I suspect the answer is simply: there are many, many different ROUX families, some have crests while others do not. And those with different crest are just simply different families.
As you probably the know, the surname is very common and widespread in France (and other countries).

Looking for descendant of Antoine Sanschagrin son of Simon Roux dit Sanschagrin

I am looking for living males with the Roux surname who are descendants of Antoine Sanschagrin/Roux, son of Simon Roux dit Sanschagrin, to participate in the Roux/LeRoux DNA surname project. So far, we have discovered a highly rated DNA match between descendants of two of Simon's sons (Frances Xavier Roux/LeRoux and Louis Sanschagrin/LeRoux/Roux). We are now seeking to find a descendant from Simon Roux dit Sanschagrin's third and final son, Antoine, to see if they match the descendants of the other sons. This would clearly define the haplotype of Simon Roux dit Sanschagrin and could help other researchers in tracing their lineage back to Simon Roux dit Sanschagrin and beyond. Testing is being done through Family Tree DNA. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in participating in the study or if you have any questions about the project or about genetic genealogy in general.

David LeRoux

Announcing the LeRoux/Roux DNA Surname Project

The LeRoux/Roux DNA Surname Project has been recently established through Family Tree DNA in order to assist genealogists with their family research. Because of surname spelling variations within related families, tracing an accurate ancestry through many generations within the LeRoux/Roux surname can be challenging. DNA testing is a useful tool in establishing or confirming a suspected lineage despite variations in surname spelling. For this reason, the LeRoux/Roux Surname Project serves all the following name variants: LeRoux, LaRoux, Roux, Rue, Laroux, Larue, leroux, lerue. Although this project was originally designed to include family lines that trace through the United States, Canada, and France, it is open to anyone worldwide interested in researching this surname.

This and other DNA surname projects work by comparing the Y chromosomes of males that share a surname (or close variation). By comparing how closely two mens Y chromosomes match, one can determine how closely related these individuals are, including how far back in time they share a common ancestor.

The more participants a project has, the more successful it will be showing how people are related.

We hope you will join us!

You can view the initial data of the LeRoux/Roux project by going to www.familytreedna.com and then search by surname for LeRoux or Roux. It will give you a link to the project page with the data collected thus far.

If you have any questions, you can post them here, or you can contact me directly at dpleroux@comcast.net

I look forward to hearing from you.

David LeRoux
Their daughter, also by the name of Victoria, was married to Robert Dufour and Arthur must have been deceased as he is not on the census. They also had a son by the name of Frederick Alfred Roux. Victoria Lemelin was my great grandmother's sister. I have pictures and information I would like to share. Please note I have a new e-mail address.

I am looking for descendants of Arthur Roux and Victoria Lemelin who were married on February 14, 1898 in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. Victoria Lemelin was my great grandmother, Mathilde Lemelin's sister. As far as I know two children were born from this union: Frederick Roux who married Fernande Turmel and Victoria Roux who married Robert Dufour. Victoria Lemelin's parents, Anthyme Lemelin and Lesie (Zelie) Nadeau, were married on February 12, 1872 at Isle Verte in Quebec, Canada. I have pictures of Anthyme and Lesie and family.

Hello Roux Family! My husband is Corey Allen ROUX (b. 1/21/1970). I am helping him trace his family. His father was Robert Charles ROUX (b. 8/3/1947 in Goffstown, NH and d. 12/31/1994 in Washington, PA). His mother is Gail Lynn BURPEE (b. 1/24/1951). They were married in Manchester, NH on 2/8/1969. His grandparents are Charles ROUX and Mary (Marie) VILLEMAIRE. His grandmother also had children with the last name GREGOIRE and a sister by the name of Elizabeth Mary KNOT that lives in Littleton, NH. We know that Corey's father lived in an orphanage, even though his parents were alive. One of Robert's brothers, William "Billy" ROUX, recently passed away. Robert had several other children with at least three women. I believe Corey's grandmother is buried in Dairy, NH. Please email me at mickeycorey@sbcglobal.net if you have any further information.

That's great information, but all marriages are registered by location. Without a location I don't know whether to look in USA or CAN. No matter what country, the minimum info needed is the state or province, and at least a county (if possible). The fact that you have a date means you may know where they were married or where a child was born. Any information could be a vital clue, especially birth locations of children.

Regards,
Sharyn

His mothers name was Katherin and fathers name maybe was Neal? They were French-Canadian and Walter possibly remarried to a French-Canadian. Walter went by Robert or Bob. My mother was adopted by her stepdad Wesley Gillette. I would appreciate any information

Hi June-
If you can get a copy of Roux's obituary and death certificate, that might help. Sometimes there is a lookup volunteer for the area that might do the footwork for you. Once I found out what my Roux's date of death was, I contacted the court house and ordered his death certificate. This showed his parent's names..but sometimes they don't. Then his obituary luckily listed his birthplace in Seloncourt, France. Since then, I've been able to connect with at least another family living nearby that were all from the same line. From a start of one, I now have over 140! French records give a lot of details that can help you get even further. My George was born in 1848 in France. My great grandfather was born in Alsace in 1871. The other family that was related came over even earlier...1850, I believe. Look for the location where they died first and see if you can get anywhere with that. With mine, I only knew he lived in Fort Wayne, IN...that the father had abandoned them and that he came over with his mother. I found out that his mother probably died, he came over with another woman, and he rejoined his father in Fort Wayne, IN! I had joined the IN census list and had someone do a search for Charles Roux for 1880 since he came over in 1878. I really didn't expect to find anyone, and here he was with his father, a stepmother and 4 half-siblings! Good luck with your search and if you get anywhere with it, let me know...our Rouxs may be related!

Charles Adolphus Roux, Gordon Wallace Roux, Samuel Roux (maybe related)/Calgary, 1933-1935

Searching for information on Charles Adolphus Roux and his families of Calgary. Charles ran off with his first wife's cousin, maybe Mary Jean Burgess on Ontario, who he married and ended up with in Fort Wayne, Indiana where others of his family still lived. She died in 1925 and he vanished once again. His daughters, Louise and Loretta located two of his children that he had by another marriage...a boy and a girl in Calgary and corresponded with them some. But on Mary Jean Roux's obit, it showed she had no children surviving her. Charles ended up in Calgary as a salesman in 1933-1935. Son by first marriage, Gordon Wallace Roux (Louise Claire Juneau) was also listed there in 1933-1935 as a salesman. A Samuel Roux is also listed in Calgary in 1935. He maybe the son of Charles's second wife.

Georges settled in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Other members of the family settled in Ohio, but had lived in NYC for sometime before moving on. Georges had a sister, Julia who also emigrated to Fort Wayne, and a brother Fredric who stayed in France.

I have Roux, Planson, Renaud, Juillard, Peugeot, Louys of Stryker, Ohio, who originated in Seloncourt, Valentigney, Audincourt, Exincourt, and other areas of Doubs. Like you, I've researched the Valentigney records, but still have not made the connection between Louys, Juillard, Renaud in Ohio to those in Valentigney. My Roux of Seloncourt married into the Julliard/Renaud line of Valentigney. Some Peugeots also married into this line. Then one of the Roux emigrated to Stryker and one of the children/grandchildren married Planson. My Roux was the grandson of the brother to this Roux and ended up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. One of the Ohio Roux's grandsons, joined my Roux in Fort Wayne. Anyway, I was hoping that maybe we could make connections.
