He is married to Sarah Harmon, though.

My wife's grandparents were Joseph Michael Rush and Mildred Grace Rush (nee Lefferts). They had five sons: Richard Adelbert Rush, Edward LeRoy Rush, Herbert Dale Rush, Joseph Elwin Rush, and Fletcher W. Rush (my wife's father).

According to our records, Joseph Michael Rush was born in South Danville, Illinois on December 9, 1890. Mildred Grace Lefferts was born in Casnovia, Michigan on February 8, 1895.

We are seeking information about the parents of Joseph Michael Rush, who apparently were Joseph M. Rush (or Royse) and Mary Jane Edwards. Joseph M. Rush (or Royse) apparently had a brother named Walter Royse.

Thank you.

My mother, Hazel Moore's, grandmother was Minvera Rush, and eldest dau. of Henry Rush SR - apparently, Henry had 3 wives and ended up with about 13 children. Henry Rush lived in Cananl Winchester, OH and originally was from PA, but not sure what location specifically. There is a connection to Benjamin Rush, but probably his brother, Jacob Rush in or around 1800's.

If interested, email me at checa303@gmail.com and/or my cell at 505-870-1855. Minerva Rush married Samuel F. Moore in 1888. I have a 15 X 18 marriage certificate and attached picture. Based on my research, I found out that we are related to Benjamin Rush's brother, Jacob Rush. Been fasinated with the Rush, Moore, and Karn's for over 15 years.
As near as I can tell, all of these Rush individuals were related. I went through the entire 1850 census and that's what I think.

Now, Rachel Rush, in 1850 states she was born in SC. I believe she was Rachel Springer before her marriage. In 1820, Benjamin Rush was enumerated adjacent to Ezekiel Springer. He was either Rachel's father or brother (I forgot to check his age.) I have a copy of Benjamin and Rachel Rush's Bible family page. There is no Hannah. However, Benjamin had brothers, I think, as follows:

From the Internet (not proven):
Name: James RUSH
Surname: Rush
Given Name: James
Sex: M
Birth: ABT 1750
Note: In 1820 James lived in Monroe Co., KY (page 217) (000001 02001) and again in 1830 (page 389 ) (0000-00001 0000-00001).
Father: James RUSH
Marriage Molly SIMPSON b: ABT 1762 in Va
Married: ABT 1781 in Va
Children
Benjamin RUSH b: 16 Jul 1782 in NC c: in Methodist, near Tomkinville, KY
Sarah RUSH b: ABT 1784 in Va
Liddia RUSH b: ABT 1790 in Va
James RUSH b: ABT 1792 in Va
William RUSH b: ABT 1794 in Va
Grace RUSH b: ABT 1798 in Va
Joshua RUSH b: 1798/1799 in TN

Joshua, William and James were in Monroe County, KY in 1820 along with Benjamin. My suggestion would be to track Benjamin's brothers. Any one of the three could be Hannah's father. Perhaps their wills would be a great place to start, if you can find where they died.

Keep me posted as to how your search is going and I'll continue looking. I believe once you establish which of the men was Hannah's father I will have additional information for you from Virginia. My Benjamin Rush was born in 1759 in Virginia and he had a brother James for whom I have no information. I'm thinking this James might be him.

My email address if you wish to contact me directly is adonn4life@aol.com

If you have access to the 1850 Monroe Co., KY census, check to see what other Rush family members lived there. If you find any, jot them down and let me know who they were. I have a very large Rush data base and would be glad to check to see if I have anything.

Five of your names match names of John's and Elizabeth's children, Jeremiah, Benjamin, Joseph, William and John. Does this mean anything? I don't know, but it's something to think about.

Another thought I had is, I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and do a lot of research for others here. Many families passed through on their way to places South and West. One of them was a German family from PA who changed the spelling of their name to Rush. Washington County is, of course, in the Shenandoah Valley. You might try looking at that family.

I seem to remember also reading somewhere that Jeremiah Rush came riding into Washington County, VA alone and no other Rush family members except his children and their families ever lived there. Have you ever seen such a comment?

