I hope you are still looking for information. I am the Great Grandson of RZ Roten and Sally Jane Roten. My mother Katie Lue Roten was the daughter of Robert Dee Roten, son of RZ Roten and Sally Jane. I have been looking for their grave site for a long time. I have a picture of Gr. Grandma Sally with her daughters Willie and Nellie and her granddaughter my mother Katie Lue Roten (McDole).

I am also related to the Wilbar/Colvard line through my great grandmother, Sarah Truelock Wilbar who married Joseph Farrow Ray. Sarah's mother Rachel Ann Colvard's mother was also connected to the Ray Family Line as her mother was Jane Jennie Ray, daughter of Col Jesse Ray who was a veteran of the Rev. War. I don't have any information for descendants past Isaac Russell Wilbar's parents John Octavius Wilbar (B. 1793) and Sarah Perry (B. Abt. 1792). Do you have anyone beyond Isaac & Sarah. I would love to share information with you! The second wife of Henry Roten was Mary Ann (Polly) Dunaway Ferguson, the widow of Henderson Ferguson. I am a descendent of Henderson and Mary Ann Dunaway and have quite a bit of information about her children with Henry, and his children from his first marriage, also! Henry and Mary Ann had several children and there was a William. Also, Henderson and Mary Ann Ferguson had a son, Henderson Ferguson, Jr, who had a daughter who married a Crum. I see you have Crum's in your line, also. Does this sound familiar? I hope so! Please let me know! I would love to share information!

Thomas Milton ROTEN/RAWDON/ROTTON and Mary Ellen HENSON married Nov. 6, 1878 in Johnson Co., Tx.

Thomas Milton ROTEN/RAWDON/ROTTON was born in S. C. on Dec. 3, 1855 and died on Dec. 22, 1925 in Dallas, Tx.. He was living in Alvarado, Johnson Co. Tx. in 1878 and in Dallas, Tx. in 1900, 1910 and 1920.
Mary Ellen HENSON was born in Ar. about 1864.

I would appreciate any information on this family.

POW/MIA Korean War, ROTEN

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Wood County, West VIrginia as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: TEDDY EUGENE ROTEN
Born: December 7, 1929, Caucasian
Date of loss: July 29, 1950, MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Roten family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

I can only take the rotens back to them I have no other information....I cant even locate uncles and aunts....But will give you anything that may help you and Danny if I have something you dont have I am mainly going from a copy of the memorial obituary in the Winston Salem Journal the day after my father Clifton died. If you can shed any light on my family I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks! I know that there was a Keys family in Eastern TN- I believe Johnson Co- since they are in another family line of mine- Hawkins/Miller from Johnson Co TN and Ashe Co NC. I don't kow if Venie ties in with them, but it's another clue. Esp. since searching for Churchs wasn't going anywhere.

I know nothing about Barbara except her name. I suspect she might be from the Raughton/Roten family of Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware, some of whom did settle in Pennsylvania. I'd appreciate any information.

Sorry to take so long to get back to this. The Wingler book was given to my husband by his uncle Bobby Tex. It was written and compiled by Capt. Ray E. Wingler in 1972, that is al I can find in the book, no company or where it came from etc. Lunda Peyton's father was James "Jim" Wingler b. 8/30/1876 d.6/23/1969 married to Naomie Burgess b. 8/1/1880 d. 12/23/1962 He died in Fanrock VA, he did much of the work of keeping up the Wingler Cemetary at Popular Cove, Wilkes Co. N.C. Naomie is the dau of Hannah (Black) Burgess and George Burgess. James father was William Peyton Wingler b. 1/8/1836 d. 10/4/1909. married 4 times and his 4th wife was Hannah Black that later married Burgess whos daughter with Burgess later married James. Figure that one out LOL. Williams 1st wife was Millie Roten, 2nd was Cindy Roten, 3rd wife was Nancy Marsh. William was in the Civil War. Williams father was Francis Wingler d. 1876 married Temperance Dancy b.1806, married 10/23/1832, it is said he froze to death and owned 75 acres N. Fork Reddies River. Linda Peyton Wingler was said to have lost his right eye when caught in a mud-slide in July 1916 in NC. Hope this info helps. email me for any more info, just put wingler info in subject line.

