Walters father was born on may 15 1885 in Brownsville, Houston County, MN. Elizabeth Lazard was reportedly born in WI. in 1892. I don't know who her parents were. John's father was Mathias S Roster, b nov 15 1852, somewhere in Luxemburg. He died may 19, 1900, Brownsville, MN. John's mother was Nancy Schaller, born may 20 1845, germany area. Mathias and Nancy's parents were Katherine and Nicolas Roster, and George and Eva Marie Schaller. They were all born in the same place as their children but emmigrated in the mid 1850's to MN. Hope this helps

You are definately a cousin then. I am the granddaughter of Joe Roster, who was the brother of Pete, John and Connie. I spoke to Aunt Vi a few weeks ago and she is going to try to help me put together any of the Roster family tree that they can remember. I'll be back in ND for Thanksgiving. Thank you for answering. Keep in touch! My e-mail address is ar7270@earthlink.com.

Thank you for replying. Also thank you for the memory of my grandfather. I know I miss him dearly. I sent Aunt Vi a whole bunch of forms to pass around to any family members that might have any information on the Roster family. I have close to none. My mother doesn't remember too much, except the names of her grandparents. She really doesn't have any dates. I have been able to find some land records, but that only tells me that the Rosters were "in country" in 1912. I appreciate the lead. I'll try my best to follow up on it. Thanks again!

You are welcome. Try Roselyn Winesman. She really does have a lot of history on the family. I will also try to find out some information regarding a cousin of my grandmother. She married a Mormon and from what she told me, they have to do a complete family tree. I have no idea where these records are kept but they should have everyone she was related to at the time. I am not sure how to find this database, but if you do, my grandmother's maiden name was Vivian Babcock. Good luck!

I am another grandaughter of Pete and Vivian Roster. My first cousin Jennifer wrote to you in October. I remember meeting your grandfather on a trip to Mott as a child. He was lots of fun and had kind eyes. He gave us all kinds of "treasures" to play with to keep us entertained. Unfortunately, because we lived in Ohio, we didn't get to see much of our family out in North Dakota. I do have some general information about the Rosters, but you probably have what I know already. A good source of information is my mother's sister Roselyn Winesman (Roster). She visits John and Connie fairly frequently.

My father Walter Roster, born in Wisconsin-1923, does not recall details about his father and I am trying to trace my ancestry on his side. He believes his mother, Elisabeth Lessard was French-Canadian but he doesn't know if that is where they were married.
Rosters in Minnesota

I only had a chance to read your latest two messages, but I thought I could respond to this one: My father Walter George Roster, son of John Nickolas Roster and Elisabeth Lessard, has told me his father and other family members were from Minnesota. He was born in Dallas,Wisconsin and myself in Flint, Michigan. I also know that many of my Roster relatives now live in Canada. My father's birth certificate did not even include his parents dates of birth and he does not remember. I've been able to trace a bit of Lessard history, but very little of the Roster lineage. On many of the records I've found the name Roster was used interchangeably with Rossiter. Notes on searching for German ancestry (my father says JN Roster was from Germany) say that legal records of John Nickolas Roster would all be found under Nickolas Roster as the Christian name of John is discarded after the person is baptised. Anyone having further information or wanting to share what I know is very welcome to write-POBOX 140,Fort Defiance,AZ 86504 or email me at teribegay@iname.com Thanks!
