Hi- I'm late to the party, but I heard that the Boutcher's immigrated from France, they were Hugeonots. They ended up in Canada near Montreal. Pierre Boutcher founded the city of Boutcherville (now a suberb of Montreal).

google the town and you will get a lot of info. Later the Boutcher's founded Baptist churches in the US area.

I cannot remember where I got this info. Sorry.

AS the Boutchers emigrated south, the name changed and they finally became the Butchers.

I would also love the 40 pgs of Runyon history.

e-mail me at giollab@aol.com

I'm descended from the Pikeville Runyons thrugh Nancy Jane Runyon m.
Claiborn County seems to be a central location for a lot of the "Runions, Runion, Runyon" families. I can't find a reference to John in any of my research. Hezekiah's sons were George W., Charles Wesley, and daughter Mary Polly, but no information on their mother. I have lists of George W. and Andrew Winton's children if you are interested, but still no mention of John.

I do have three names of Hezekiah's children: George Washington, Charles Wesley, and Mary Polly. They were listed as his heirs and granted 75 acres of land in Pornel Run, Claiborne County, in 1824.

My 3rd gr grandfather is John Runions who first appears in the Sevier County, TN 1830 Census. He was born in NC in 1800, but I haven't been able to go back past him. Claiborne Co. is close to Sevier Co, TN. He and his family remain in Sevier/Knox/Jefferson Counties TN through current days. These 3 counties all intersect, so they probably remained in the same area, just change in County boundaries. Could these folks be related? Do you have any info on my John or folks related to your Hezekiah?

Hezekiah Runions was my ancestor, also. From some research, I found that the name Runions could have originally come from the French Rougnions, and obviously morphed eventually into Runyon in the 1920's. Can't find anything earlier about Hezekiah, though, or who his wife was.

Re: Phebe Runyon 1784 (Somerset, NJ) - 1842 (Paw Paw, IL)

Thanks, Fred, for the update on your search. That helps me validate that 1) I'm not missing anything obvious and 2) that the other Phebe Runyon (1784-1804, wife of Daniel, daughter of Enoch and Rachel)of Middlesex County, NJ, so often seen in others' records, is not the correct one.

One of my grandmothers was a Breese (descended from Bailey and Phebe) and Vincent is a recurring given name in our line. We have snippets of family history that also say that Phebe's father was also named Vincent, but nothing written down in a family Bible or other family records that I've seen so far. Definitely nothing that would prove such a connection.

Interesting on the possible sister named Rachel as that name also appears in our line - may just be a coincidence, though - since Rachel was a popular name back then.

I like your take on the land transactions. Bailey Breese was involved in the buying and selling of land around Chicago, IL and Paw Paw, IL - according to a book called The History of Lee County, IL. I got the feeling from reading passages from this book that he had been doing land deals for a while and that he liked to deal with family and/or friends whenever possible. Buying land from his father-in-law would seem consistent to his established practice.

Since you have been working on this for 5 years and have had good access to NJ records, I doubt I will find anything you have not already seen. Still, I am pretty good at finding scraps of information from out of the way corners of the internet. If I find anything of use, I'll post it back here.

Again, thanks! Please let me know if you get a breakthrough on this one.

Re: Phebe Runyon 1784 (Somerset, NJ) - 1842 (Paw Paw, IL)

Yuh! Phebe Runyon that married Bailey Brees on Sept. 11th 1809 as shown in the records of the Metuchen Presb. Ch., I assume that they where married by the Minister of that church, but where married in Somerset Co. As you mentioned, she is a mystery. I came across a Somerset Co., NJ deed at the the NJ Archives early this year, where a Vincent Runyon sold a parcel of land Bernards Twp. to Baily Breese on the 7th day of January 1826. The long shot is that Phebe could have been the daughter of this Vincent. The only Vincent that come to my mind and fits the dates, is the son Reune and Unknown and grandson of Resiah and Zerviah Martin the youngest son of Vincent Jr. and Mary Hull. A Vincent, is named in the will of a Reune Runyon who died in Woodbridge in 1786. There was a Vincent Runyon listed as a Rev. War soldier in Somerset Co., also a Vincent Runyon listed as part of the 1793 Militia record of male elibiable for military duty, aged 35. Plus Phebe had a brother named Israel who was a saddler in Basking Ridge and possibly a sister Rachel who married Nicholas Sedam and moved to Rock Island, IL. The above info is part of the puzzle that I have been looking to piece together for about five years and so far I haven't had much luck, so it's just a lead for now.

Sincerely,
Fred Runyon

Phebe Runyon 1784 (Somerset, NJ) - 1842 (Paw Paw, IL)

Hello,

I am trying to find a connection to the ancestors of Phebe Runyon (spouse surname: Breese). According to family history, she is supposed to be descended from Vincent Roungion an Ann Boutcher. According to their respective dates, however, I am missing 2 or 3 generations to make that connection.