Thank you! I'm guessing you are probably the same Ruth who replied to my similar query on the Wingler board.

I don't have a great deal of contact with the Wingler side of the family, so I've been mostly getting info from here. Thanks for the information. This is definitly my great grandparents, Eva (Roten) and Lunda Wingler. Is the Wingler book something that is available to be gotten, or (like most family books) is it out of print? I would like to find out more about this side of the family. My grandfather is James Alton. He married Wilma Jean Lawson of Bristol (though I can never remember if she was born on the TN or VA side), and had my father, Douglas Dwayne Wingler.

Yes Eva Roten b. 2/25/1913 d. 3/13/1997dau of John Roten and Vinie Church was married to Lunda Peyton Wingler b.2/17/1911 d.10/28/1998 They had 5 children.
Harlie "Paul" b.5/15/1930 d. 2/1993,
James Alton b.3/6/1932,
Letha Arbutus "Letha" b.3/16/1934 (my mother-in-law) lives in Alabama,
Venie Lousie b. 1/3/1936 lives in TN,
Bobby Tex b. 4/17/1939 lives in TN.
Evas father John I have as being the son of David Roten and Betsy Miller. There is a Wingler book with alot of information.

I do not have any info on Arvina Wingler. Someone emailed me about a year ago asking about her . Her name is not among the Wingler's I have in my notebook. Of course, I don't have the names of all the various Wingler families in NC. It is such an unusual name that it looks like I would have come across it somewhere in my searches, but I haven't. Unfortunately I don't have any information on Arvina. Do you know who her parents were? William Reeves was born March 1884 to Susan W. Reeves and Fredrick Crowder (They never married) he died in Wyoming county, WV on February 19, 1917 in a Coal mine accident. Susan W. his mother was the daughter of Hyram Reeves and Rachel Handy of Union Twnshp Reddies River, Wilkes Co, NC.

I would be happy to add your info on William Reeves to my Wingler notes. Does your info have Arvina's birth date? I am not a descendant of William and Arvina. My mother-in-law is a Wingler descendant through her mother's mother, Lidda or Lidia A. Wingler. Lidda was a daughter of William Henry Wingler. I'm just working on her extended Wingler family tree for my two children.

I have an Eva Roten born February 25, 1913 in Wilkes Co, NC. This information came from her delayed birth certificate. The parents listed are John Roten and Venie Church. I also show in my database that Eva had a brother Tam Roten (b. 1916) and a sister Ola Roten (b. 1917).

my maternal grandfather believes that my paternal great grandmother's maiden name was Roten. What I know is that her name was Eva, she was born in NC on Feb 25 1913, married Lunda Wingler of NC and died in MD in 1997. Does anyone with any NC Roten connections know if an Eva Roten married into the Wingler family? Thanks for the help.

Edna May Roten, Age 82. Passed away peacefully in her sleep early on December 26, 2003 at Northeast Heights Medical Center. She was born in Peach Springs, Arizona on November 22, 1922. Mrs. Roten taught for 30 years at Amphitheater, and Canyon Del Oro high schools in Tucson, Arizona, serving for a time as President of the Arizona Humanities Association. After retiring in 1987, she traveled to India. She moved to Albuquerque from Tucson in 1996 under the care of her son, Michael. Her life was filled with art, music, literature and poetry. She often said "Courage in the face of adversity." with a knowing smile. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Charles David Roten, who resides in Washington State, and Michael Thomas Roten of Albuquerque. She has one grandson, David. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Stafford also in Washington State. She will NEVER be forgotten. Her light touched many minds and many lives. And there is so much more.

Jesse, b. abt 1846, McNairy Co., TN, was the son of Henry W. Roten, b. abt 1811, SC d. bef. 1880, McNairy Co., TN.

Sallie, b. July 13, 1854, MS, was the daughter of Joshua Muse & Mary Chaddick Seale.

Both are buried in Texas. Jesse died bet. 1893-1900. Sallie died 1938 in Venus, Johnson Co., TX and is buried in Midlothian, Ellis Co., Texas.

Their children were:
William H.
Molly Lee (m Robert Ganaway)
Mary L., James Ira
Jesse Eugene (m Elizabeth Ann Forbes)
Minnie E.
All born in Texas.
