Hi,

This is just to make contact. My g't grandmother, Anna Maria Cox was born in Shapwick in 1850. I have her family bible in which she recorded the deaths of a number of family and friends. If you give me a list of the families you are interested in, i will see if they are included.

I have just bought the Book "The Shapwick Project". At 1146 pages it is going to take some time to get through!

I was born in the UK but now live in Bridgewater, South Australia.

Regard, Norman

Hiram Rowley from Ridgway, Pennsylvannia

This question is for the family of Hiram Rowley (married to Florie Norton in Marengo County, Alabama about 1905). They (he) had a daughter named Olive who later married Mr. Blackmon. I am trying to locate the burial site of Florie Norton's mother, Mercena Norton - she went to Ridgway with Florie to visit Hiram Rowley's family (sometimes after 1910, but before 1920). While Mercena was visiting there she died and was buried somewhere in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. Any information that could help me locate Mercena Norton's burial site would be much appreciated). Thanks!!

In 1891 census George Sparvel is living in Edmonton Union workhouse, he died the following year. Whether or not she married Mr Starks, Emma did marry again in 1911.
They are not my direct ancestors, I researched them for a cousin.

Paula

James Norfleet Rowley & Pearlie Perkins

I'm posting a photo of the family I'm researching in hopes that someone here on ancestry.com can help me locate the parents of James Norfleet Rowley and also info on either him or his wife. His wife's name may have been "Pear Lee" Perkins.

This photo is of James Norfleet Rowley, his wife Pearlie (or) Pear Lee Perkins and their daughter Alice Mineola Rowley/Miley. According to the family Pearlie was Redbone. Photo was taken in early 1900's?, in Rapides Parish, LA.

Photo info:
James Norfleet Rowley, b. 26 Mar 1870 in Indiana (or) Virginia, d. 18 Dec 1919 in Rapides Parish, LA. He is buried in Amiable Cemetery, Rapides Parish Louisiana along with Pearlie.
Pearlie (or) Pear Lee Perkins, b. 12 Apr 1883 near Glenmora, LA (or) Pickens, Rapides Parish, LA , d. 27 Sep 1957 Louisiana.
I think this Pearlie Perkins is the same "Pear Lee" Perkins I found as the daughter of Michael Perkins and Martha Ann Mancil. I have no proof of this, but I'm hoping someone can help me with it. I haven't found ANY "Pearlie" anywhere.
Pearlie's siblings were: Asa Perkins and Lou Ella (or) Lula Perkins.
James Norfleet Rowley was the son of Benjamin Rowley and Katherine Hill?? This is also not proven by me, but I am still researching this family.

Sincerely,
Shelly Belk

Don't know if any of this will help you but- Emma's daughter Amy is my paternal grandmother. Amy's birth certificate (1903) shows father as Henry John Sparwell (deceased), house decorator. I'm unable to locate Henry John Sparwell in BMD records. There was, however, a Henry Starks, painter & paper hanger, born Ware, Hertfordshire and described as "visitor" listed in Emma's household at time of 1901 census. Emma had been married to a George Jessop (or George Joseph) Sparvel but I don't yet know when he died. Do you have any further details yet?

My great great grandmother is Lydia Ann Rowley. She Was born Nov 18, 1829 supposedly in Schenectady, Albany, New York. I found an Abijah Rowley on the 1800 Federal Census record for that area. On that census, the head of house hold is the only one mentioned. It shows three boys and four girls born to Abijah. I am trying to see if this would be Lydia's father or grandfather. If anyone out there could help me find any information on this area I would appreciate it. I do not know any other information for Lydia except she married John Beacock I st Louis Missouri Jly 11, 1853. Marty

I think your Lydia Rowley could more likely be a granddaughter of Abijah, but I have no info about whether his son Samuel had a daughter named Lydia. Also, there were several other Rowley families in NY.

Abijah Rowley and Elizabeth Culver had a daughter named Lydia b. 19 May 1797 in Galway, Saratoga Co. NY. Other children were Samuel (1788), Elizabeth (abt 1791), Cloe (abt 1794), Mary or Maria (abt 1800) and Cornelia (1806).

Following record extracted from "The Official Roster of the Soldiers of the American Revolution buried in the State of Oho", Columbus, Ohio: Ohio Adjutant General's Dept., 1929-1959, 1341 pgs.
To add to my earlier post, at least two of Patrick's children went to the USA. Anthony spent years there but I only have hearsay to tell me that and he's not found on any UK census until 1901. One of his sisters became a nun (Sarah or Elizabeth) in America but no concrete information on that either!
Jo Bolton (nee Rowley)

My Rowleys come from Sligo and fled to England around 1859 to settle in Yorkshire. I have little information on Patrick Rowley b circa 1821 who had land but had to flee from the police as they discovered a still on his property. His children Michael b 1853, Anthony b 1856 and others, all came with him. I have no information on his wife. If anyone can advise on the best way to search for Irish links then I would be grateful. Thanks. Jo Bolton (nee Rowley)
I am looking for documentation on Brigadier General Thomas Algeo Rowley of Pittsburgh. He was born in 1808 and died in 1892 although this is in dispute. General Rowley served in the Mexican War and the Civil War. He commanded the 3rd Division, First Army Corps at Gettysburg. I am looking for information as I am preparing a biography of the General.
Ebenezer Rowley, Rev. War, BURIAL Differs from SAR info

I believe the SAR info is wrong for the burial place of Ebenezer Rowley, Sr., Rev. War Soldier, d.1811.
SAR has him as buried in Winsted Cem., Winsted, Litchfield Co., CT; they cite the "46-55th Annual Reports DAR Senate Documents"
I suddenly noticed the other day, that most people with Ebenezer in their trees, now carry the SAR burial info of Winsted Cem., and it made me wonder why? Before you all jump to the conclusion that the SAR is right, I'd like to point out that the SAR classified this listing as "Not Evaluated" which seems to me is the same as Unverified.

I would also point out that the Society of Mayflower Descendants has in its files an affidavit by Warren C. Rowley, dated Feb. 1897 at Utica, NY, in which he states that he personally copied the inscription from the tomb of Ebenezer and Susannah Rowley which is "LOCATED ON THE FARM WHICH HE OWNED IN EAST HADDAM, NEAR THE VILLAGE OF MODUS" [sic, Moodus]
This may be found in "The Mayflower Descendant" Vol. 35, No. 2, July 1985; Original source MSMD Documentation 19, pp. 129 & 130, File Nos. 145, 151, 259

It is interesting that everyone uses the dates which Warren C. Rowley discovered, yet ignores the place he says he found those dates. Even the SAR.

I found some nformation on Winsted Cemetery, Litchfield Co., which states there is a Monument which lists Connecticut men who served in the War. It may well be that Ebenezer (or even his son Ebenezer, who also served) is named on this monument, but my belief is that he was buried on his farm, in Tolland County, just as Warren C. Rowley stated.

I am still investigating this, as I have not personally seen the DAR information, but I suspect it might have something to do with the installation of the monument, and I hope to make a quick trip up to both Moodus and Winsted soon. I don't hold much hope for finding Ebenezer's grave, after all this time, but I am sure planning to look!
To that end - Does anyone have any concrete information as to where the farm of Ebenezer Rowley was located? "In East Haddam, near Modus" is a little vague.
Thanks,
Deborah
