A biography/family history of Miles Romney is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 2. His grandfather, Miles Romeny, was born in Dalton, Lancashire, England, married Miss Gaskell, brought his family to St. George, Utah.

Miles was born 18 Dec 1872, to Thomas and Annie (Wood) Romney, born 1846, Nuavoo, IL & 1836, England, respectively. Thomas died in Seattle, WA, 1915; Annie died in Corvallis, MT, 1907. Children: Miles, Jane (Mrs. P.J. Murray), Creston, WA; Naomi (Mrs. E.L. Popham), Corvallis, MT; Kenneth; Winifred (Mrs. Franklin Pratt), Los Angeles; Thomas, died in NM, age 35.

Miles Romney was educated in the rural schools of Ravalli County, MT. In 1881, he moved with his family to a ranch one mile east of Hamilton, MT. At age 16, he attended Ohio Northern University, Ada, OH, taking a business course. He returned to Corvallis, MT, in 1899 where he was employed on ranches and at mills, until 1895 when he moved to Hamilton, MT, and bought the Western News, acquired substantial ranching interests and was prominent in Montana public affairs. He attained the rank of Captain during WWI.

In 1897, Corvallis, MT, Miles married Miss Bessie Robbins, daughter of Albert E. & Susan E. (Florida) Robbins, Montana ranchers. Romney child: Miles, b. 6 Dec 1900.
