I just received the death certificate for Elijah R. Julien. I have long suspected that his parents were the Samuel Julien/Julin who married Betsey Runyan in Warren Co., OH in 1827. His death certificate confirms it. I also suspect that his middle name might be Runyan, but I don't know that yet, for certain.

Runyan families in and around Los Angeles

I would like to contact any descendants of Gaylen/Galen Eugene Runyan, the son of Leon Burdette Runyan and Melva Runyan.
Leon was the son of Bert and Stella Porter Runyan and he was born in Sumner Co., KS. in 1907 and died in 1992 in El Monte CA.
After they divorced, Bert raised Leon by himself in the Wellington and Wichita KS areas.
Gaylen was born in 1926 and died in 2003 in Los Angeles Co. CA. He married 3 times, the last time in 1962 in Nevada to Lunetta Robbins.
I am wondering if Galen and Lunetta had any children, and if so I would like to contact them. They are related to my husband, whose line of Loves has multiple marriages into the Runyan line.
I have a MyFamily site with lots of photos, letters, documents, etc. that tie into both these lines and I would love to share them with any descendants of the above named families.

Shirley Love

I find the majority of the Runyan/Runyon/Runnions,etc.descend from Vincent Rognon/Roignon/Runyon who sailed to New Jersey from the isle of Jersey in the Channel Islands of the coast of France in the year 1664. He was a French Huguenot (Protestant) and it is believed the he came with Philip Carteret, firest governor of the new colony of New Jersey. You can find a lot of the family at the State Archives in Trenton, NJ. Vincent had four sons as well as some daughters and the secendants spread north, south, and west and now be found in almost every stat in the USA.

I have additional info on a Vincent Runyan born abt. 1645 in Poitiers, Vienne, France and died on 1 Dec 1713. He married Ann Martha Boucher born abt 1649 in Herts, England. They had one known child; Peter Runyan born 1 Jul 1680 in Piscataway, NJ. He married a Providence Blackford (b. abt. 1683 in Piscataway, NJ) and they had a son; Benjamin (b. 21 Dec 1729 in Pascataway, NJ, he died 3 Nov 1785 in NJ)

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated
I am interested in contacting any member of the family of Leon B. Runyan, b. 1908, Sumner Co. KS. He is the son of Burt and Stella Porter Runyan. He was raised by his father and lived for a while in Wellington and Wichita KS. His last known address ca. 1985 was in Elmonte CA. on Rush St.
Information shows that Leon married a woman named Melva, but that is not verified, and I have no further information.
I believe his father remarried to a woman named Helen, possibly Bradshaw.
Burt Runyan was a cousin of my husband's father and we have a myfamily space devoted to Love/Runyan families, and we have worlds of information, photos, documents, etc. to share with family members.
This line of Runyans stem from Benjamin Runyan 1779, Yates Co. NY and Hannah Bostwick 1776, also Yates Co. through their son, Nathanial b. 1808 Yates Co. NY, and Phebe Cookingham who were married in 1832 and moved to New London, Huron Co. OH.
If you have any information about Leon, or any of the descendants of Benjamin or Nathaniel, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Shirley Love

Almeda Runyan Parsons, b.1855, wife of Uel R. Parsons, of Richland Co., OH

I have two original Cabinet Card photographs of “Mr. Uel Robinson Parsons” and “Mrs. Almeda Runyan Parsons”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photos were taken in about early 1880, in Mansfield (Richland Co.) OH. On the backs of each photo is the statement “United with First Congregational Church, Mansfield, O on April 4, 1868.”

1883 Mansfield, OH directory shows Uel R. parsons as a bookkeeper. And 1900 Mansfield census shows Almeda Parsons, a widow, DOB May 1855, living with her daughter Mary U. Parsons (b.1884) and Mary E. Runyan, her sister (b.1859).

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Uel R. Parsons or Almeda Runyan Parsons.

Lucinda Runyan, b.1823, wife of B. L. Runyan, lived Mansfield (Richland Co.) OH

I have an original Cabinet photograph of “Lucinda Runyan”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. The information on the back of this photo is marvelous: “Mrs. Lucinda Runyan, born March 1, 1823; died Jan 4, 1886 – United with First Congregational Church, Mansfield, O. May 14, 1847. Return to Miss Runyan”. Photo was taken in about 1885, in Mansfield, OH, and she looks to be about age 60-65.

I found Lucinda in the 1850 census for Mansfield, age 25, married to a merchant, B. L. Runyan, age 28. Children were John 4, and Charles 2. In 1870 and 1880 Mansfield, she had a son (Meade or Merle, unreadable) and daughters Almeda and Mary.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Lucinda Runyan.

