Re: Thomas Ruckman of Augusta, Virginia

My family still lives in Augusta in the hollow where the Ruckman's originally settled. Originally they arived in Long Island, NY from Wales in 1660. About 1792 three brothers; Joseph, Samuel & Thomas came to Hampshire County VA (now WVA. I am a direct Thomas. He settled the land south of Romney, WV on the South prong of Little Capon Creek. I have a hand-written note from Elj. Ruckman, Great, Great Grand Son of the first Samuel Ruckman written in 1928 on a visit to the Hollow (known as Belle's Hollow).

The son of Thomas was Jacob married Catherine Cooper. To this union were born 2 daughters Mary and Rhoda Ruckman and 2 sons Thomas and Samuel (known as Big Sam). Samuel C Ruckman married Elizabeth Watkins. To this union were born 3 daughters Harriet (who married Samuel Park and their decendents still live in the Hollow. Julia and Rhoda Ellen never married. Son Jacob died young. James Thomas Ruckman (Jimmy T) married Caroline Fahs. To this union were born 2 daughters Frances Elmira who married Henry Comption (their house is still standing and occupied in the Hollow, and Martha Rosetta who married Edgar J. Loy. Their home is at the top of the hill near Ford Creek Road just above the Hollow. They had one child born late in life who did not survive childbirth. There were 4 sons Albert Middleton who married Alverda Wolford (my great grandparents), Jacob Calvin who married Martha McDonald of Shanks, WV William Jackson and Samuel Fahs Ruckman who died young in the same year. From Albert and Alberta came my Grandfather Ira Clinton Ruckman and Floyd Manning Ruckman.

My Mother Hazel May Ruckman Beaman still lives in the Hollow and is 88 years old. She lives in the home where she was born that was built by Ira and his wife Edith Estelle Timbrook Ruckman. My grandchildren who live there are the 10th generation to walk the roads and play in the creeks.

I have not been able to find Cora B Plecker or Mary F. but I will take your information with me the next visit to Mom and see what she can tell me.

If you would like a copy of the hand-written note, please send an address. Keep in Touch!

Dorothy

Re: Peter Ruckman and Sarah Lee

My family line also come from Peter Ruckman and Sarah Lee. I come from their daughter Anna/Ann who married a Garrison.

I am really trying to find the name of Peter's wife's parents. Who were Sarah Lee's parents?

The reason I ask is because an older man in the family says that Sarah Lee some how stems from Henry Lee the 2nd and Lucy Grymes. The older man thinks there is a skipped generation there and that Sarah Lee's grandparents are Henry and Lucy Lee. Henry and Lucy Lee are also grandparents to General Robert E Lee. The Lee family is well documented. You can internet search Henry and Lucy.

Peter and Sarah got married in maryland? Peter is said to have been born in Maryland.

Sarah was born on/in Aug 6,1778 in Hampshire Co. VA according to a report I found online of her.

Peter and Sarah ended up living in Ohio and that is where they died. Sarah is said to have died on/in Mar 13, 1870 in Plymouth Twp. Richland Co. OH.

But that missing connection link confuses me.

Who were Sarah Lee's parents?

Thomas Ruckman of Augusta, Virginia

I am looking for any information on my Great-Great Grandfather; Thomas Ruckman of Virginia. He was the father of my Great-Grandfather William E. Ruckman. Thomas Ruckman's wife was Cora B. Plecker. His parents were Thomas (Born 1815) and Mary F. Trying to find out Mary Ruckman's Maiden Name. Together they would have had two children: Thomas, and Mollie S. There are rumors that Thomas and Mollie were adopted, so trying to get any information at all on this side of the family.

They lived in Brooklyn.

There is also a Frank Jacub Szypula, in his own handwriting puts his DOB as February 12, 1878 and hometown as "Myda, Poland". He lists his contact as "Agatha Szypula".

Hi Trevor,

Abishai John Ruckman is one of my ggrandmother's brothers. Another brother is David Pemberton Ruckman, the father of Samuel M. Ruckman born in Pike County, Ohio.

My ggrandmother is Mary Ruckman, born 1824 in Pike County Ohio. She married Osiah Moser in Pike County.

