Rubins in Golden Crown Cemetery, Woburn

My father's mother was Marcia (Rubinsky/Rubin) Levine, buried in Golden Crown Cemetery in Woburn, Mass.

I have just received photos of her gravestone, along with half a dozen Rubins and Rubinskys buried around her. They are almost certainly close relatives, but I have no evidence. If anyone knows about:

Welly Rubin (1856-1909)
Annie (?) Rubin (1871-1949)
Gertrude (?) Rubin (1886-1919)

Henry Rubinsky (1867-1936)
Sarah Z. (?) Rubinsky (1872-1929)
Jacob Rubinsky (1868-1943)
Mollie, wife of Jacob Rubinsky (1869-1944)

please contact me!

Thank you.

Steve..
solongago@vfemail.net

Hello, all. I was wondering if any of you had any information on an Abram Rubin, who may have lived in the Ternopil region of the Ukraine. He had a daughter named Mirjam or Mirale in 1943. He may have been born in 1911. If any of you think you can help Mirjam, go to the following link and add your comments:

http://www.missing-identity.net/mi/index.php?option=com_cont...

If the link doesn't work, just search "Missing identity" on google. The first link is the website with the children listed - and more information to help identify them.
Some of your points ring a bell... My grandmother's name was Bessie Rubin (maiden name). She had a brother Hymie (could have been Hyman). She traveled with her parents from Russia to Boston (by way of Liverpool, England). They settled in Boston in the early 1900's. Let me know if anything hits home here...

Hello

My name is Raphael Rubin.
I am looking to family connections in the US and elsewhere.

--------------------------------------------------------
My great grand father: (Yad Vachem Testimony)
Lew ,LAJBISZ, Yehuda, Rubin was born in Tomaszow Mazowieckie in 1887 to Shlomo and Rakhel. He was an accountant and married to Malka nee Valdman. Prior to WWII he lived in Paris, France. During the war he was in Paris, France. Lew perished in 1942 in Auschwitz, Poland. This information is based on a Page of Testimony (displayed on left) submitted on 27-Jul-1971 by his daughter.
Also, He is the last son of a certain Mrs Papuska, not sure of the spelling, a family which apparently was one of the wealthiest of Warsaw, as his father had remarried to this Mrs Papuska.
My grand father actually lived in the Papuska family house in Warsaw before leaving for France in the 30's if your name is Rubin and you come from Tomaszow, Mazowieckie , Poland.
Indeed my great great grand father had 16 children, including Lew.

You can contact me on
raphael_rubin@yahoo.fr
Re: my father was from Tomazow Lubelski, Poland

My grandmother was also from Tomazsow Lubelski. Most of her family (the Lederkremers, Brandt and Bryks) was murdered by the germans. She escaped to the USSR and was deported to Siberia. There she was imprisioned in a forced labor camp with her toddler daughter. She told me that being a weak woman, she was made to work with a weak old man. Her "work" partner was the Tomazsow "Czeczenever Rebbe" whose last name was Halberstam. I think he (and maybe a son) died in Siberia but his wife and daughter came to the US.

Hello,

If you have a male in the family with the surname, RUBIN, or one of its variants, they can join the RUBIN Surname Project. It´s a way of determining your relatives using DNA analysis. There is no blood testing, only a simple swab of the inner cheek of the mouth. E-mail me if you have any questions. Also, please click on the following website to learn more. Once there, click on "background" and "goals".

https://www.familytreedna.com/public/RUBIN%20Family

Sincerely,

Bob RUBIN
bob_rubin@hotmail.com

My great grandfather's name was Jake/Jacob Rubin. He lived in Savannah, GA. He had a wife named Hannah/Anna? and a brother named Phillip. Phillip had a son named Saul and may have had more children than just Saul. I believe Saul was a doctor and he had a brother who had three children - Douglas, Dora and Janet. If this sounds familiar, please email me @ ericasf@msn.com.

Re: Rubin Switzerland Lauterbrunnen?

My father's family on the paternal side is from Lauterbrunnen. My paternal grandfather had a brother called Georg Rubin. He also married a German lady BUT her surname was Göller. They lived in Germany BUT (again) I was told he died in Ludwigshafen in 1939. A relation once gave me a small family tree but I can't quite read his date of birth (maybe 1898 which wouldn't fit for you). Anyway, he had 5 children, one of whom (Gotthard) moved to the USA (New Jersey). Any help ? I would also like to go back further into my family tree, but I can't get beyond great-grandparent stage and even that is very patchy....!