Looking for info on Samuel JULIEN (Julian / Julin) who married Betsey RUNYON (Runyan) in Warren COunty, OH 25 Oct 1827. I believe this to be the Samuel and Elizabeth Julien living in Vermillion County, IN in 1850 and 1860. Here is what I know for certain about these folks:

Samuel Julien b. 1806 - 08 in OH, d. 1860 - 80
Elizabeth Julien b. 1807 - 09 in OH or VA, d. after 1880
Their children:
Mary Jane b. 1832 in IN
Elizabeth A. b. July 1834 in IN
Elijah R. b. 1 June 1841 Independence (Warren Co) IN,
d. 10 Nov. 1915
Lovina b. 1842 in IN
Margaret b. 1846 in IN
Francis Marion b. 1848 in IN

There may have been two older children:
William b. 1829 in IN
Dorcas Ellen b. 1830 in IN
Both of these had married into the Starkey family and were living near Sameul and Elizabeth in 1850.

I can't find Samuel or Elizabeth in 1870. In 1880, Elizabeth is listed as Mary Elizabeth, mother, widow, aged 76, b. in VA, and living with Elijah and his family.

Sure hope that someone can help me with these lines. There are SO MANY Juliens and Runyans in southwestern Ohio around the 1820's. It's hard to know where these folks fit in (IF they fit in)!

Thanks!
Ben F Runyan dies as prisoner of war in Philippines

Benjamin F. Runyan of Clinton, Indiana in Vermillion County was captured during the initial stages of World War II in the Philippines. He was born in 1923 and enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis. He was in the 31st Infantry Regiment and died as a POW at Camp 4 "O-Donel) in Tarlac, Philippines on Luzon Island, May 8, 1942. He is buried at Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines.

On our intial visit to the Manila American cemetery we had an instant realization that few families had ever visited these graves. I wondered if we could find a few families of these men. I took a handful of photos of the white crosses with the inscriptions and returned to our home. Weeks late we located our first family. Since that time we have fortunately been able to contact 150 families of Indiana servicemen killed in this region during World War II. Additionally we have located another forty across America despite our Indiana focus.

We hope you can help us find the family of Benjamin F. Runyan. Here is some information we have including a reference we located at the Indiana State Library. We only have the reference information and not the actual contents of the newspaper notice. We hope you can help us find this also.

Please visit our website and see photos and information about hundreds of Indiana servicemen. If you are a friend, neighbor or relative of any of the men honored here at Manila American Cemetery, we will gladly send photos if we possibly can. The photos are always free.

http://fizkid.tripod.com/

Dave and Apple Dwiggins
San Pablo City, Philippines

An Indentured Servant of Benjamin Runyan

I'm currently researching a possible Ancestor of mine, Amos Reed. I came across this newspaper extract (see below) in "New Jersey Colonial Documents" and want to find more information about this Benjamin Runyan. I think the "subscriber" in this extract is Benjamin Runyan born around 1750 who married Rebecca Barton. This is just a guess based on a few hours of internet/ancestry.com searching . . . and I definitely welcome other thoughts. Basically, I was wondering if anyone has info on Benjamin's "property," or if/where I could begin to search for this. I think the Amos Reed in the extract was an indentured servant that did not complete his contract (and as I mentioned before, may or may not be my ancestor, but I have to look anyway).

"Amwell, in Hunterdon county, Feb. 18, 1771. RUN AWAY from the subscriber, an apprentice boy named AMOS REED, about twenty years of age, thick set, about five feet seven inches high, black hair generally tied behind, brown complexioned, lively spirited, pretty much given to drink; had on when he lincey, plate buttons, a streaked lincey lapelled jacket without lining, with buttons covered with the same, a pair of new buckskin breeches a little sullied with his working in them, he being a shoemaker by trade, a felt hat more than half worn, with a large metal button, blue and white stockings that has been footed, a pair of double soaled shoes, and a new home-spun shirt. Whoever brings home said servant, or secures him in any gaol, so that his master shall have him again, shall have twenty shillings reward per me. Benjamin Runyan."

Thank you so much for your time!
Devin Olivares-Reed

George Washington Runyan

George Washington Runyan and Hattie Lee Stokes were common-law parents of Clarence who was born in 1916 in Decatur, Tennessee. The "delayed" birth certificate said both parents to be 28yrs at Clarences birth which would mean George was born in 1888 (Hattie also). Also showed George as a farmer and Hattie a housewife. George left his wife and son for parts unknown to us. Hattie had a brother in Tennessee by the name of Alton....possibly a sister Laurie also.

Re: Runyan, old photos of unknown Runyan's

Where were your Runyans located? We also have several photos, some of them unidentified, of our Runyans who were in New London, Huron Co. OH. They were the children of Nathaniel Runyan and Phebe Cookingham. Nathaniel's parents were Benjamin and Hannah Bostwick Runyan. They lived in Penn Yan, Milo, NY in the early 1800's.
If you could e-mail copies of your photos that are not identified, I could compare them to the ones I have.
We have two ties to this Runyan family. Edwin Runyan married Alida Love. He was a casualty of the Civil War. His sister, Phebe married Jeremiah Love, Alida's brother. Phebe and Jeremiah were my husband's ggrandparents.
Shirley Love
