Any DNA PROJECTS for ROYER Males/Paternity?

Any DNA PROJECTS for ROYER MALES/Paternity? I've been looking at several DNA web sites and wondered if anyone knows of any ROYER DNA Projects for Males. I realized that my brother is the only Royer male survivor from all our cousins and grandchildren. I want him to complete one of those 44 marker DNA kits. I heard a local news story where several Farr Family members submitted their DNA to a project and discovered a common ancestor in Europe. We've hit a brick wall in our Royer ancestry going back to Christian Royer who lived and married around 1800 in Somerset County, PA, then migrated to Tuscarawas County, OH. His descendants migrated from Ohio to Indiana, Illinois and Kansas.

Re: Jacob Royer & Sarah Fry Marriage

Hello Debora,
I find that your Jacob Royer married Sarah, aka Sally, Fry, also seen as Frey, on Feb. 27, 1868, in Stephenson county, Illinois. This is where she grew up and where her family lived. Father John Fry, mother Catherine Erwin., sibs, Daniel, Israel, Aaron, Abraham, Rebecca, Elizabeth, and Henry.
John probably died in Falls City, Richardson NE between 1885 and 1900. Catherine died Jan. 19, 1904, while living with son Henry and family, in Driftwood pre., Rawlins co. KS, and is buried at Cornell Cem, Hitchcock co., NE.
Jacob and Sarah children I find are Nettie, Pearl Estelle, Paul and Ruth. Jacob and Sarah most likely die in LA, California.
Hope this helps.
Jean

Jacob Royer & Sarah Fry

I'm looking for information on the marriage of Jacob Royer & Sarah Fry. Their first child (that I've found), Pearl, was born Sep 1874, so it would be prior to that. I only know that she was born in Nebraska from a census record. Her sister, Ruth, (my GGmother) was born in Falls City, Richardson, Nebraska in Jan 1885. Other child is Paul, born Mar 1881 in Nebraska. Possible other child, Anetta. No idea if Jacob & Sarah were married in Nebraska, but since their children were born there, thought it would be a good place to start. Anyone know where or how I can get the right records. I've done tons of searches already & come up empty. Thanks, Debora

Fascinated to read what you have on Charles Royer, who was my 3 x Great Grandfather by his daughter Anne Louisa Royer (1820-1899), who married Frederick Mylius Dick in 1840. She, like her siblings, was also born in Mauritius, but died in London. My branch only know that Charles was the Harbour Master of Port Louis in Mauritius. I am fairly certain that he was born in Stepney, London in 1775.

Janet Parkes

Have you tried the library in Harrisonburg for information? I know it is not the Internet but visiting this small college town is a treat and I know there is at least one book there (under the surname, Leap, I believe)that included extensive information on the John Royer family. If you should visit there, be sure to take in the Quilt Museum and the Historical Society

I, too, am a descendant of John Royer out of Lancaster County PA and since I live in PA, I have visited the town of Brickerville where this family began in America. Quite enlightening!

Re: Immigration date of Sebastian Mathias Royer, PA

I've just joined Ancestry & looked at message board for first time. The published book on the Royers gives dates of immigration of Sebastian Mathias Rheyer from Germany to PA on the ship "delaware" in 1726. We have other info regarding the homestead location & additional property from Wm Penn family. I see 4 daughters.......Maria Catharina Rheyer born 23 Sept 1725 and Anna Catharina Rheyer born 20 Sept 1728.
Sebastian was not naturalized until 1743, however had received the land grant prior to then from Wm Penn family. Obviously both done well in property & donated for building of 2 churches there in Lancaster County.

As your posting was a long time ago, please advise if you still need additional information.

Nancy Royer-Green

Re: Rachel Royer Gilbert (1821-1914) d/o Jacob & Elizabeth (Barrett) Royer

Rachel Royer Gilbert's obituary appeared in the Harrisburg Telegraph on Sep 7, 1914 in Harrisburg, PA:

Former Steelton Resident Dies From Old Age

[Picture of Rachel]

MRS. WILLIAM GILBERT

Mrs. William Gilbert, aged 93 years died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. H. Moser, 44 North Seventeenth street, Harrisburg, yesterday. Death was due to old age. She is survived by three children, nine grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She was the great-grandmother of O. C. Bickel, silk buyer for Dives, Pomeroy & Stewart's department store.

Mrs. Gilbert was born in Montgomery county and spent her adult life in Reading until twenty-five years ago when she moved to Steelton. About four years ago she came to this city, making her home with her daughter, Mrs. H. H. Moser. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Steelton for more than fifteen years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. M. P. Hocker, pastor of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Steelton and the Rev. Lewis C. Manges, pastor of the Memorial Lutheran Church, Fifteenth and Shoop streets, Harrisburg, will officiate.

NOTE: Rachel had several great-great grandchildren when she died in 1914 including my grandfather, Kirby C. J. Davis [b. 1913] his sisters Sallie Davis [b. 1908] and Lillian Davis [b. 1910]. There were several others as well.

------------------
Hopefully with this new information something may turn up now. I reviewed the 1830 Census of Marlborough, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania which lists JACOB ROYER born between 1780-1790. With a female 30-40 years old as well as 1 male under 5; 1 male 5-10; and 1 female 5-10 who I think is my RACHEL (ROYER) GILBERT [b. 1821].

That is the only JACOB living in Montgomery County in 1830. It is funny that Rachel's mother is listed as a ELIZABETH BARRETT on her death certificate. Living next to Jacob Royer in the 1830 Census is JACOB BARRETT who is between 50-60 years old with 1 female in the same age bracket.

Re: Immigration date of Sebastian Mathias Royer, PA

Thanks, Nancy. The 1726 dates seems about right. I am doing research into Conrad Rutter, another original settler in Leacock Twp. His plantation was to the east of Adam Lightner, while Sebastian Royer was to the west (all near Intercourse, PA). Many of the settlers in the vicinty of Muddy Run (including Conrad) moved up from a place called Bohemia Manor in Cecil County, MD around 1723-1726 (although I have no evidence that SR was part of this group). Most appear to have been squatters who did not receive official warrants or patents until 1729 or later, when Lancaster was established as its own county. While it's going to take awhile, I plan to write up and post the results of my research on the web. If you have any questions about early Leacock settlers, feel free to contact me. Likewise, any interesting info you come across, please send my way.

Regards,

Chris Rutter
