I am looking for information about my gg-grandparents, William and Martha A. Ross. William was born Oct 10, 1825 in KY s/o Wilson Tellison Ross and Arena "Anna" Kidd. His middle name may have been "Thomas," according to my father, who also told me that he was called "Doc" because he was renowned for his ability to treat sick and wounded animals. I believe that he was a private in Co. D (Capt W.H. Bell's Company), 11th Kentucky Cavalry (Union) -- his service in the War at any rate was confirmed by my grandmother Mary Evelyn Ross many years ago (she was shocked when I asked her whether he had been in the War, and said, "Why, child, he'd turn over in his grave right now if he thought you didn't know about that. He fought for the Grand Old Army of the Republic of course.")
Nothing is known of his wife, Martha A., not even her maiden name, or the date and place of their marriage. Their children, in order of birth, were: my g-grandfather, James Ross md Martha Ann Colvin; Mary Ann Ross; George W. Ross md Lucy Katherine Smith; Reuben Ross; Lydia "Lidie" Ross md Isaac Hill; and Serena (or Arena) Ross md George Montgomery.
Any help on this couple would be greatly appreciated -- they're my primary brick wall at present.
