Re: JAMES RONEY/ROONEY

Unfortunately I have nothing on Ben Roney after 1840 when he and his siblings slipped off my radar. I do have his brother James, I think, (he's born in KY before 1810,) living by sister Elizabeth Roney Brewer with his family in the 1850 LaPorte Co. census. Big problem is that there are just too many Ben Brewers around and people have been mixing them up for years. The John Brewer with a wife Elizabeth has to be the son of Ben and Caty Brewer, Washington Co., not the John, brother of Ben who married Elizabeth Roney and lived originally in Clark then LaPorte Co (Henry Brewer's boys). I have the confusion pretty well straigthened out, but it took awhile. Can give you what little I have on Margaret and James, both of whom left very few records and were dead before her father died (1834)according to his will, as well as Margaret's parents Ben and Caty. Also lots on the LaPorte Co. Brewers. My mother is descended from both Brewer brothers. Elizabeth Roney Brewer and Benjamin Brewer (Clark Co. then La Porte Co.) were actually cousins. You can reach me at janvanlysel@gmail.com. Regards, Jan

Hi Jan,

I descend through James and Margaret's son Benjamin...and then through his daughter Nancy (Roney) Waskom(1842-1880).

I'm very interested to know what you may have for Benjamin and his wife Nancy (Holmes). I've lost them between 1842-1850. Check out my posting below to see where I'm at. Some of the info may be beneficial to you as well. I am here in Jackson Co.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSmid=4...;

Mike

Yes my grandfather is a Roney in Southern Alabama and we have some Roney's in Penn. I've been trying to trace who came south after crossing from Ireland . I've traced them back to County Down in Ireland .Seems a John , Charles,Hugh,James,Patrick, Thomas, and william Roney all arived in Philly some time between 1840 and 1870. While Anthony Bernard, Denis, Edward, James,John,Micheal, Patrick, Peter,Thomas, And William Rooney all arived around the same time but with the double "o" variation of the name.

In the first half of the 1800's there were three Roney's in Coshocton county Mary b abt1815,and married John Camp June 30, 1836 John Roney b abt 1816 and married Sarah Dickerson abt 1836 and moved to Richland county Ill in the late 1850s. Finally there was James Roney, born abt 1806 and married Nancy Welling April 23 1829. They moved to Muscatine county Iowa in the late 1860s. I am sure John and Mary were brother and sister and believe thatJameswas also a brother. I believethe came from Chester county PA together in the late 1820s before James' marriage in 1829 in Coshocton county. Any info or help with them will be greatly appreciated.

I have a few pictures of her, one with her husband Tom Medlock. I think she was married 3 times, Tom being her last husband.

I read your post regarding information about a Homer Roney from Dent County, MO. I talked to my grandfather tonite and he asked me look around on the internet for information about Ellen C. Chrisope who married Lewis Roney in MO. He told me that he knew they had 8 children 3 who survived to adulthood. The only one that he knew the name of was a Homer Roney, born in MO, who lived in Oregon circa 1945. He was particulary interested in information about Homer's siblings and descendents. I'm sure that my grandfather has a good deal more information, but that's all I have written down to aid in my search. Your welcome to e-mail me at RussBrooks@aol.com. I'd appreciate and information that you have that I could pass along to my grandfather, and I'm sure that he'd be more than happy to give the information that he has regarding Homer Roney and his ancestors.

Linda

I actually met Howard and Ada...I was married to Ralph Sabin, Jr. I have been researching the Roney's and found George Francis Roney and Nettie Amelia Minor...which would have been the parents of Howard and Mable...and then Francis (Frank) Roney married to Margaret Hamlin. The younger sister Margaret was married to John Vierling and she just passed away this month...I found the parents living in Binghamton, New York in the 1930 census with Margaret...and a daughter named Gertrude...I want to know who Gertrude was...never heard of her before...Hope we can help each other./Jackie

I have Nancy Bohannon in my line that married a Roney--not sure of her husbands name. They have 1 child
Joe Roney and again I do not have his wifes name. They had 5 children
1. Delia Roney married John Henry Williams
2. George Roney
3. Herk Roney
4. Joe Roney Jr.
5. Mary Roney married a Stone

Nancy Bohannon married a second time to a Judge Clayton. I am not sure if they had any children together.

Nancy Bohannon was the 1st child of George Bohannon and Franky Burton (married October 25, 1795 in Woodford County KY) Franky Burton's father was John Burton but I do not have her mothers name. I have information on a Burton line but cannot make a connection to that line with Franky.

I do however have a lot of information on the Bohannon line.

If you send me your email address, I can send you information.
The Roney Family History books shares about James Roney the First who came to Virginia in 1678 and has many of his descendants listed. I think we are from this line but I have to connect our line to James Roney III (Grandson of James Roney Sr. (1). I have not been able to do this yet. Also, there is a line of Roney's who entered the North during the early 1800's.

You would be delighted to read this book. Lots of great info. I have alot of info on my family that I have found that is not in this book also.

Brennan
barpackard at comcast dot net
