Update: Josephine Urek and husband "Roslund"

Josephine and Ferdinand "Fred" Roslund were married ca. 1913 and by the 1920 census had moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. They, and their children Frances (born ~1915 in Nebraska) and Ferdinand, Jr. (born ~1924 in Iowa) appear in the 1930 census. Ferdinand Jr. appears to have passed away in 1996 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Fred Sr. was born in Sweden and Josephine was born in today's Slovenia.

Harry Roslund New

I am looking for an ancestor my grandfather’s brother Harry Roslund born 11 June 1903 in Sweden. He left Sweden at 17 and sailed on several boats in Europe before left for US. He came to through Ellis Island and settled in Mobil AL. as a sailor.

I have tried to find out what ships he was on. I also got a social security paper that I ordered from US. That is how I now he lived in Mobil AL. and worked for the Waterman SS Corporation. I think he served on a merchant ship during WW2. That is where the trail stops.
He passed away June 1976 in New Orleans and lived around Louisiana Superdrome that is where he picked up his pension.
I believe he worked for Waterman the whole time because the Waterman SS Co. is located in that same area.
It is a long shot, I know but when you live in Sweden it is hard to find clues.
I don’t now anything after 1950. Any lead is of interest.

Where do I turn and who do I ask?

These are the different names he uses:
Tage Harry Roslund
Harry C Roslund
Harry Tage Roslund

Can any body please help me?
Best regards
Per Roslund
what an interesting history !! You are doing well in your research I see. I am not doing too well. I just got the copy of my grandfathers passenger papers, thanks to a nice girl in denmark, so I am happy about that. I am having trouble finding out how to get birth certificate information from Helsingborg. I know my G. Fathers birthday, and parents names, but I was trying to find out where they were from and trace back from him. Something about knowing the parish ??
Too bad we arent related !!
I hope the Social Security can give you more information. Good luck
Gloria in N. Y.

Hi Gloria

We have a sort of the same story.
Bengta Phersdotter gave birth to a son named Nils Emil Jönsson he was born out of marrige and she was a maid at a large estate in Skåne that belonged to Roslund. She told Nils Emil that he was the son of one of the Roslunds. She leaft him at the age of 13 to go to the US. He moved up to Falköping in the middle of Sweden. Chaged his name to what he thougt to be his Fathers name and it probebly was.
All of this happend in the later half of the 1800.
I live in Falköping
Best regards
Per
Hi Per,
You would have to get an SS-5 application from Rootsweb by clicking on that box opposite his name. It is supposed to give the entire birth history, and his mothers maiden name. The cost is 27.00 for a photocopy of the original document,as you have the SS #. I think you can have just a printout for something like 16.00. You can get all the information about the SS at
www.Rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson10.htm
That information is way down at the bottom of the site
It is a very good site to read.
Good luck to you. You certainly have a good start. What part of Sw. did Tage come from ? Mine came from Skane . There was a large estate there belonging to Roslund......I heard from a lady from there, but.....no relation to me , as it appears grandpa picked out the name < Haha >

Hej......you will find the information at " Rootsweb.com." Go to " Social Security death index interactive search ". There you will find the information verified that you gave......plus, you can send to them and for a small fee you will be able to get additional information about him. I dont think we are any relation, altho my fathers name also was Harry, but if you come across a Phersson in the line......could be. Good luck in your search
