in 1865 and settled in Ashland, Pennsylvania.

Any connection to your Rome?

Just discovered my Simon Oliver in Cumberland married Ruth Room or Rome in Broomfield Cumberland in 1826.

Have since discovered Ruth Room / Rome may have been born Gretna, 1805 to George Rome and Ruth nee Simpson.

Any info gratefully received on this new twig of my family tree!

More to do on this line, but I have a Robert Rome, b. 1800 Scotland, married Anna, or JA Rome, no date yet. his sister I believe, Margaret b. 1804 Scotland, married a MR. Riddle, Robert and Anna had a William b. 1840 Scotland, and possibly one other child. William married Jane C. Cuff in Jackson Michigan and had 4 kids, 2 of which lived to adulthood I think, Eva, b. 1869 in Summit, Jackson MI, Alice b. 1870 died at 14 years, Willie b. 1872 died at 2 mos. and daughter Anna b. 1878. Would like to fill in the holes, need who Eva and Anna married, and their families and who are the
parents of Robert, Margaret might not be his sister, but his sister in law as well also. The girls father William did not leave Michigan, but did the girls? Any help you can offer will be much appreciated and thanks in advance! Althea