In my searches to date, I have found 2 different persons named Phebe Runyon but their dates and spouses have not been a match.

This Phebe Runyon was born 11 March 1784 in the Somerset, NJ area. According to family history, Bayles (Bailey) Breese met her in the Bernardsville, NJ area and married her in 1809. Bayles was from the Basking Ridge area.

The couple had 9 children, two of which were Vincent R. Breese (1815-1894) and Ann Breese (1817-1888), supposedly named to honor the ancestors mentioned above.

According to "The History of Lee County" (IL), Bayles moved the family to Paw Paw, IL in 1840 or 1841. Phebe died on 1 April 1842 in the Paw Paw area and is buried in the East Paw Paw Cemetery.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSsr=41...;

Since I have not had any luck finding Phebe's parents, I decided (without result) to try to find Phebe by searching the Runyon line from Vincent and Ann. Unfortunately, every line I can find to trace does not connect correctly to this Phebe.

Is there anyone out there with the correct ancestry information for this Phebe? Thanks in advance for your help!

I believe the married name of Richard Runyon's daughter Anna (1784–1869) is a transcription error. The name in this abstract of the will is "Anna Toratt". Anna married Enos Fouratt (1773–1836) abt 1800 in Piscataway. The "F" could easily be misread as "T", and the name Fouratt has many spellings.

Looking for info on Hezekiah Runions. Posted before in 2004. Trying to connect Hezekiah to Vincent Roignan. Hezekiah lived NC in the late 1700's, but died in Claiborne County, TN abt 1820. Also, looking for his wife's name. Anything is appreciated. Thanks again.
Terrie Gee

Bess,
I just read this post from you and am not sure that I have answered it. Was thinking about you the other day as I came across the Hiners in the Iowa Census (the State census) seems like it was 1856. If you you don't have the Iowa State Censuses on your Ancestry I will see that you get it.) And yes I have come onto more Information about William nee Dewitt Atherton. I have found a second marriage record for him, and possibly a third (I don't think the 3d is he as there were 2 Williams Athertons in Des Moines.) I found a death record for him as well and will send all of this to you via snail mail if you send along your address. I have not found a death record for Josephine, but I think you mentioned one. If she died while they were married it had to be between 1900 and and July 11, 1901.

What a fabulous job you have done on your ancestry. My Runyons branched off from yours in the third generation from Vincent, but I did enjoy seeing the site. I found your response on this Runyon when I was searching for a George W. Runyon b.abt 1860 d. 1934 in Jefferson Co. OH. I copied some of the names of children in early generations and will of course give you credit. Thanks for sharing your site. Nancy Smith

JULIEN / JULIAN / RUNYON / RUNYAN

Looking for info on Samuel JULIEN (Julian / Julin) who married Betsey RUNYON (Runyan) in Warren COunty, OH 25 Oct 1827. I believe this to be the Samuel and Elizabeth Julien living in Vermillion County, IN in 1850 and 1860. Here is what I know for certain about these folks:

Samuel Julien b. 1806 - 08 in OH, d. 1860 - 80
Elizabeth Julien b. 1807 - 09 in OH or VA, d. after 1880
Their children:
Mary Jane b. 1832 in IN
Elizabeth A. b. July 1834 in IN
Elijah R. b. 1 June 1841 Independence (Warren Co) IN,
d. 10 Nov. 1915
Lovina b. 1842 in IN
Margaret b. 1846 in IN
Francis Marion b. 1848 in IN

There may have been two older children:
William b. 1829 in IN
Dorcas Ellen b. 1830 in IN
Both of these had married into the Starkey family and were living near Sameul and Elizabeth in 1850.

I can't find Samuel or Elizabeth in 1870. In 1880, Elizabeth is listed as Mary Elizabeth, mother, widow, aged 76, b. in VA, and living with Elijah and his family.

Sure hope that someone can help me with these lines. There are SO MANY Juliens and Runyans in southwestern Ohio around the 1820's. It's hard to know where these folks fit in (IF they fit in)!

Thanks!
Athens County Ohio Runyon Family

Does anyone have any information on the Runyon Family in Athens County Ohio? My Grandmother, Ida Louise Runyon (b. 7/10/1938, d.5/18/1961) died when my father, Terry Garner (b. 7/10/1959) was only 2. She was married to Floyd Garner (b. 3/24/1932, d. 4/26/1988). Her Father is Nick Runyon (b. 12/16/1903 in KY?, d. 10/20/1983 in Nelsonville, OH) and my dad thinks her mothers name was Della. I seem to be drawing a blank on this one. If anyone has any information, I'd appreciate it.
