William Rousseau, 1819 will
For anyone researching William Rousseau, son of William Rousseau of VA -- I ran across the following information.
I have been going through the book "Some Georgia County Records", volume 2, by Silas Emmett Jucas, Jr., from 1977. He has abstracted deeds, wills, and other records from several GA counties.
On page 115 of this book, in the section for Putnam County wills, 1808 - 1822, there is this info about William Rousseau:
pp 134 - 138 (the will is found on those pages of the original county records, Book A, Wills)
Last will and testatment of William Rousseau...William Rousseau Seignior weak in body ... to my beloved wife Lydia ... tract of land in Washington County 300 acres ... to my sons John, Travis, George & Mojell (?) Mozia .. son William .. to my daughter Betsey .. dau Peggy .. dau Lydia ... I give up one negro man named Benjamin to the person alluded in my father William Rousseau's last will and testament, who deceased in the state of Virginia, Forquare (Fauquier Countyy ... William Rousseau (seal) ... Wit: W. Woosey (?), Charles S. Hurt, Spencer Hurt. Dated Jun 5, 1819. Proven: Aug 22, 1820. Rec. Sep 4, 1820 Coleman Pendleton.
I've seen postings about Mozia (and various spellings of it), about 3 generations of William, about William Seignior, about William with wife Lydda or Lydia. So I thought there might be some interest in this will that lists a father and children -- 3 generations mentioned in the same will here.
If anyone has any information about Mary J. Rousseau (Rossau, Rosser, Rossaw), born in VA in 1811 or so, I'd appreciate hearing about it. She married John A. Young in Elbert Co, GA in 1836. They are my great-great-grandparents.
