Thomas Roney

I found reference about a John Roney having a house on 6th st. in Phil. PA. He acquired the site 25 May 1807. Then on 6 Dec 1848, Thomas Roney acquires the house form the Roney estate. He immediately transferred the property to Mary Roney Daugherty. It remained in the Daugherty family till 1920.
Can onyone tell me who these people are and how they are connected to the Roney Family.

Richard Roney born abt 1806 in Selling Kent, who married Mahala Alderton born 20 June 1806 in Lewes, sussex. (Still looking for marriage date!).

Richard was a tailor living in Fletching, Sussex in 1851.
Mahala Alderton was first cousin once removed to Edith Nesbitt the writer.

In going through some pictures my mother left me, I discovered a very lightly written notation that identified two tykes in a photo as AMY and HARRIET POWERS.

I AM NOT TRYING TO SELL THIS PICTURE! I WILL EMAIL A SCANNED COPY TO INTERESTED PARTIES FOR FREE. (Sorry, it really bugs me when I see posts about about a photo only to find out that I can buy it for *only* $15 or $20. I know it is how some people make a living but it still bugs me!)

Now, then. The picture was taken around 1920 at Pierson Studio, Greenfield, Indiana. I'm guessing at the date because it looks like Harriet still needs Amy's help to sit up. Catherine Amy (b. July 1, 1915) married John RONEY in 1948 and Harriett (b. October 8, 1919) married Paul BRILES in 1946. Other descendant surnames include HUBER, HAVERSTOCK, and WILLARD.

If there is a descendant or relative of these two adorable little girls that would like a copy of this picture, please email me and I'll happily send you a copy.

There were two Roney's in Bucks Co., PA in the early 1700's, one was Hercules Roney and the other was John Roney. They were possibly cousins. Some of Hercules's children moved to Virginia and West Virginia. I, however, am descend from John Roney who stayed in the Bucks/Chester Co. area. Both apparently came from Donegal, Ireland.

I'm looking for any info on the family of John Roney (b. about 1721) and James Roney (b. about 1747). The dates could be off.

All my life I thought my maiden name was unusual. Outside of our family, I didn't know of any other Roneys. Imagine my surprise to find the RONEY FAMILY MESSAGE BOARD!!

I am looking for information regarding Leona Roney. Step-daughter to Richard Roney and daughter to Amusa Dora Carter. Leona was born 22 February 1896 in PA, possibly in or near Perkasie PA. Birth father is unknown, however his surname is believed to be Pittenger or some similar spelling. Leona appears in the 1900 Federal Census recorded 1st and 2nd of June 1900. Look in PA, Philadelphia county, 1st supervisor's district, 400th Enumeration district, 28th ward, and sheet 1B. She was two years old and lived with Richard Roney and Musa (instead of "Amuse" or "Amusa") Roney. Both Richard's and Musa's birth dates do not correspond with their ages in this census.

Nancy Roney, Lewis Roney

In early Alabama marriages, Nancy Roney married thomas Gest in Lawrence County, Alabama on Nov. 7, 1818. In 1828 Thomas is in what later became Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. In 1830 "Nancy Guest" is head of household in Walker County Alabama with a next door neighbor named "Lewis Roney". This is why we think this is the same "Nancy" that married Thomas Gest earlier.

Thomas and Nancy had a daughter "Hariet Guess" who married David Brown in 1841. David and Hariet were some of my great great grandparents.

Descendants of these people moved into Indian Territory and we still live in Oklahoma and we are not enrolled, but grandma looked nearly full blood Indian and we all "look" Indian.

Any info on who Nancy and Lewis were would be appreciated. From 1830 census, Nancy appears to have been born 1790-1800 and Lewis between 1790-1800 also. Lewis has many children. He also has an old lady b. 1750-1760 in the household (perhaps his and Nancy's mother?) Maybe he and Nancy are brother and sister?

Unfortunately 1830 census doesn't give location of birth.

Looking for the cemetery or burial site of Mahala Roney Stalcup Matlock (approx.) b.1840 _ d.after 1920 and is thought to have been buried in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. I have been told that a few of Mahala's children by Wesley Stalcup settled in the Sallisaw area. Mahala's last husband was Tom Matlock. Tom and Mahala had no children that I know of but I have been told there were several of Tom Matlock's relatives the Sallisaw area. Has anybody if their family have a June B Roney, born 22 May 1904 (as Junetta) in California, and died 3 February 1990 in Los Angeles. Her social security # 563019703.

Her Father was William Harry Brimacombe, born 3 March 1874 Brentor, Devon, UK. (Although the California Death Index shows his birth date as 24 February 1874). He died on 7 July 1940 in Los Angeles.
Her Mother's maiden name was Walters.

Hi, I am searching for the parents of Alice Roney Magee b. 1819 in Ireland (probably County Down). She and her 2 sisters, Sarah Roney Courtney Singleton and Mrs. Patrick Fagan came over together from Ireland in 1840s. Alice (Alley) and Sarah married and stayed in Morgan County, Indiana. Their sister (first name unknown) moved to Patch Grove Wisconsin.

