Has anyone tied the Ruffin's of Virginia USA to England or else where yet?
I ask because one Mr. Ruffin has DNA tested who traces back to Virginia, is in a rare DNA group called Y chromosome Haplo Group H. This is rare regardless of the surname.
There are 7 USA family's to date in this rare DNA group, Ruffin is one of them. The others are Lock(e), Hite, Carter, Bailey, Cambell, and Jewell.
Considering the rarity of this DNA group, it is simply amazing to find out that of the 7 surnames, 6 all trace back to early Maryland and Virginia.
Why is that? I believe I have part of the answer.
Haplo Group H is throught to be of India in origin.
The Gypys of England are thought to be of Romany descent which would be descendants from India.
England had a dislike for the Gypsys and were known to deport them to American and Australia in the 1700's.
One of the known shipping routes was, England to Barbados to Maryland. If this is the exact shipping route the Gypsy's of England took, then that would explain as to why we are seeing a larger then expected population of this rare DNA group in early Maryland and Virginia.
Are some of the Ruffin's Gypsy's of England? That now seems very plausable to me. Their DNA seems to also point in that direction.
One of the leading DNA companies seems to be agreeing with my theory that Y Haplo Group H in England are likely
English Romany / Gypsy's. And because 1 Mr. Ruffin with ties back to Virginia is in this rare DNA group, we have to now suspect his direct lineage to be of Gypy heritage.
If any Ruffin lineage can trace back to England / UK, I'd like to know where in England you can trace back to.
I'd also like to know if any other male Ruffin has DNA tested and is also in Y Haplo Group H.
Thanks