In the back of my mind, I can't help but think your Jeremiah is the same as my Jeremiah but we must do some searching to prove it.

Scott,

Wish I could say outright that I have info for you but I can't.

What I do have is a Jeremiah Rush who was named as one of the children of John and Elizabeth Rush of Madison County, VA. I can't find anything else about him.

This causes me to wonder if your Jeremiah might just be my Jeremiah. Give me some names of children so I can compare them with what I have, or if you want I'll send you the names of his siblings. There were eleven of them.

I have searched my database and do not have a Jacob born about 1824. However, while searching, I thought about the German Rush family that came into the Shenandoah Valley very early. One of the men in that family was Johan Jacob Rush. You might want to search in the Rockingham County area to see if any of this family had a Jacob who was born in 1824 in Hawkins County, TN. I believe the German spelling of the name may have been Rousch.

I believe Isaac Rush is the son of Crawford and Mary Broyles (Briles) Rush who moved to North Carolina from Virginia about 1771. This Crawford is not the Crawford who remained in Virginia who was married to Elizabeth McAlister.

However, I might have some information to help you on this. I have a pretty extensive database of Rush family members, most with documentation, going back to William who married Ann Gray by 1658.
Hello…we are trying to find my husband’s grandfather, Charles Skinner. There is a Cooper Skinner who, along with his wife, Elizabeth is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak. Cooper died in 1919. The 1880 federal census shows a son, Charles who was born in Indiana around 1870…the family farmed in Reno, Kansas.

They were in the 1885 Iowa census living in the Red Oak area…Am not sure that this Charles is the correct ancestor. Can’t seem to track Charles between 1885 and 1900 when he (someone named Charles Skinner, born @ 1870 in Indiana) shows up in Oregon. However, he reports to the census that his father was born in Ohio and his mother was born in Indiana…and it appears that the Red Oak Elizabeth (Rush)Skinner was born in Ohio…so that is a puzzlement!

Any help you can send is appreciated.

Laurie Moore Skinner
Thank you so much! That's what my research had led me to believe. I had been working on that assumption. However, I recently received an email from a lady who stated that her Rush ancestors were from the line of the Benjamin Rush that signed the Declaration of Independence. She further stated that she had documented this line, complete with brothers/sisters and all their children, and there was never a Gittings/Gettings in the line anywhere. She didn't provide proof of any of this, but it did make me wonder if, perhaps, I had made an error in my research at some point. Thank you for clearing that up for me!

These
siblings were born in Virginia, beginning in the mid-1700s, probably in
or near Madison County.

Yesterday I found a document which, with another document I already
had, proved they were siblings and who there parents were. My ancestor
is the Benjamin above.

Her query was sent directly to the email list, not through the RootsWeb forum, so I'm repeating it here.

Later, Paul Manly wrote:

I am descended from Crawford through his son John and his son James J.
Would love to have more info on Crawford & siblings.

Paul, I too am descended from Crawford (1720-1799), but through Isaac (1762-1783), about whom I know nearly nothing. However, many of the names Agnes mentions don't show up in my file, so I wonder if we're talking about the same family. On the other hand, there can't be all that many Virginians named Crawford Rush.
Re: Rush DNA

I would be interested in participating in a Rush DNA project. The Rain(e)s group (my mother's line) has a very active DNA project going, but that doesn't help me much.

Y-DNA is passed from father to son down through the generations (just like surnames). Miitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is passed from mother to daughter and sons, but the sons become mtDNA dead ends and do not pass it on. The upshot is that DNA . A three-year-old article says "Perhaps the most important aspect of mtDNA to grasp is that it's essentially a deep ancestry test, and is not as genealogically useful as Y-DNA."

If a Rush DNA project has been set up, please post the details of how to participate.

Jeremiah Rush (+/- 1774)

I'm trying to find out the historical lineage of Jeremiah Rush. He was born in +/- 1774 in PA and died in Washington Co., Virginia. He married Hannah Campbell in 1794. Ancestory.com suggests that his father was Michael Rush but I cannot confirm this. It has no posted info regarding his mother. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks -

Scott Levitt
