I have seen a decendency line on one world tree and believe the brother of a Richard Routin born in 1815 is where my line comes in but cant seem to connect it for sure.In 1850 wilson co.tn census ...a Richard Rowton(as they spelled it) lived next door to a Allen family.Richards wife was Sarah Green.Richard, according to the one world tree had a brother William.I saw where Mary Rankin lived with her daughter instead of her sons after the first Richard died.I believe that my Frances E.Routin was the niece of Richard and Sarah through his brother William;and that she was visiting her uncle when she met her future husband who lived next door in the Allen household. His name was listed as Franklin Whitehead(a nephew) but his full name was Francis M.or Frank for short, after they married in 1853.If you have any info on William, who he married or his childrens names. Please contact me.I would love to finally have the last piece of the puzzle.

Shirley, I do know the name of Bessie's mother, as shows in the 1910 Choctaw Co, OK, Oakes Twp, Bessie is shown living with her her mother, Lidie A. Smith, and stepfather, Bird Q. Smith. Bessie has siblings, Harry, John, Clarence, Nolan and Ruby (all named Harper), then there were some Smith children (don't know if any were Lidie's children or not): Gertrude, Eugene, Inez. If you will e-mail me, I will give you a website address where I have this info.

Somewhere I got the info that Lidie was b. 1871 in Manchester, TX.

Nancy

I have found a record of an Abner R. Routon in Gill, Meriwether County, Georgia in the 1900 census. I beleive that it is safe to assume that your Abner R. Routon is related somehow to my Abner R. Routon. I am interested in trying to map out the Routon family of Meriwether County because my fiance is a decendant of the Routons of Meriwether County (he is also has the Routon last name). Any information that you would be willing to share would be greatly appreciated. I am more than willing to share what I have found. Feel free to email me personally at queen_eliza1558@hotmail.com or we can just communicate through the post boards.

Looking for information on the Routon family of Meriwether County, Georgia. I have little information thus far. What is known: Benjamin Woodfin Routon was the son of Andrew? (difficult to read his name in 1900 census) and Lucina Routon; he is listed as being born in November of 1890; his wife Bessie Rollins is living near him as her and her family are the family listed just above the Routons in the 1900 census; last name spelled Rouden in this census. I have information on some of his descendants but little on his ancestors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Patricia.

What I know for certain is: John Henry Routon was a son of Philip Routon (born 1792, Buckingham Co, VA; died 1838, Henry County, TN). Philip Routon was a son of John Routon of Buckingham Co, VA (born probably before 1740, died 1810/1811 Buckingham Co, VA). The parents of John Routon are unknown. However, John apparently lived in either King & Queen County or Caroline County, VA, before buying his land in Buckingham County in 1764.
Janet: you have the soc sec number, if you send for his original soc sec application , it should have his parents names, including mothers maiden name and his place of birth on it. Go to the social security death index and they have the forms and the price for it. It costs less if you already have the soc sec number . You can get to the soc sec death index thru ancestry.com . Charlene

Trying to connect all the Lincoln Co. Routons

Our Routon line is also in Lincoln Co. in the1800's and possibly earlier. After our branch migrated to Illinois in the early 1900's they began to spell the name as Routien for some unknown reason. Prior to that, we find it as Rowton, Routon, Rowtan, Routin, etc. I have been networking with other descendants of this same family with roots in KY and would love to share info with anyone else so we can all fill in our blanks in the family history, hopefully in our lifetime. This family tended to have HUGE families so I know there are hundreds of descendants out there. Our direct ancestor in Lincoln Co., as far as we can be certain, is a John Routon b. around 1809, give or take a little, who married Martha Withers first, then Nancy Sandifer. Since our John was most likely not an "only child" am hoping to find other siblings, uncles, etc. as well as who his parents might have been.

Routons(all spellings) in Lincoln Co. Ky

Would like to swap info with anyone with a Routon ancestor in Lincoln or Garrard Co. KY, or anywhere in KY. Our family was in Lincoln Co.through the 1800's, and possibly earlier. Many migrated to other states, including Illinois, Oklahoma, Kansas, maybe Texas. Our branch went to Lawrence Co. Illinois in the early 1900's following the oil boom in that county. After settling in Illinois, they spelled the name as Routien, who knows why, but prior to that, it was always found spelled as Routon, Routin, Rowton, Rowtan, etc. Sure you've all had the same problem with the various spellings. I can be reached via the message board or at LeahinWA@yahoo.com. Would love to solve some of these ancestral mysteries.
