"John Rumbarger was born in 1811 in Warriors Mark, Huntingdon County. He was one of 10 children. Rumbarger settled first in Armstrong County near Kittanning. Then, in 1865, he purchased the Heberling farm in Clearfield County. In 1872, he hired George C. Kirk to lay out lots for a town he named Rumbarger, & he advertised the lots for sale in the Clearfield & Brooksville papers. Coal miners & their families settled in this town."