Im looking for any connections and updated information of the Roney family from the SUmner Co area of TN and the Robertson Co. TN area. I am looking for the Gilbert connection of the Roney's. I am a Gilbert descendant and need to fill in the gaps.
I visited the are of Sumner Co Tn where Mr Gilbert and wife (Roney) donatde land for a church. Church is still ther but rebuilt. No signs of any old cemeteries or burial mounds. Farmland has been tilled over many times.

Further to the earlier Samuel Roney queries: The 1871 Census of Canada lists a Samuel Roney, age 22, carriagemaker, born in Ontario, temporarily living with my 41-year-old ggrandfather James Roney in Napanee, Ontario. Can anyone identify this Samuel, or provide info on James' brother John, believed to have become a clergyman in U.S.?

I am looking for my ggrandfather William Thomas Roney's
parents/siblings and their descendants. I know little to
nothing about his ancestry. William was born in 1827 in
North Carolina, but conflictong stories indicate he might
have been born in Ireland. One story is told that he came
from Ireland with his mother, sister and a brother. None of
their names are known. William fought in the Revolutionary
War. There was a Patrick Roney who died in the Revolutionary
War but I don't know if he has any connection to my William.
William married Annie Elizabeth Ferguson abt. 1859 in South
Carolina. They had two son's, Thomas Nolan and Willie (might be
William) B., both born in 1860, possibly twins. Thomas died
in 1860 and Willie B. died in 1862. Both are buried near
Bascomville, SC at the Old Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. They later had several other children.
Later William moved to Navarro County, Texas where he is buried at the St. Elmo Cenetery in Winkler.
If any part of this information rings a bell with anyone I
would love to hear from you. I need all the help I can get. My
mother tells the story that Roney use to be spelled with two
"0's but they couldn't afford to carry both "O's" and dropped
one of them somewhere along the line.

Elnora Roney, 96, of Quincy died Sunday in Tallahassee.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Quincy, with burial at St. Mark's Cemetery in Quincy.

A native of Leon County, she had lived in Gadsden County for several years and was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, West Roney and Willie Roney, both of Quincy; two daughters, Aslie Roberts of Monticello and Cora Lee Anthony of Quincy; 37 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great-great-grandchildren.

We believe he was born in Ireland and arrived here in the U.S. with his parents - Alexander Roney and Jane Patterson. We have notes that say that Alexander and Jane moved from NY June 6, 1831. Arthur married Eliza Catherine Brae. They moved from NY to Il in 1864. Eliza Catherine Brae was from Kingston NY. Her father Eli Brae is buried in Jewell, Oswego Co. NY.
I have notes on Arthur and Eliza's children.

I posted a message yesterday about my friend's family, the Roneys of Peebles, in Scotland. We couldn't find any other Roneys in the town and none at all were living here before Alexander and Marion, so I assumed he must have come into the area. Their three children, were born in Peebles, the eldest, Helen, must have died in infancy, as only the two boys appear with their parents in the index of the 1891 census. Today I saw the actual record of that census and discovered that Alexander was born in England - no specific area, just England! Does anyone have Roney ancestry in England as I have no idea which area to start in! His father may still have been Irish, but I need to find the Roneys in whatever part of England they were living before 1833 when Helen Wyper Roney was born. The name Wyper may be a clue? Alexander Roney was born in 1835/6. His wife Marion Johnstone came from Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland. She was born in 1846/7.
I hope someone can give me some help here!

I could have sworn I posted a message here yesterday but it seems to have disappeared! Trying again then to find any Roneys in England, who may have had an Alexander, who settled in the south of Scotland around 1881, married and had a family. The Alexander I am looking for is the great grandfather of a friend, Norma Roney, who lives near Edinburgh. In the census of 1891 he is recorded as having been born in England, no specific area, just England, but until I can see his marriage certificate I cannot begin to know where to look next. He married Marion Johnstone from Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland, in Peebles in 1883. They had three children, Helen Wyper Roney, who I think died in infancy, Alexander junior and John Johnstone Roney. I wonder if the name Wyper might be a clue in this puzzle?
Here's hoping someone can help me to continue the search backwards. It is always possible the family came first from Ireland, and settled in England. Alexander was the only one to come to Peebles in about 1881, where he worked in a woollen mill.

Are there any Irish Roneys who came to Scotland? My friend Norma Roney is having great difficulty going back beyond her great grandfather Alexander Roney who married Marion Johnstone in 1883. They lived in Peebles in the Scottish Borders and the family still live there.
Hope someone can shed some light on whether Alexander came from Ireland and if so, when? Maybe he didn't, but his father did. We want to find out who he might have been. Help! Please!

Alexander and Jane were both born in Ireland. They and their 5 children moved from Ireland to NY on June 6, 1831. Children were Thomas, Catherine, William, Arthur and John. Not sure of order other than Arthur was 4th child. They family came from Milligan, Monaghan Co. Ireland. The name was originally O'Rooney. I am descended from Arthur Roney and have most information on him. Most of the siblings appear to have settled in the Kingston and Roundout , NY area.
