Roscoe Family Pendleton near Salford

I am trying to identify the family of William Robert Roscoe, a coal miner, living in William Street, Pendleton in 1895.

I think that he may be the William Roscoe, born about 1959, and son of George Roscoe born about 1836 and living at 194 Whit Lane, Pendleton at the time of the 1881 census. George was a widow in 1881, but in the 1871 census, the family may be listed under the name of Boscoe (sic). His wife in 1871 is called Loyce (may be spelling error), and there are also sons Abramo and Leish. Someone has suggested that this may be a family of Jewish origin, but I am not sure.

Any information would be appreciated. There appear to be a number of Roscoe families in the area, all with similar names.

I am researching the young men in our village of Eastham, Wirral, UK who died in WW1 and one of them was James Roscoe. He was a pilot and died in an accident on August 6th 1918 and is buried in the churchyard here.
Does anyone have any information about James and his family that they would be willing to share with me?
From what I have managed to trace so far, James was the son of Charles and Mary Roscoe from Kirby Liverpool who appear to have emigrated to Canada with their family in 1911.
Any more information would be appreciated to help add a little bit more to the stories of the young men from the village.

there son was frederick william roscoe born 1881 in england my guess lancenshire married in 1920 to winfred isabel rose groome in england if there is any way to find them i would appricate it with no birth dates but there sons i dont even know if there was any name change heard that they died and a guardian took over for there son and his brother and sister
which was also named willie george or albert no date and lillian shiped to canada as young child any help would be realy appricated thank you.

Yes, we are indeed descended from the same Roscoes, though I'm actually descended from Elizabeth, who was the eldest daughter of William Roscoe (born 1787) and Ellen Johnson. William is the elder brother of your Joseph Roscoe. I've traced most of the Roscoes of Taddington, but gave up with Joseph who I think married in Tideswell and then must have moved out of the area. I've loads of information on the Roscoes who stayed (and who married Birches - Enoch and Joshua). Most of their gravestones are in Taddington churchyard, and I have a couple of wills and a tithe map showing the farm where they lived in Priestcliffe. I'll be happy to share what I know. My name is Phil Roscoe and I believe I am descended from the Taddington Roscoe’s. I have researched material from Parish Registers and traced my lineage as follows – me, my father Derwent Roscoe (1927), his father Victor Roscoe (1893), his father Edward (1854), his father Joseph (1830), his father Joseph (1795), and I think his father Thomas. If I am correct Thomas had at least three other children, William (1787), Thomas (1789), and Ann (1791). I think you would be descended from Thomas (1789) by way of his daughter Ann (1818) or her aunt Ann (1791) whom I have recently been told were both married to Enoch Birch.

Anyway, I’d be very grateful to find out any contradictory or additional information you may have.

This is very interesting and exciting to find you, you may be able to answer some questions for me about my grandad Jack Roscoe.

I started my family tree with the family bible. This bible was started by Peter 16-07-1819 and Betty 19-05-1821 Roscoe. This Peter is your gr gr grandfather, he was my gr gr gr grandfather. John 1855 was my gr gr grandfather. Your grandmother Ruth stevens 1879 was i think my grandads mother, but i'm not sure on this because it was just guess work as to which brother was my grandads dad. maybe you could help me on this. If i am right in my research that would make my grandad your uncle, and your mums brother, i know he had a brother Peter. My grandad was Jack Roscoe. He married Alice Ridley and they lived for years in Iron street Denton, they had one son John.
I have a lot of information on the roscoe's back as far as 1727.
It would be great if you could confirm who Jack Roscoes parents were for me. I have all the birthdays for Peter Roscoe's children, marriage dates and deaths, which were recorded in the bible, which now belongs to my brother.

I am related to the same Roscoe family my gr.gr.grandfather was Peter Roscoe born in Kearsley Salford in 1819 Alice born 1843 was his daughter his son john born 1855 was my gr. grandfather. I have lots of information on the Roscoe family would love to share, also photographs. would like to know who you are decended from. Hi, not sure if I fit in anywhere, but my grandmother on my fathers side was Sylvia Ann Roscoe, B. 1899 in Bay City, D 1980 in Flint. Her parents were Frederick Roscoe, B 1874?, who came from Canada, met, and married Anna Gust, B 1875?, in Bay City. This information fit into any of your family?

i am looking for any information on the parents of Ethel J Roscoe who also had brothers Fred, Charles and Harvey and a sister named Fannie (Fanny) White.

they grew up in upstate New York and Ethel was my great grandmother married to my great grandfather William A. Farnan.

she was born in 1886 in Monroe County New York (Rochester area), relocated to Reno, Nevada with her three children (Ambrose, William J and Frederick) sometime around or near 1920 after presumably her husband William A. Farnan whom had passed away in 1914 in New York.

she passed away in 1936 in Fresno, California.

that is all the information i have on her but i am trying to go back further and cannot find anything on her mother or father.

any help would be appreciated.

Wills Point is about 40 miles east of Dallas on US Hwy 80 in Van Zandt County. Callie Lynch and PD Rasco were my great grandparents. Are you related to them?

To Chris Catell (again): There is an old family story that a wmoan married into the family, did not like the last name and legally (?) changed it to Roscoe. Further, there is no known profession for Clifton. All of the men I've been able to hear about were with railroads.

You forgot to mention that in the 1881 census Mary and Thomas had a few more children.John a son was abt 12 yrs This age could suggest that my last reply would be about correct for the marriage Have you asked the GRO (http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
on line forms are available I think the cost is about 7pounds per certificate) in Southport England for the marriage certificate of Mary Chadwick and Thomas Roscoe going back from the oldest child in the 1881 census they will do a 3 year search if you ask them, when ordering the Marriage cert. In it you will know who the Fathers are and where the actual marriage took place. a Good Start also ask for the Birth cert of Elizabeth Roscoe at the very least you will have the actual place of Birth as well.

Thanks Ray for your message. From what I can demise from the 1881 census is That Thomas was b.ca 1840 and that his wife Mary was b.ca 1844. Census says they were both b. in Blackburn. My Great Grandmother Elizabeth was b.in Dec 1878.

Seeking info on the family of Thomas and Mary (Chadwick)Roscoe of Blackburn, Lancashire, England. On the 1881 census they were living at 80 Lambeth St. Whats on the census is all I know of the family. Their daughter Elizabeth was my Great Grandmother. Any and all help on this family would be greatly appreciated. Would like to know more about them. Elizabeth eventually came to Rochester, NY got married and had a family.

My Great grandfathers name was John Stanley Roscoe he married Elizabeth Williams. My grandfather was named after his Great grandfather Thomas which is my middle name.

This is all that i have on the Roscoes .Elizabeth Roscoe b 1853 Cheshire m George Marshall (Wirral )1871. Father John Stanley Roscoe m Elizabeth Williams abt 1839.
They had six children. Elizabeth had two sons William george Marshall b Birkenhead 1872 d 1914 war m Sarah Burns 1894. Thomas Taylor Marshall (my grandfather) b Birkenhead 1876 d Dunedin 1951 m Florence Tripp b1890 N.Z
Elizabeth married Alexander Russell 1886 at Liverpool had a son Alexander.
