Hi Adam, we are Mark and Lois Ruplinger from the St. Kilian, Wisconsin area, we are the decendents of Nicholas and Katherine nee Sartor Ruplinger, which is Nicholas 2nd wife. Do you know your great-grandfathers full name and who his siblings were or even his wifes name? The Allenton, Wis. Fire Department is looking for a picture of a Peter Ruplinger who was a Fire Chief in the early 1900's they want to put his picture up with the other Fire Chiefs, do you think by chance he would be the one they are looking for? Here is my home email marrup60@msn.com Thank you, Lois

Hello, we are decendents of Peter Joseph Ruplinger, we do not have a picture as of now of him, but we are a large family and we are of the St. Kilian area. We will keep our eyes and ears open for you. We maybe can follow his decendents and see if anyone has a picture of him later in life. Lois

Hi Ruplinger Clan,

I am the second great grand nephew of Mary Anna Ritger, Michael Ruplinger's wife (Adam's Great, Great Grandfather. I have a fair amount of Ruplinger info as I am the historian for the Allenton Fire department and the first (father, John) and second (son, Peter Joseph) chief were Ruplingers. Peter Joseph Ruplinger and Peter Leo Ruplinger (Adam's Great Grandfather) were first cousins and of course John and Michael were brothers. At one point I was not sure which Peter was the chief as both had moved away from the area after the great 1910 Allenton fire so my research for some time tracked both of them. I also have a Kilian Ruplinger married to one of my German ancestors. I have not tied him into the larger Ruplinger group on my mother’s side but my daughter’s best friend Melissa Ruplinger is related there. Let me know if I can be of any help. I have some information on the father and grandfather of the Nicholas born in 1796 and should be a good resource for the Ruplingers in the Washington County Wisconsin area.

Jay German
Hello,
My name is Adam W. Ruplinger. I am a descendant of Nikolaus Rupplinger from Germany. I have been to see the original Rupplinger house located in Weilingen Germany, right on the border where Germany, France and Luxembourg come together. I have two young sons named Nikolas and Alexander Ruplinger. My Ruplinger family branch is the one that ended up in California. My Father is Michael K. Ruplinger, my grand father was Paul E. Ruplinger. My great grandfather was Peter Ruplinger, all of San Diego, California. If I remember right, Pete's father was Michael Ruplinger. Pete was up in Wisonsin originally. He was one of the first people to have an automobile up there. Eventually he migrated to California, where most of my immediate family was located until the early 1990's. Today most of that Ruplinger branch from Pete Ruplinger is now up in Utah. If you are interested I can provide more detailed information.

Ripplinger / Ruplinger ~ same name?

I recently found an 1870 census for one of my ancestors, Anna May Ripplinger, and found her dad to be dead, but they were having kids from 1856 to 1865 In Michigan so I knew he would be on the 1860 census. I used one of the siblings, and found in 1860, their name was spelled Ruplinger.

I am certain with this, because all family members live in the same place in both censuses, their place of birth is the same for each, and all have the same year, or one year off. most of the names are excact also, except the mothers, which is a similar name, and the oldest daughter which also has a similar name. - Go check it out if you want.

1860 - http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1860usfedcenan...

1870 - http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1870usfedcen&a......

Please leave comments - Thanks!
I hope you and your family are well, and if you see my grandma before I do, tell her that I'm doing great in Seattle, so she doesn't need to worry.
Hope to hear from you soon!

Welcome to the Ruplinger Message Board

This is the initial posting to the Ruplinger Message Board. I am particularly interested in the history, descent, and migration of Ruplinger family members who emigrated from the Saarland area of Germany (right along the border with French Lorraine) to Wisconsin in the 1840s. The leader of this clan was Nicholas Ruplinger (b1796 in Wellingen, Saar, Germany; d.1863, Slinger, Washington County, WI), who came and settled near West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin in 1846 with his third wife, Madeleine Wahlen. This family seems to have been very fertile and so I believe there are many many descendents around the United States today. Descendent migrations that I am familiar with include: to Manitowoc and Wood Counties, Wisconsin; and to California. I am eager to make contact with, and exchange information, with any interested parties.

