Re: Magoffin County KY Rudds

Check with the Magoffin Co. Historical Society. I think they have some info on Steve Hall. My grandmother told me she remembered Steve Hall and she remembered that he cut tombstones for people. Apparently he had a certain look to his stones and some could tell them just by the look. Unfortunately, I don't know what that look was. My gr-grandfather, John Grant Hammond, Steve's brother-in-law, made coffins, looks like maybe one kept the other on in business.
If I'm remembering right, Steve Hall is buried near Grape Creek, a branch of the Licking River, about 8 miles west of Salyersville. I know the area, a little, but not exactly where the cemetery is.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any info on Stephen Hall? He is my gr grandfather and I have run into a brick wall with him. My gr grandmother is Rachel Singleton...not much luck there either.

Yes -- he was my great-grandfather, although in my family history, he went to Montana, not North Dakota. Perhaps he stopped off there for a bit first.

Since I'm from the Demosthenes line I thought I'd post here. I'm looking for a book that Hugh Rudd published some time ago about the Rudd family. I had a copy of that in Microsoft Word that somebody sent me (with Hugh's permission), but my computer crashed not long after I got it and I can't find the post to contact the person who sent it to me to ask for it again. I'm willing to buy the book, although of course the Word doc would be better for searching purposes. I appreciate any help.

Married an Indian woman from India and started his linage in Malaysia. Its difficult to track with very little information but I am hoping there will be someone with some information. Thank you.

Keturah Rudd's father was Steven Hall. His first wife was Elizabeth Hamon, the oldest sister of my gr-grandfather, John Grant Hammond. I'm thinking that William Riley Rudd is a grandson of James H Rudd, Sr and Dorcas Payne. I cannot remember who W.R.'s father was. My guess is that it was either John Rudd or Hiram Rudd. John and Hiram's younger brother, Allen D Rudd was my gr-gr-grandfather.

Thanks for your reply, my Great grandfather's parents were Samuel Rudd and Maria Houghton Sommerleyton Suffolk.I have been trying to find any living descendants who would be able to let me know where their families ended up.Their sons Samuel William Rudd and Charles James Rudd ended up in New Zealand,Albert Charles possibly in Australia? George S C,have no idea! Hopefully I will find someone out there who could shed some light!

Just thought I'd give a quick hello incase I do make a connection!
I am just about to do a bit of research for a friend, a Rudd.
I only have the scantest of info.as follows:

A Great Great Grandad was Reginald Robert Rudd & a Grand father was Reginald Charles Rudd lived in Lowesoft,Suffolk. I'm not sure where they should be placed yet but other names are Lawerence,Ernest,George,& Ella.
some of the family ( I believe at the moment it was a George Rudd who went to Australia but have not verified this yet.)
Hope to find out more soon so will keep in touch,

It was Celtic but Rud. There is a book that contains the history of all branches of the family from about 1066 on. Published around 1917. Very limited publication but not copyrighted so you can get a copy made for $200-$300.
