Prince Rooks, 91, of 479 Louise Ave., Mansfield, Ohio; died
Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after an extended illness.
Mr. Rooks was born July 10, 1917 in Jasper County, Georgia and lived in Mansfield for the past 68 years. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, and a member of the Male Chorus. Prince retired from the Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company in 1978 after 45 years of service spending a good deal of his time fishing and riding around with his friend Oliver visiting their friends and grandchildren.
Prince is survived by his wife of 54 years Doris; 4 daughters, Gloria Smith, Carol (Jeff) Payton, Deborah (Frank) Bonham, and Brenda Rooks all of Mansfield, Ohio; 7 grandchildren, Darrell (Shelly) Smith, Donna Smith both of Mansfield, Eric Smith of Cleveland, Justin (Teresa) Rooks of Richmond Hill, Georgia, Erin Payton of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jeffrey Payton of Columbus, Ohio; and Brendan Bonham of Mansfield; 13 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Margie Malone of Monticello, Georgia; 1 foster daughter, Dottie (George) Baker of Nicholasville, Kentucky; 2 adopted daughters, Lovelia Kim Rawls and Pamela (Nathan) Powell; special friend, Oliver Holt, Sr. all of Mansfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Clara Goolsby Rooks, 2 great great grandsons, 1 sister, Frances Rooks, and 4 brothers, Crawford, Eddie, John, and Sammie Rooks.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 18, 2009 at 12:00 noon in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. Clifton Chandler. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
