Rosamond Surname Y-DNA Project

The Rosamond Surname Y-DNA Project is active online at Family Tree DNA. The project is intended to try to genetically link the various Rosamond families who through the years have begun using alternate spellings, as well as tie together those lines of Rosamonds living in various parts of the US and the world. In particular, this will determine which branches of the Rosamond families are descended from the legendary Sergeant Rosemond of Ireland, which from Jacob Rosenmann, and which from other areas.

If you are a Rosamond male (or have a surname with any variation thereof), or have any male friends or relatives with the surname Rosamond, please encourage them to join the project.

In order to join go to the following website:

http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_sum.aspx?let=R&proj...

From here type in the name Rosamond in the search box and click on the Project Search button. (The project hasn’t yet been added to the list of R surnames.)

When the search results come up, click on the name Rosamond which will be highlighted in blue as a link.

This takes you to the page where you can enter your personal information and order a test kit. Click on the drop-down arrow at the end of the “Type of Test” line in order to see the options for the various kits that can be ordered. The only one required to join the project is the Y-12 marker kit for $99. Ordering your kit automatically puts you in as a member of the project.

Possible alternative spellings are:
Rosamond, Rosemond, Rosemon, Roseman, Rosemund, etc.

A website will be developed for project members and I will advise as soon as that is online.

Thanks to all.

Jimmy D. Rosamond
Powell, TN
Most probably the name is Coenrad and that is Dutch. There are quite a few Rosmans here in the Netherlands. My connection comes from Finland and I have made up a tree, see http://www.xs4all.nl/~humaan/rosman/
We have made some progress, however, we need some help. Three brothers, left Cornwall, England in the 1850's. One brother to Canada, one brother to Australia, we have located their descendants. The third brother, Edward, went to the United States. So far, we have not had any luck in finding any of his descendants.
Any help will be appreciated

Coonrod Rosman arrival in Canada

Sorry I don't have information about where Coonrod came from when he arrived in Canada. It has been suggested to me his first name might be Conrad or Conrod. Since my basic message I have discovered Rachel Rosman nee Jones was born in VT. Her children were born in New York. Kessie Frost states on one census she was born in NY. Census and other documents sometimes spell the family name Rossman. If you believe there is some connection between our families please contact me.

Do you know if George came from Cornwall, England?
If he did there might be a connection. Our Rosman's, Edgar, Edwin and Edward came from Cornwall - 2 of the brothers went different ways... one to the U.S. the other to New Zealand or Australia.
