Jean E. Rooney, 81,
of Murrysville, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008. She was born May 3, 1927, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Leslie and Gladys Potter Irwin. She was a graduate of Pitt University and received her Masters from Indiana University. She taught high school math at Gateway High School for many years, was elected to the Order of Sigma Xi, was active in the Murrysville Women's Club and was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church. Jean will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. She was preceded in death by a husband, Albert C. McMunn, in 1983; and a brother, Harry E. Irwin. Jean is survived by her husband, Edward F. Rooney; four children, Marlyn Donelson, of Butler, Donna Kapner, of Houston, Texas, Robert (Laurie) Longwell, of Mechanicsburg, and Susan (Donald) Elko, of Succasunna, N.J.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Alvin Irwin, of Erie. Visitation will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the HART FUNERAL HOME INC., Murrysville, with a service at 5:30 p.m.

Gertrude Rooney was also my grandmother. My parents divorced when I was two, so I did not get to see alot of my grandparents. Grandmother was called Nana, and grandfather was called Parker. They lived in Malverne Long Island. I believe it was 115 Gates AVe or ST. I do know there were approx. 25 grandchildren. Nana was a registered nurse.
If you have any additional information would appreciate sharing. My father was Vincent Xavier Frawley

George W. Rooney (1894-1992) lived in Pittsburgh, PA. His father, born in Ireland, was Charles A. Rooney (1862-1957).

Please email me at garysullivan7@yahoo.com I too am researching the Rooney line and have handwritten notes from a now deceased distant cousin that mentions your Peter married to a Kate McNalty. Peter was a brother to my 3rd great grandmother and married Michael O'Sullivan in Canada and immigrated to Buchanan County, Iowa, USA.

I am uncertain of the parentage of Peter and my Elizabeth as the notes state Isabella McDermott of Newery, County Down, Ireland married Henry Rooney in Ireland, but the marriage certificate of my Elizabeth and Michael O'Sullivan lists Elizabeth's mother as Julienne Kaley or Kiley.

Hi, Thank you for responding! I have heard that the Garricks may have come from Rosscommon.
This is what I know about my great-grandfather Thomas Garrick: Born January 1836 in Ireland. Died 15 July, Birch Cooley, MN. Married Catherine Rooney in Rochester, Olmsted Cty, MN (no source) First child born 1870-71. Possibley Immigrated 25 Sept 1850 aboard the Perseverance from Dublin, age 16. 1870 Census lists Thomas Garrick as 35-not too far off. Farmed in the Franklin-Birch Cooley, MN area until his death. Catherine died 17 May 1914 in St. Paul where she lived with her son John.

Hi Janet

It's possible Thomas Garrick came from South Roscommon or thereabouts. I've been researching the Irish Garricks for a while. It's quite a rare name in Ireland, and almost all of them seem to come from that area originally.

Do you have any more info on your Thomas? If you could tell me what you have, I'll see if I can track him down in my notes.

I just wanted you to know that your email does not work on your website. I really enjoyed viewing your website and could see how much work you put into it. Your website would have been a pot of gold for me, but it was in the wrong county. My Rooneys are from Leitrim County in the townlands of Fallacarra, Russaun, Kilroosk and Manorhamilton. I saw your query and responded through the Rooney Rootsweb mailing list over a week ago and decided to see if I could find the source of your posting. :-)
I am researching my husband's Rooney line and know they are connected to a Rooney family in the Dubuque, Iowa area.
My husband's great great grandparents James and Margaret (Mulligan)Rooney settled in Benton, Lafayette County, Wisconsin and later in Galena, Jo Daviess County, Illinois.
I also have found another Rooney clan that has connections to Dubuque, Ia and Minnesota. So could there be a connection with all of our Rooney families?

The following family appears in a Family Register that my Grandmother Mary Ellen (Brady) Waudby wrote. She was the daughter of George E. Brady & Maggie Murray. She took notes in 1930 at a Reunion for the Northedge, Clark, Newhouse, Waudby, Stoddard cousins in Jackson, Michigan. Do you recognize any of these folks and if so I would appreciate hearing from you, as I can not determine how they are related to Mary Ellen (Brady) Waudby but I am sure they are.
Elizabeth Murphy, died 1948, married 26 Jan 1919 to Albert Rooney, died 1948 Lived in Jackson, Michigan.

Patrick Rooney born 1855 Ireland

I am after any information on Patrick Rooney born 1855 in County Down Belfast.
He married Ellen Jane born 1858 in County Wicklow, but I am unsure of her maiden name, would anyone be able to help?

Also I do not know Patrick's parents name, can anyone help with that as well?

