Dear Elaine,
My 2x Gt Grandfather was Edwin Rundle ( I have no middle name for him). He was the son of George Rundle c 1797 & Elizabeth Light. I have this info from Parish records. In the June quarter of 1852, in Plymouth, Edwin married Catherine Puleston c 1835. She was born in New Brompton,Chatham, Kent. I am positive that this is correct as my Grandfather had 'Puleston' as part of his name, being William Henry Puleston Rundle b 1895 in Exeter. I am also certain of my links to James Rundle and Jane King as I have twice visited a dear gentleman who is the church warden at Loddiswell, Devon and we have searched through some parish papers. I don't know an Edwin R or know of any links to Ugborough.
We must be reated if we share James & Jane, but not sure how. Will be pleased to hear from you again.
Best wishes
Christine

Hi Christine,
I am also descended from James Rundle and Elizabeth King but I'm sorry that I can go no further back than their marriage. Is your gg grandfather Edwin R. Rundle, son of William Rundle of Ugborough, Devon, and Mary (formerly Burt) nee Charley? If so, my gg grandmother is Edwin's sister, Elizabeth Ann Rundle b. 3, Whitecross Street, Plymouth,2.5.1856. She married William Charles Hookway 24.8.1879 at Stoke Damerel, Plymouth and she died 20.4.1894 aged 37 while expecting her 11th child.

I guess that makes us 3rd cousins!
Sorry I can't help you further,
Kind regards,
Elaine.

Hello Chris, Finally found out the father of John Veale, husband of Hannah Furze Veale. It was Oliver Veale born in 1737 and he was married to Ann Cuttins. He died in 1807 and I believe I sent you the picture of his tombstone attached to St. Leonards Church in Clawton... Ann was born in 1755 and I believe was his second wife. They had Elizabeth in 1785, John in 1786, Jenifer 1789, Ann in 1791, Thomas 1795, William in 1798, and Harriet in 1801.

I am the eldest granddaughter of Bethel A. (Rundle) Jefferson. My mother was her eldest daughter - Diane Theresa. I would like to know how to be in touch with whomever is now organizing the family reunion, and/or keeping the family history. Grandmom is passed (2 weeks ago, now) and my aunts and uncles just don't know as much about the family as I'd hoped. I have a copy of the history as written by Arlo Moss, and it is good, as far as it goes, but I would love to know more. I can be reached via email at dbaldwin107@gmail.com

I have a Thomas Tipper c1790 maybe in Dartmouth area, who married a Maria Rundle bap 4/10/1792 in Loddiswell Devon - I have seen the church records. Maria was a sister to my 3xGt Grandfather. Some of my Rundle family ancestors moved away from Loddiswell to Plymouth, Stoke Dameral being one of the areas of Plymouth where I have found them on census lists. Maybe the Tipper link continued into future generations but along a different branch to mine? I have no Richard Rundles on record as yet though.

I am looking at the same photo that you have described with written on the top "Texas Rangers in 1878. We are very familiar with the texas Rangers history and have gone into the State of Texas Archives in Austin and have found that not one single name on the photograph is listed as a Texas Ranger in any service of the Rangers especially the Frontier Battalion in which these so called Rangers would have been a menber of. Through Ranger archive records there are no records of any kind ---enlistment--pay vouchers---or discharge
records. Out of over 2,800 Frontier Battalion records in which they would have served (1874-1901) not one single member in the photo shows up on any company of Rangers rosters.

I believe the true identification of the period of time is indicated in the photograph showing Jim Glen second from left...holding a "Colt Lightning Pump Rifle." This particular Colt Rifle was manufactured from 1884-1902. So the photo could not have been made in 1878 with a rifle not manufactured until 1884. I BELIEVE THAT THE INDIVIDUALS IN THE PHOTO ARE CERTAINLY NOT TEXAS RANGERS AND THE PHOTO WAS NOT TAKEN IN 1878.

Jim Ryan
Frontier Battalion
Historical co.
I have done some tracking on my great grandmother Elizabeth Lavinia Rundle born in Devonport 1867. Her father was William Rundle, b 1843 a blacksmith born in Tywardreth married to Grace Dawe born in Botus Fleming 1845. So not the same family. William's father was Thomas Rundle born/baptised 1822 married Jane Beswetherick in 1843. Thomas had a brother William Rundle (maybe this is the connection) who was b. 1824 their father another William Rundle b 1793 married Elizabeth Bone 1821, his father Ambrose Rundle the younger married Margrett Horsken ets 1777. Next record we have shows Ambrose Rundle baptised Dec 17th 1726 son of Ambrose Rundle and Elizabeth.

