I'm just wondering if there's a contection to a Wallace Roussain?
And if so how are these people connected?

Florence Mary James passed away peacefully at the Plummer Memorial Hospital Nursing Home on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the age of 83. Beloved wife of over 50 years to Harvey James. Loving mother of Sandra, Debbie, Steven, Barb Robineau (Ken), Richard, Danny (Carol), Brenda Simon and predeceased by Mary Jane and Roger. Proud grandmother of Amanda, Mary, Tania, Daniel, Todd, William, Rebecca, Eva, Shelby and Sheri. Great grandmother of 2. Dear sister of Norman (Joyce), Jack (late Elaine), Georgina (Ed), Glory, Joy (Tony), Fred (late Evelyn), Ken (June), Iris, Nancy (Jim), Marvyn and predeceased by Wallace Roussain, Charlie and Gordon Rathbone. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14 from 7-9pm. Funeral service in the chapel on Friday, March 15 at 11 am. Rev. Paul Conway officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Nancy Roussain is indeed the daughter of Eustache Roussain and you are also corret about him marrying 2 young women at the same time. BUT there was also a third one.
All three were sisters. They were married August 5th 1826.
Please don't ask me to try to remember their native names but I do have them recorded some place. They go something like this, Payaubanoquo, Sausasnabanoquo, and Wauwasnabanquo. That's pretty close. I reseached the Roussain family for almost 8 years but I had to quick 2 years ago. It started to take over my life.

Your gr. gr. grandmother, Nancy Roussain Crebassa, is also my gr. gr. grandmother. My gr. grandmother is Mary, Nancy and Peter's eldest daughter. I know that her father is Eustache/Augustus, but I could never find who her mother was. I wonder if it was, indeed, Margaret Cotte. Nancy was Ojibwe, and I strongly suspect the Eustache was a French fur trader. I found him listed in a directory of the Sault Ste Marie tribe as being married to at least two Ojibwe women (not at the same time, I hope!) I would love to correspond with you and compare notes. I have some limited information and perhaps we could combine our resources. I am very proud of my ancestory and eager to learn more about it.

Hi Vanessa....I don't know that I can help you much; I am researching Pierre Cotte (Marguerite's 2nd husband)...I came across a photo of Pierre Crebassa and Nancy Roussain in the History of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie and Marquette...also, in the civil registry at St. Ignace, MI, I found a marriage of Pierre Cote and Margaret Rousseau (not Roussain, as usually listed) on 24 July 1831....a previous entry lists Augustus Rousseau and Margaret Joseph marrying on 4 January 1822...I noticed that you used Augustus/Eusatche in your message...are the two interchangeable ? I saw a reference to Eustache Roussain trading in the MN/Wisc region before moving to Athabasca and not being heard form again...will try to find the source...do you know when and how Pierre Cotte and Marguerite Roussain Cotte died ? I now that it was at L'Anse in 1845 (she before April) but nothing else....in the book I mentioned earlier, there is a letter regardign some bells owned by Margaret....hope this is of some help...diana
