HI, Brian,

My immigrant ancestor from the UK was Thomas Rood, the one who allegedly committed incest with his daughter, Sarah. Thomas married Sarah Leffingwell White. Their descendants populated New London and Windham counties in CT.

Anner Rood (b. 03 Nov 1772, Killingly, CT) daughter of Stephen Rood & Elizabeth Harris, married Joshua Paul of Rutland County, VT. They had 11 children, all of whom were born in Rutland County, VT.

The majority of their children left VT, and moved to Western NY State, mostly to southern Erie County during the first quarter of the 19th century, and are buried in Griffins Mills Cemetery, in Erie County.

Hi, Smanatha,

Brian might not have seen this post so I am taking the liberty of responding instead. It could very easily have been the same George if the locale for your Minuteman was Windham County, Connecticut. Brian's grandfather, George J. Rood was born in 1889.

Elaine

I think I may have answered this before. But, Elisha, Joseph, Sarah, Hepsibah, Joanna, and Rebeckah Bradley had a sister named Rhoda born in Derby (later Oxford) in 1758. She married Ashbel Skinner in Harwinton, CT in 1779. They later lived in Jericho, Vt and children moved on to St.Lawrence Co., NY. There is a Revolutionary War Pension file for Ashbel Skinner.

In going back thru e-mails this year, I found your's regarding Wine Rood. I have collected information on this family and have a good file and would share it with you if you are interested. I published The Rood/Roode/Rude Genealogy in 1999 and continue to add families to the genealogy. I receive inquiries all the time regarding the Rood's and love to help others. I have never tried to link Wine Rood to our family of Rood's as they go back to a Thomas Rood who came to America early 1600's. Will be glad to send if you are interested.
Mona Rood
Hi

You give us very little information about Olaf. This makes it difficult to find the correct person. Do you know more about him?

Here is one possible Olaf.
He was born Feb 12 and baptized Mar 25, 1894 in the parish Fiskum which is where Darbu is. His father was Nils Kristoffersen Røed. Kristoffersen is alos spelled Christoffersen.
According to new naming rules the child would get the name Olaf Kristoffersen Røed. This might have changed in US to Olaf C (Christoffersen) Rood.
Mother is Mina Kaspara
He is no 4:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5866&i...

Here you have him and his family in the 1900 census. (Surname Nilss. after the old naming rules.):
http://www.digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbas...

Does this sound like the person you are looking for?

Vivi
Soon after their return home they were taken violently sick but prompt medical aid brought the out of it in a few hours. They had eaten some roots that were very poisonous.
Hi
From Piteny Church records confirmed by Sarah Hawkins transcriptions:

Wine Rood, batchelor of Pitney, married Anne Andrews, spinster of Pitney. Witness was John Andrews

Also:

Samuel Andrews and wife, Elizabeth Reed came from Pitney nearSomerton, Somersetshire, Old England,on the ship, Albion, to Philadelphia, PA. t hey were on the ship 63 days arriving April 29, 1819. Although there i s someconfusion over it Samueld is given credit for naming Somerton. M r Andrews and family proceded to Marietta where he had two sisters Roo d and Cozzens. From there traveled north,Peter Mann (Malaga Pioneer)me t them and showed them land in southern Belmont Cty.They purchased it for $400. C.J.Smith + GrantHadsell (1919) owned it

I believe Wine Rood is a relative of mine as I am researching the Andrwews from Martock & Pitney but I have a problem linking some of the families to show blood ties.

Do you have any info that I may find of use. If so please contact on:

dave.andrews@ukonline.co.uk
Thanks

Your GrandMother Blanche Cleo was by great aunt. I was 3 and 1/2 years old when my father took me to her funeral in 1954. I remember her laying in repose as if it were today. She looked like my dad's sister and in my mind I was confused as to why his sister was asleep with all these people in the room.

I learned a couple of years ago that Blanche had family in the Columbus area. I am sad to say that I did not know your father.

I know very little about the Rood side of my family. My Grandfather was Roy Rood. I knew his sisters Ruth Patterson ( Point Pleasent WV) and Mary Williams ( Yellowbud Oh ). I never met his brother Fred. My father talked with his aunt Margaret Combs in Springfield, OH. Her son was Chester Combs Jr who I understand was a career army man with the airborne. I believe he was badly wounded in Vietnam and left for dead. I believe he served in WWII and Korea.

I served in the US Navy for 5 years. Dad served in the Navy in WWII and was wounded at Okinawa. My sister was in the Air Force then joined the Army and retired from the reserves. My brother was in the Army reserves. Roy Rood was in the Army National Guard during WWI. James Preston Mourning was in the Union Army and was wounded during the Civil War.

I was raised in Darbydale, Harrisburg and 665 at I71. I have lived in the Columbus area since 1950.

Wally Rood
Jarras

Seeking information on parents of Oliver C. Rood who came to
Waterbury, Vt. about 1750-1770. Father believed to be
Jarras Rood who served in Revolutionary War and died about
1800, probably on "Old Rood Farm" in St. Charles County,
Miaaouri. Later, reinterred to Oak Grove Cemetery, St, Charles where gravestone erected. Jarras built a grist mill
near St. Charles and was a fur trader throughout the area.
All information on family will be greatly appreciated as I
have hit a "stone wall".

page @ wil.midcom.net