Wondering if there is a common ancestor in John Rundle, born about 1796, who had many children, including William. In the England 1841 census, the family is listed as living in Egg Buckland, Devon. They emigrated to the US shortly thereafter. Some of the children of John Rundle and Susana Rundle were:

Dolly, Elizabeth, James, John, Louisa, Jane, William (b. about 1827 in Cornwall), Abram, Thomas Henry. All christened in Looe Bay.

RUNDLE - Egg Buckland - Devon

Looking for any information about Rundle family listed in 1841 England Census as follows:
John Rundle - age 45
Susanna Rundle (Austen?) - 45
James - 20
John - 20
Louisa - 15
Jane - 15
William - 14
Dolly - 13
Elizabeth - 11
Abraham - 6
Thomas Henry - 7 mos.

I know they (at least some of them) came to America shortly after the 1841 England census and wound up in Loda, Iroquois County, Illinois. Thomas Henry married Amanda M.F. Stroup and they had a child, John Moses Rundle (b. 1869). John Moses Rundle married Clara Moss, and they lived in Nance County, Nebraska. My father is one of the 14 children of John Moses and Clara Rundle.

I have no information about dates of departure from England of the family and who came and who, if anyone, stayed. I also have almost no reliable information about the John Rundle and Susanna (Austen?) before the 1841 census. So, anything at all that might help me with more details about the family in England pre-1841 would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Charles RUNDLE c. 1775

I have been trying to trace, so far without any success, the parents, siblings and ancestors of Charles Rundle who I believe was born somewhere in Cornwall. I have a suspicion that he was an Excise man, which could explain why he was in Wiveliscombe, Somerset where he married Grace Govier on 27 Nov 1797. They had at least three children and the two sons Henry and William were quite definitely Excise men, hence my suspicion. Their sister Elizabeth married a John Pyke.

Any leads or hunches, however slight, will be very much appreciated.

I have really only just started researching my tree and am getting confused with the number of Rundle families, and hope I have not followed a wrong line, however you seem to have done great research and possibly might have info.
My Great grandfather was a Charles Rundle B 1856 son of James Rundle/Susan Wyatt B 1814, son of James Rundle/Jenefer Glanvill B 1787 son of Richard Rundle/Elizabeth Truscott B 1752.

I think I have picked the right threads but with so many families having large and similar named children it's easy (for me anyway) to lose it!!!

Grateful for any info you may have.

Many thanks
Alison

Hello Martin,

I'm going to comment on some of your post for the benefit of others who may be researching this family.

You posted, "I did find some other census records relating to the Rundle family. In the 1861 census there is a record of William Rundle working as a smith and lodging in Tywardreath where he was also born. I think that it is probable that this was my great grandfather having left home."

There were multiple William Rundles in the area, but the one who was your great grandfather was a sail maker in 1861 as he was in subsequent census records. Here he is found in 1861 in Tywardreath at St Andrews Bridge living at home with his parents William and Elizabeth and siblings:
Enumeration District 8 (on two pages):

Civil Parish of Tywardreath, Eccl. District of -
Folio 91 Page 21
117,St Andrews Bridge,1,William Rundle,Head,M,45,,Smelter,Tywardreath Cornwall,,
,,,Elizabeth Rundle,Wife,M,,54,,Calstock Cornwall,,
,,,Jane Rundle,Dau,S,,24,Dressmaker,Tywardreath Cornwall,,
,,,Elizabeth Rundle,Dau,S,,21,Ag Lab,Tywardreath Cornwall,,

Folio 91 Page 22

,,,William Rundle,Son,S,17,,Sail Maker,Tywardreath Cornwall,,
,,,Robert Rundle,Son,S,8,,Scholar,Tywardreath Cornwall,,
,,,John Rundle,Son,S,7,,Scholar,Tywardreath Cornwall,,
,,,Thomas Rundle,Son,S,1,,,Tywardreath Cornwall,,

Referring to William Rundle (your great grandfather)'s wife Grace, "She has been given another name that looks like ‘Birgle’ but I have not found any other links." Her middle name was DINGLE, which was the surname of her father's mother.

You posted, "I also think that I have found William Rundle’s parental family in the 1851 census living in St Blazey, Cornwall. His father, also called William, a miner, married to Elizabeth. Their children called Angela, William, Samuel and Mary. They next appear in the 1871 census where William senior has been blinded from a powder explosion and working as a grocer, then finally in the 1891 census aged 75 and described as a blind and retired copper miner."

This is a different family. I will check my files for the Census records I have for the William and Elizabeth Rundle that are great great grandparents to you and my husband and post the info.

Too bad there were so many multiples of the same names in Cornwall. Makes our research quite a challenge :)
