Lois V. Adkins, b. 1919 Nebraska m. Merrill M. Rossen, b. 10/30/1915. Lois's mother was Margaret M. (Maggie) Thacker, b. July 1883 m. Melvin Gordon Adkins in Lawrence County, OH. In the Thacker heritage, Lois's gggrandfather and ggggrandfather both married Cherokee women, names unknown. Reuben Thacker, b. Oct 5 1764 and his father William Thacker, b 1690. Anyone else provide more recent lineage of Cherokee in Lois's bloodline?
Shawn, the Maynard that posted is your uncle and Shayne and you are probably cousins, as am I. You and I talked about three years ago. My father was Randall Rossen, one of Ronnie's brothers.

Would this Mary "Polly" Ulan Rosson have had a daughter named "Lois" and could "Polly"'s name have been "Rossen" instead of "Rosson"?
I just started this research, have always wanted to just never have made time. My grandfather was Merrill, I am the son of late Ronald "Ronnie" Ray Rossen, one of Merrill's sons. I do know that another of Merrill's sons, Maynard, lives in Stonewall,OK where Merrill's last residence was. Grandma Lois passed away in CO, and I didn't know she was half Cherokee, but had been told that there was some Cherokee blood in me, just didn't know how much. Are you a "Rossen"?

Sorry to barge in, but I think you (Maynard) might be my uncle. Do you have a brother named Mel Rossen? I'm interested in learning more about my family history because although I know who my father is, he does not acknowledge me and as a result, one side of my lineage has been lost to me.

Shayne

Sarah is my great great great grandmother. Sarah married Leander Banister and their daughter Emma is my great great grandmother. Sarah and her husband stayed in Indiana and did not migrate to Kansas like the rest of the family. Martin's parents were Daniel and Sarah. Martin had two brothers and a sister that I know about. They are Alexander, Ephriam and Mary Ann. I have not been able to find any information on Lovina's side of the family. I have recently been researching Sarah and Louisa's brother and sisters. I have been able to find all of them to some degree. Lucinda "Cinda" is buried at Geary Cemetery in Oklahoma. Lee was last accounted for in Woodson County, KS in 1920. I can't seem to track him very well. Amanda, I can't find after 1875.

I am searching for information on Eliza Rosson born in 1830 and died in 1901 she married Green Hill Norman. Eliza is listed as daughter of Henry Rosson. John Norman a brother to Green married Mary Ulan Rosson, no relationship is listed for these 2 Rosson's to be sisters, but I would guess they are. Green and Eliza lived in at least the last part of their lives in Big Flat AR located in Baxter County and are buried there. They had at least 11 children.
I would appreciate any information or suggestions and I am willing to share my information with anyone that needs it.
Pam Massey

Clay's father was Marcus D. CALL. At the time of the 1870 U.S. Federal Census, Marcus was married to Emily F. The 1860 Census shows her as the wife of Presley M. HUTCHENSON. Emily was not Clay's mother and I have been unable to locate Marcus CALL on the 1860 Census. I've posted the censuses between 1870 and 1910 that show Clay living in Madison County, Virginia on the CALL Board.

I have not been successful locating Adlee as a child on any Census. The 1900 census shows that Adlee was born in March of 1870 in Virginia and that her parents were born in Virginia as well. If her maiden name was ROSSON, she may have been from Culpeper County, the county from which Madison County was formed and to which many Southern ROSSONs can trace their ancestry.

ROSSEN transcription errors

When looking at records for this family, you should also bear in mind the POSSIBILITY that the surname MIGHT have been mistranscribed. This was a particular problem with sometimes illiterate settlers at the frontier. Often, these had to rely upon others to write their names on documents and this was NOT always corrdctly done, particularly when a new family name was introduced into a frontier area.

I have found a number of instances where ROPER and ROSSER are confused and a few instances where it appears that a ROPER may have been represented to be a ROSSEN.

In old style script "ss" very often looks very similar to a "p". There WERE a number of ROPERs in Virginia, including more than a few in RICHMOND. And I know of several instances of intermarriages between ROPERs and MARSHALLs during the interval you mention, though none of these names.

I would ancourage you to also check ROPER and ROSSER records for further evidence of this marriage.