I know that Patrick and Ellen moved to Workington in cumberland, where my Husband's Grandfather was born (also Patrick born 1894)

If anyone can help, I would be very grateful as I seem to have hit a blank wall with my research.

Its the start of a new year and again I'm asking for help. I have been trying to find out anything about my Father for many years. Here is what I know--His name: John Jerome Rooney, he was christened Michael & went by the nick name of Mickey. I have March 7th 1920 or 1923 as D.O.B. His father was Richard, for his mother I have the name of Margaret but according to the Social Security Adm. she was Hannah Sheehy. I think he had 2 brothers ?Richard & Al. His 1st wife was? Milliken Hospital in Pottsville in 1957. I have been told I had siblings, but nothing else. This may not be her real name.

John Thomas Rooney was born in CT. He spent his life there ((mostly around Bridgeport I think) and died in 1947. He began work as a telegraph lineman and ended up working for the phone company.

Sounds like it. My grandfather (John, born in 1865 or so) had a major falling out with the rest of the family, so I have never known anything about the Rooney side of things. There were also about 6 or so other children. I know there was a Margaret and a Thomas and maybe Jennie in that generation. Sound familiar?

I grew up in Fairfield but moved to upstate NY in junior high. I get back there once or twice a year. The last surviving person in my dad's generation was my Aunt Helen who died in 2002 at the age of 102!!

Does the name Kathy Mameruse (sp?) ring a bell? She was a second cousin or something I think. She'd be in her early 60's now.

I would have had a grand uncle named Patrick married to Catherine McGloin circa 1880. Patrick had six brothers to include John who was a NYC fireman died in 1924. I believe that Patrick remained in Ireland.

My grandfather was Lawrence b. 1865 in Glenade, emigrated to US and died NYC in 1940. A William and Peter McGloin attended that funeral as did a Mr.& Mrs. Peter McGloin, relationship unknown.

I was transcribing the Charles R. Hale Collection, vol. 38, Norwich, Conn. headstone inscriptions and came across this listing in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery: Rooney, William, died May 20, 1921. No other info is given. I am not related and have no further information to share. Happy hunting!

I am interested in any information regarding the ancestors or descendants of John Rooney (born about 1846 in Ireland) and Katherine McGloin (born about 1850 in Ireland) who lived in County Leitrim in a town known as Shesknan (which is just north of Glenade off route 280). Conwal Cemetery is nearby and is where some of our relatives are buried.

I have information on some of the branches of this family, but I believe there are still a number of people missing.

Hi Kevin, my great grandfather was John Rooney, born in Ireland in 1848 - I don't know where - he died in Newark, Nov 13, 1917; his son was Leo, and James would have been your father? All these folks have NJ connections.

my grandfather was matthew rooney born 1891 married to annie crawley in glasgow scotland. My father told me names of the aunts and uncles but it wasn't as long as that listed. [I may have read it wrong] He did mention an uncle called Norman and he said he had heard he had died in a subway accident in New York.

My Great Grandmother was Catherine Rooney. She was born in Bridgeport, CT about 1876 (give or take). Her Father was Frank Rooney and her mother was Bridget McHugh. She had an older brother John Rooney who I believe was your Grandfather. I would love to hear from you if this is the same family line.

My paternal great grandmother was Catherine Rooney,b 1841, married to Thomas Garrick b 1836. Both were born in Ireland. They were married in Rochester, MN about 1868 and farmed near Adams, Minnesota. They had 8 children. Catherine had a brother, Thomas, b 09/05/1827 and married in Illinois to Mary Patton. (This info is from his obit - can't find records) They had 2 children and I think they also took 2 children from the Orphan Trains. There was another brother, Charles but I don't have much info on him. Interestingly, there is a SARA Rooney listed as living with them on the 1870 MN Census. Possibly Catherine's mother. Does anyone out there know this family? They came from ? in Ireland - probably to New York, then to Minnesota. Catherine was born about 1840. She married Thomas Garrick In Minnesota about 1868. On the 1870 census, there was an Anna Rooney listed with them - she was old enough to have been Catherine's mother. (?) Thomas was born in Ireland in 1827 and seems to have moved around a bit. He went from NY to Debuque, Iowa and then to Springfield, Ill where he married Mary Patton. They moved to Minn. and had two children (John & Mary) and another two lived with them that may have been Orphan Train children. (Frank & Mary)

Do you know anything about his brother Patrick. I have Rooneys in Liverpool and the name Hugh pops up in my branch. My Rooneys worked as stonemason in Liverpool in the 1840's. My Patrick Rooney married Julia McGowan. They immigrated to Liverpool in the late 1830's.
