Hi Sue

This looks like an old post that got sidetracked?

Answer to your original query is yes Abel features in my ancestry. My fathers, fathers mother was Lydia Thackeray Rowbotham and my grandfathers birth was registered as a Rowbotham! His father James Alexander later married Lydia, although I have not been able to trace the marriage certificate. They had five children altogether in Birmingham. Lydia was the daughter of Thomas 1841-1910 whose father was Abel 1809-1876 who was born in Holmfirth, Yorkshire and married Sarah Thackeray.

I believe Abel's father was also Abel c1776-1858 and his father was Joseph 1737-1810 and his father was Ralph c1694-c1771 but some of this may be conjecture on my part!

If this is still of interest please let me know and we can swop notes and may be be able to expand our knowledge of the Rowbothams.

Regards

Steve Alexander
