Hi Dee & Don: Although I am not directly related to this Cargo / Rusk thread; I have been following along. My intersts are in the B,M,D, of all Rusk / Ruske families from Ireland. Robert T. Bell; another interested party, also added an Ellenor Cargo b. 20 Sep 1818 at Carmoney,
Antrim. Robert has also added specific b. dates for the other children of the Cargo / Rusk marriage. Look fwd to any comments you may have. gruske@shaw.ca
Yours Aye, Grant Ruske.

Don: per my Cargo family tree information Susanna's mother died in 1935 while she and James were on their way across the Atlantic. James died in Albion (now call Caledon), Peel co., Ontario, Ca. I did not have Robert or Samuel in my list of Children. The children I have listed are Jane, born in Ireland in 1819, Agnes, born in Ireland in 1821, Elzabeth born in Ireland in 1823, Susannah born in Ireland in 1825, another James born in Ireland in 1826, Margaret born in Ireland in 1829 , Hugh born in Ireland in 1834 and William born in Ireland in 1835.
James (the father) married Ann Montgomery Pendleton, b. Ireland 1812. She died in Scarborough, Ontario Canada on 13 September 1865. They had 8 children, of these I only know 5: George Albert Cargo (my husband's ggrandfather) born 10 Oct 1840, Margaret b. 1843, Mary Ann b. 1845, Charles James b. 1852 and Henry b. 1854. These children were all born in Canada.
I have further information on this tree and can be contacted at lorriedee703@yahoo.com
Elizabeth Rusk/Joshua Polk married 1788

I'm looking for information about an Elizabeth Rusk, who married a Joshua Polk (Joshua Polk born abt 1741 MD) in 1788, I believe in Maryland, but not sure. I know Elizabeth Rusk Polk died before 1810, because Joshua was already remarried to an Elizabeth Williams, by who he had his first child, Elizabeth in 1810 in Maryland. Joshua Polk and second wife, Elizabeth Williams Polk and three or four kids migrated from Maryland around 1827 to Highland County, OH, where they both died. (Joshua Polk's third wife was Margaret Paine, born in Ohio.)

Joshua Polk and second wife, Elizabeth Williams had a son they named Joshua Whittington Polk, born 1812 Maryland.
In the History of Highland County, OH, it states that Joshua Polk was a descendant of Benjamin Polk and Sarah nee Whittington Polk, Benjamin Polk being a son of Robert and Magdalen Tasker Polk. Have more information if interested.

Becki
beckiblair@hotmail.com

POW/MIA Korean War, RUSK

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Lansing, Michigan as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: RICHARD GEORGE LEROY RUSK
Born: December 12, 1927
Date of loss: October 16,`952 KIA
608yh Air Control,502nd Troop Carrier Group

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Rusk family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Re: DODDS, CARGO, RUSK, TAYLOR Families

My information is that Thomas Taylor and Susanna Cargo were married on 24 th october 1839 at Ballygrainey near Bangor. This is from a contemporary newspaper entry (and also church record). But,according to this,Susannah was the second daughter of an Alexander Cargo.Thomas and Susannah went on to have several children baptised at Ballygilbert Presbyterian Church. The earliest there was Lavinia who was baptized on 20th October 1841,followed by Edward,Elizabeth,Rachel,James Alexander,Thomas and Grace.Interestingly, I am actually looking for a record of the birth/baptism of a Sarah Taylor whose father was Thomas and I think that this is the right Thomas OK but no proof. Is it definite that Thomas and Susannah lived near Carnmoney? There IS a townland called Ballyrobert near Carnmoney but the Taylors that I have lived in a townland of the same name near Bangor.
as you probably know,Rachel was baptized on 12th Feb 1848 and was married on 4th Nov 1868 at Ballygilbert.Thomas was a carpenter by trade.I have transcribed Rachel's husband's name as Doddy.
Let me know if any of the above is useful please.
Nuala

You may know this by now, but Hugh Rusk was married to Hulda McCallister. ("Death records from Alleghany County, Virginia and other nearby counties 1849-1897," Virginia E. Smith, Athens, Ga. : Iberian Pub. Co., c1999. at page 12.) Mary Jane McCallister was Hulda's younger sister. Mary Jane and her son James were living with Hugh and Hulda Rusk in 1850.