I am a direct descendent of Gottfried Rubin and Hilda V. Minter. My friend is an ancestral researcher and has been working for about a year on my family history. She has gathered a lot of information already, and is still working on it for me. She has birth, marriage and death records, burial and cemetery records, census records, funeral home records, military records, obituaries and etc. Are you interested in exchanging information?

Louis Rubin - owner Chandler's Restaurant in Ny & Moulin Rouge in Las Vegas

I am trying to help a person who is a film documentary maker in NY. She is making a documentary on Blacks in Las Vegas, and she is interested in locating and interviewing descendants of Louis Rubin who owned Chandler's Restaurant in NY because he was part owner of the Moulin Rouge in Las Vegas in the 1950's. The Moulin Rouge was the first casino in Las Vegas that was integrated, and it was only open a few months in 1955 but it was very popular and set a historic landmark by allowing Black people in the audience as well as on the stage. There is information on the internet if anyone is interested, do a search for the words Moulin Rouge Louis Rubin. The Moulin Rouge paved the way for later desegregation in Las Vegas, and it was later declared a historic landmark.

There are many Louis Rubins in New York and I am not sure which one is the one who owned the Moulin Rouge. The other co-owner of the Moulin Rouge was Alexander Bisno, who was from Chicago and later California. Alexander was born in 1897 in Illinois, son of Abraham & Sarah Bisno who were both born in Russia.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kari Northup

Louis Rubin was my great-great uncle
My name is Barry Rubin. Louis was, I believe, the brother of my great grandfather, Haim Shimon Rubin. I am now researching Louis. When my grandfather, Yakov Yeramayhu Rubin came to America on November 17, 1910, he told immigration he was coming to meet Louis, his uncle. This is why he--and perhaps also his future wife Chaya (Anna) came to DC. They went into the grocery business, like Louis. In Israel I have met with many from Dolhinov which was also Louis's birthplace. I would love to exchange information with you on these topics. I have a lot of data. Barry Rubin. I can be contacted at profbarryrubin@yahoo.com
Rubin and Ruppin

Are the surnames Rubin ans Ruppin one in the same? Ancestry.com states (among other derivatives):

Jewish (Ashkenazic): from the Hebrew personal name Reuven (interpreted in Genesis 29:32 as reu ‘behold’ + ben ‘a son’). This Biblical name influenced the selection of Ashkenazic surnames that are ostensibly derived from the German, Yiddish, Polish, Ukrainian, and Russian vocabulary word rubin ‘ruby’ (from Late Latin rubinus (lapis), a derivative of rubeus ‘red’).

I have yet to find the origins of the surname Ruppin other than that of it being a town in Brandenburg, Germany. It seems though a rather exclusively Jewish name as well.
Hello,
I came across your blog, and wanted to mention a great book that I recently found named The Shtetl That Was by Ralph Jaffe. Mr. Jaffe wrote about his life growing up in Kavarskas in the 1920s. I am researching relative named Dorf. They are from Kavarskas. However, there is mention of them being from Smolinka, Poland or Schmalinka, Poland, and some think that is in the same area as Kavarskas. I have yet to find such a place. The Jaffe book is enjoyable reading.
John Singer
Denver, CO

DNA TESTING FOR RUBIN FAMILY TO FIND RELATIVES

The RUBIN Family Project is open to all who are interested in working together to find their common heritage through sharing of information and DNA testing.

For men, you may test your Y-DNA. In this case, you must have the surname RUBIN or a spelling variant of this surname (such as RUBINSTEIN, RUBENSTEIN, RUBEN, RUBINOWITZ, RUBINOVITZ, RUBENOWITZ, RUBENOVITZ, RUBINSKY, RUBINSKI, RUBENSKY, RUBENSKI, or others).

For men or women who want to test their maternal ancestry, you will need to order the mitochondrial DNA test. This test should be ordered if ANY of the following apply:
your mother´s mother´s mother, OR
your mother´s mother´s mother´s mother, OR
your mother´s mother´s mother´s mother´s mother, and so on down the mother´s maternal line of the family, had the surname RUBIN or a variant spelling of the surname.

From these tests, we will be able to see if we have common ancestry, and furthermore, narrow down the year of which two people had a common ancestor using the newer Y-DNA67 test and/or the Mt DNA Plus (high resolution Maternal Match) test. We will know which families may be more closely related to others. We feel that this will help us to better understand and to be able to proceed much more efficiently with our research. Also, this will enable us to formulate a map of the paths that our ancestors took throughout the centuries. It would be extremely interesting. Note: The group has decided to all use the Y-DNA67 test (male 67 marker paternal test (group) and/or the mt DNA Plus (high resolution Maternal Match) test. Please e-mail the group administration, Robert RUBIN, if you have any questions or comments. Please visit our website and add your family to the Patriarch Page.