If I have my records straight, this makes us half-second cousins four times removed. Nicholas Ruplinger (1796-1863) was my fifth-great grandfather, and whereas you are descended from his second wife Katherine Sartor, I am descended from his third wife Madeleine Wahlen. A granddaughter of his and the third wife was Mary Anna Ruplinger (b. 1863 near West Bend, d.1941 in Wisconsin Rapids); she moved to Manitowoc County to marry a John Casper, from whom I am descended. I have a picture of her. Do you have any pictures of any of the oldest of the line, or any pictures of old houses, homesteads, farms, etc.?

I'm not sure I should take away all of your fun or not--but the Ruplinger family line is one of the most extensively documented lines I've seen on the internet. I think you'll find the answer to many of your questions on the website of a very very distant German cousin at http://www.e-pese.de You'll have to read the website carefully as most of the index is in German but it's not too hard to figure out. Also be sure to look at spelling variants, e.g., Replinger, Rupplinger, etc. Happy hunting.

It took me a little bit to take your information and piece it with mine, but your husband is my half fourth cousin twice removed. Whew! Our common ancestor is Nikolaus Ruplinger (23 July 1796-30 November 1863). Your husband is descended from his second wife Katherine Sartor, I from his third wife (Madeleine Wahlen), thus the "half". Nikolaus Ruplinger was my fifth great grandfather, more specifically, my mother's father's mothers' mother's mother's father's father. My branch's migration pattern: left Washington County (Wis.) in the 1870s for Manitowoc County, thence to near Marshfield, Wood County, Wiscosin by about 1882. I still have relatives in the Marshfield area. Email me privately if you would like to compare more notes.

Hi Hayley,

I don't know if you were aware of it but your parents weren't the first German that married a Ruplinger. Your dad's grandfather Paul had a sister Mary. Your mother's great-grandfather John had a brother Kilan. Mary and John were married at Saint Kilian Church (Ashford), Feb. 04, 1892. As a point of reference we are fourth cousins. We share common great, great grand parents George Anton and Catherine (Straub) German.

Jay German
Allenton

Elmer is the son of Joseph and Alma(Weiland) Ruplinger, Joseph is the son of John T. and Barbra(Smasal) Ruplinger
John T. Ruplinger-B: December 23,1863
Joseph Herman Ruplinger-B: December 7,1893
Elmer John Ruplinger-B: August 24, 1920
Mark Harold Ruplinger B: October 14,1954
Mark had no children and he was the only child for Elmer and Charlotte.
We do believe we are related to the other Ruplingers in Iowa and California and other states due to what you had said they were very fertile, for some of the familys for them to have 10 to 12 children was not unusual. Hope to hear from you about how you fit into the Ruplingers, you have a good week. Lois (Fenske) Ruplinger.
I am a member of the Allenton Volunteer Fire Department and we are attempting to locate a photograph of Allenton's first fire chief Peter Ruplinger. We have photographs of all the chiefs hanging in our station with the exception of Chief Ruplinger's. The problem is we have very little information on just who he was for sure. The fire department was founded in 1909 and most of Allenton was destroyed in 1910 by a fire. There are very few records of any kind before 1921 about the time the next fire chief was elected. Peter Joseph Ruplinger b. May 11, 1877 and Peter Leo Ruplinger b. July 8, 1878 were the only two Peter Ruplingers I could track down That were from the area at that time. They are first cousins and both are about the right age. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

The best I can offer in the way of pictures etc would be a publication called "Winding Through the Town of Wayne 1848-1998: 150 anniversary". You might contact John Van Haden at www.washcowis.com for a copy or the LDS library. My goal is to find the exact area from which they all came. The search goes on.