1850 > VIRGINIA > ALLEGHANY > DISTRICT 1 Series: M432 Roll: 933 Page: Page 7b
Hugh B. Rush/Rusk 41Farmer 1,000 Virginia
Hulda 38 Virginia
Mary McCallister 26 Virginia
James 3 Virginia

Although it is possible that Hugh had an affair with his sister-in-law and was the father of James McCallister, I don't think it is very likely.

Mary Jane McCallister was still living with Hugh for the 1880 census and was listed as "Jane McCallister, sister-in-law."

Janice

I am transcribing the Evergreen Cemetary in Ontario, Malheur Co., Oregon and thought I would post pictures of the Pre-1900 headstones for those interested in having them. This is a very large cemetary, there is a possibility there could be other family members buried here after this time period. If you are interested in them, I can look for them specifically.

Presumptive kinsmen were: 1) David Rusk from Pendleton Dist. to Walton Co., GA, to Cherokee Co., GA; James Rusk from Pendleton Dist., to Walton Co., GA to Jersey Co., IL. From what line of Rusks are you?

David Rusk and Mary Bailey

I am looking for information on David Rusk who married Mary Bailey, the daughter of John Bailey. David was born around 1735, not sure where, but he lived in Maryland. He had a son Elam, who was born in 1775 and died in 1800 in Maryland. He was married to Elinor Sadler. David had other children: David L., William, Mary, Samuel, Sarah, and Mary. I don't know what happened to the children other than Elam, which is who I am descended from. His family went on to Mississippi and then to Louisiana. I am really searching for David Rusk's parents and where they came from. I have found virtually nothing on David, although there was a David Rusk in a Maryland census for 1790. It has been passed down through the family that the these Rusks came from Germany. But haven't found out if that is true. If anyone is researching this line, please let me know.

Leon Rusk, country singer

Hello. I am looking for relatives of the 1940s country singer Leon Rusk, born Malcolm Leon Rusk in Canyon, Texas, Aug 14, 1921. Parents were John Paul & Ruth (or Laura Ruth) Livingston Rusk. He had several sisters -- including Christine, Norine and Dorothy, and possibly a brother Jack (Jack may be an uncle). He served in the military during World War II, was badly injured, and began a musical career after the war. He recorded for King records. He was killed at age 28 in 1950 in a highway accident near Tulia , Texas. He had a wife named Helen, then living in California and two young daughters. I am not a relative, but a music historian interested in Mr. Rusk's career.

Jeremiah McClain Rusk, governor of WI, 1881

Jeremiah McClain Rusk, the 15th governor of Wisconsin, died 21 Nov 1893. He was born on June 17, 1830, in Ohio. After marrying, Rusk moved to Bad Ax, Wis., in 1853 to become a farmer. He also operated a hotel in Viroqua and drove a stage between Sparta and Prairie du Chien. He was elected sheriff of Bad Ax County and, in 1861, to the state Legislature. His service in the Civil War was marked by courage and heroism -- twice his horse was shot out from underneath him. He took part in the battles of Vicksburg and Atlanta and in Sherman's march to the sea. Rusk was elected to Congress in 1870 by the largest margin ever given a representative from Wisconsin. His popularity in 1881 carried him to the governor's office, where he served three terms. (Published in the Capital Times newpaper, 11/21/2005; research by Ron Larson)

David Rusk family line

I am looking for information on my Rusk family line. David Rusk came from Scotland in the mid 1800's. He married Minnie Schnooks in Illinois. They had a daughter named Bessie in Missouri who married Ernest T. Harris.

Bessie (Rusk) and Ernest T. Harris moved from Missouri to Texas and then to New Mexico where they had a daughter in 1911. The daughter was also named Bessie and she is who I am descended from. While the daughter Bessie was very young, they moved to Oklahoma and lived there for a few years before settling in Arizona.

Ernest and Bessie had several other children. The names I have are Nora, Owen, Effie, Donald, Daniel, Roy, Ruth, and Rachel.

I have lots of information from Ernest and Bessie forward but not much from the generations that came before them. I would be happy to share or exchange information with anyone researching this same family.
Re: David Rusk family line

I have found him on the US Censuses - 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920. Each time, his birthplace is listed as Scotland.

I have found his daughter, Bessie, on the US Censuses - 1900,1910, 1920, and 1930 and each time, her father's birthplace is listed as Scotland.

I also have Bessie (Rusk) Harris' death certificate and it lists her father as David Rusk and has his birthplace listed as Scotland.