I have been researching the Ruckman siblings and have a list of 11, as well as the names of their parents, my gggrandparents. I'm also researching the Moser family and some of the information comes that side of the family.

I would very much like to exchange information. I would like to know more about David and his descendants. Who knows, maybe more Ruckman cousins from this family ended up in Canada than we realize.

Please contact me. I can tell you where I've posted information on the various message boards, and there is also some that I have not posted.

Marilyn
CT

Pike County, Ohio Ruckman Family

I have been posting research information on the Rootsweb list for the Ruckman surname.

You can find themin the list archives at
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/ruckman

This is a good place to share information and post research information because you can use your own web brower's e-mail program to compose the message.

My Ruckman ancestors are John and Polly F. Ruckman through their daughter Mary who married Osiah Moser. Very recently Ted Kuhn, a longtime time Ruckman researcher has been able to link John Ruckman with his parents. You can find the information on his website. (Ted, if you read this, maybe you can post your web address on this message board, too)

I have been posting information on any Ruckman as I find it., documenting where the information was found so you can find it again yourself. They may not all be my relatives, but they are someone's relatives.

Most of us are not going to find our relatives written up in genealogy magazines. We are going to have to dig for every bit of information. By sharing the information we find and the place where we found it, we help each other.

I have information that I have not yet had time to post there and will be adding it as I get the time.

It would also be nice to see others adding their information there too. I found this Genconnect board because it was forwarded to me through the Rootsweb Ruckman List.

Marilyn
CT

Sharing creates connections.
Connections grow family trees.

Sue, can you be more specific, and share the names of some of your Ruckman relatives. I am related to the Ruckman family that migrated from Ohio to Marion County in the 1850's. The was another Ruckman family group that came around that same time from Virginia(?)

Some of my Ruckman relatives did move to Washington State and Canada in the later part of the 1800's after growing up in Iowa. It will be easier to share information with you once your ancestral line can be determined.

Marilyn
CT

Sharing creates connections, connections grow family trees.

Re: Ruckman Family

I am interested in locating descendents of the family of Emma Ella Ruckman. She was also a child of Stephen C. Ruckman and Malinda Overton and was born in December 1875, probably on Missouri Point/Lamothe Place/West Alton, Missouri. She married a Geo. C. Eagleson in 1895 and had three girls, Christina, Malinda and Carrie L.

Emma's husband Geo. was a saloon keeper in Portage des Sioux township, St. Charles Co. Missouri in 1900. He may have died or he and Emma may have divorced because Emma remarried around 1906. She married James William Jones, Sr. and moved across the river to Alton, Illinois. Emma and James had three more children, James William Jones Jr., Evelyn Virginia Jones and Charles L. Jones.

Evelyn Virginia died in 1924 at the age of 9 of a heart defect.
Christina married Richard Bertram Bartholomew around 1920.
Malinda B. married Charles O. Benson Feb. 23, 1916.
Carrie L. was married at least three times. She married Theodore Thomas in 1922, someone with the surname Craig between 1923 and 1929, and Charlie Higgins in 1933. She and Charlie divorced in 1936.

I believe James William Jones Jr. married and moved to Gary Indiana. He may have had a daughter named Patty.

I know that Charles L. Jones entered the service around WWII but I have no record of family or his whereabouts.

I'd like to exchange information with anyone who has knowledge of this lineage.

I am slso a Ruckman.

As I understand our ancestry - Frank (francis) Ruckman moved to Saskatchewan (Canada) and either fathered here or in Austria or Germany - two children by two different wives. His children were Hilda (Laxdale) and Otto Ruckman. Otto was my grandfather.

Hilda had no children, and Otto married Isobel Gamble and had three sons: Gary(1937 or 1938??), Dale (1939??) and Trevor (1941).

Gary has two children: Lisa (1962)has 3-4 children and Scott (1965?).

Dale has three biological and two adopted sons. Biological are Randy(1960), Jim (1962) - Jim has two or three children, and Gordon (??)has one child. Adopted or assumed are David and Wayne.

Trevor had two children: Hollie(1962) and Hugh (1969). I am Hollie. I have two daughters: Suzanne (1982)and Amanda (1985).

Could we be related to you? There are rumours our last name was changed by Otto from Rueckemann to Ruckman.
