I'm looking for the parents of Richard Wilcox and his wife Caroline A. Smith.
Richard Wilcox was born in New York about 1816 or 1817. He was in Michigan as early as 1839. He married Caroline A. Smith in December 1839 in Novi, Oakland County, Michigan. In Oakland County, Richard lived at various times in Milford, Novi, and Highland townships. He was a carpenter by trade. Around 1848, he and his family moved to Bingham, Clinton County, Michigan. Richard died in 1852 at age 37. Richard may have been elected township treasurer for the year 1852. Richard's widow, Caroline, married Minor Y. Beckwith shortly after his death, and moved to Lyons, Ionia County, Michigan. Minor Beckwith died in 1855. Caroline remained in Lyons, Ionia County, until 1867, when she moved to Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan, where she died in 1884.
Caroline A. Smith was born about 1823 (November) in New York, and was in Michigan as early as 1839. Her parents were natives of Vermont. I have found no record of her family being with her in Novi, Oakland County, Michigan. Family tradition, however, says she had brothers and sisters in Michigan, and that she is descended from an Israel Smith of Vermont. A descendant of Caorline's alleged brother William, who also lived in Saginaw, Michigan, also made the same claim, although I lost contact with that descendant.
Richard and Caroline had 6 children: George W. Wilcox (b. 1840), Charles F. Wilcox (b. 1842), John R. Wilcox (b. 1844), Adelbert Nelson Wilcox (b. 1846), Theoda Wilcox (b. 1849), and Delos Wilcox (b. 1851).
