Surnames: Rowden, McDowell, Cripps, Palmer, Echols
I was here a few years' back researching the Rowdens in my family, and I wanted to see if anyone now knows more that may help in my search.

First of all, I am 26 years old, living in St. Louis, MO - one of three children born to Gary Ray Rowden and Suellyn McDowell Rowden of Murphysboro, IL (my b'day is 6/13/78). My dad, Gary (2/8/48), is one of 7 children born to Charley/Charlie Mac Rowden and Amy Mildred Cripps Rowden of Murphysboro also. I'm trying to figure out as much of my family tree as possible, so here's what my hunches are, and I need to know if anyone can make me more sure on this stuff:

I may have found a possible link in my family to Capt. John Rowden who came over from Kent, England in 1700 or so and died in 1739 on the Atlantic Ocean. Well, my grandpa, Charley/Charlie Mac Rowden (b. 1917) came to Murphysboro sometime when he was growing up - he and his siblings were originally from Roane County, TN. Charley Mac is one of 5 children born to James Shadrack (or Shadrach) Rowden and Annie Francis Palmer Rowden, of Roane County, TN. I don't know anything for sure beyond James Shadrack/h Rowden, and I need some help, but here's what might be true: Shadrach seems as if it's a family name in a line of Capt. John Rowden's descendents - he had a son named John Rowden (ABT 1730-3/23/1816, buried in Roane Co.,TN), who married Sarah Echols in 1750. They lived in VA, had 8 children together, and then moved to Roane Co., TN. The children were Abraham Echols Rowden, John Rowden III, Joseph Rowden (b. 1765), Laban Rowden, Tabitha Rowden, Hubbard Rowden, Lott Rowden and Jensey Rowden. Evidently, Joseph Rowden may be my link. He had several sons, including Isaac Curry, Shadrach, Meshac and Abednigo. Shadrach might be my link here. I'm not sure of his dates, but he was probably born around 1800. In a Roane Co., TN related web site, I found a Shadrach Rowden listed in the Roane Co., TN Civil War troop list in 1862, age 36. So, he must be Shadrach Rowden II, born in 1836, and there might be a link to my great-grandfather, James Shadrack/h Rowden, who had to have been born anywhere from 1870-1890 or so, since Charley Mac Rowden (grandpa) was born in 1917. If anyone could help me with this lineage and help me find out if I'm right, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!
