To the best of my knowledge James Desoto Russom was born 1863 in Chilicothe MO, he had no siblings that I know of.

He did spend appx. 2 years in Texas (Marshal, Jefferson areas) but returned to Illinois.

He married Mary Wanger and had 3 daughters Carrie, Clara and Dora.

Can not seem to connect the dots to his past, anyone have any information? He is my GGrandfather.

He was born Feb. 28, 1884 in Whitesboro, TX. Married Lelia Ann (Leslie) in July 1905. She was born Oct. 15, 1884. I have information about their children and down&out, but not their parents aside from Lelia's mother was a Margaret Ellis.

Any help would be great, and would also be very willing to share whatever I have that you might need.

Cleo Halliday married CKS Russom (Charles King Smith)and had 2 daughters Mott & Lyde. Uncle Charlie was my Grandfathers brother. Zac Pope Russom Sr.he was married to Eulalah E. Price they had 5 kids. Zac Jr. -1919, Frances Lee,1921--James Stanley, 1926--Clara Eulalah, 1930 Jack Morgan, 1922. I have other info that i would gladly share with you. please use email address: jmrussom@sbcglobal.net

Having checked the posting of Brent R. I don't think your Alfonso is the same as his. His Alfonso was married in Alabama and moved to Texas without any stops in Mo. My interest in the Russom name is that my grandmothers brother married a Messimer who's mother was Mattie Ethel Russom. Jim

Ran across an Alfonso Russum in the 1850 census of Caroline Co., MD, he was age 3, living in the house of a John Russum age 50. Is this the same Alfonso you are discussing?

I am searching for the parents of my GG Grandfather James Desoto Russom B:2 Jul 1863 who married Mary Wanger B: 10 Dec 1869. His father died in the Civil War 9 months after his birth, and he was adopted by Mr&Mrs Joseph Halic of Utica, Livingston Co., MO.

There is alot of incorrect information here. Abner is not a Jr. His name is Abner and his father's name is Vincent. I have done the research on this myself. I also have copies from a book on the family in McNairy Co., TN. My sister, Missy, has more information than I do at the moment, as I am still trying to get my database in order, but Abner is not named for his father. It was believed that he was until I found the book before mentioned.

I am looking for any info on Margaret and Nancy Ann Russom. Their parents were James Russom and Jane Alexander. Margaret married a Benson (he seems to have several first names) and Nancy also married Noah Benson. Margaret was married in 1855 in Henry Co, IN. First, let me say that A C doesn't have any other name. That is his real name.
Also, you left out James Croley from the list of children of Blain and Pearl Kirby Russom.

Blain's brothers and sisters were:
1. Roxie Gurthia Russom who married Randolph Moore. 2.Violet Irene Russom who married William Nathan Moore.
3. Georgie Gyle Russom who married Zena Pearl Isbell.
4. Marley Ives Russom who married 1st. Lessie Howell, 2nd.
Mary Aline Williams.
5. James Maymard Russom who married Wilma Isbell.

I have a lot of info on the Russoms and Kirbys but am not online right now at home. I am writing this from work and you can email me at this address. I would send you some info on Kirbys but I don't have it in front of me right now. Let me hear from you and let me know what you need.

Doug, I made an error early in my message which I think I corrected later. John R. Howell's parents were William Wrigdon Howell and Nancy Ann Fulghum Howell.
Wridgon Rufus Howell was a brother of John R. Howell.

Sorry about that. Too many Wrigdons in that family.
I have John R.'s siblings if you need them.

James Monroe Russom married Mary Adeline Howell. She was born in Hardeman Co., TN abt. 1855 to John R. Howell and Merilla H. Johnson. John R. Howell was born 1822 in Wayne Co., N.C. to Wrigdon Rufus Howell and Nancy Ann Fulghum Howell. Merilla H. Johnson was born in 1818. They married in Hardeman Co., TN. 4 June 1840. I don't know who her parents were. Mary Adeline (Adele) Howell Russom died 25 Aug 1936 in Craighead Co. Ark. so I assumed James Monroe Russom died in Ark. also.

Mary Adeline Howell's siblings were Rigdon Rufus, born in 1846, Casandra J.M., born in 1848, John T., born in 1850, Mary E.A., born in 1852, Susan C., born in 1853, James M.S. born in 1855, Nancy M., born in 1858 and William L., born in Feb. 1863. William married N.E. Fortner. All the children were born in Hardeman Co., TN.

John R. Howell's father was William Wrigdon Howell, who was a brother of Ralph Howell Jr.; my great-great-great grandfather. William Wrigdon Howell was married to Nancy Ann Fulghum.

Parents of Willie Ernestine Messimer Salmon, b. 12 Jan 1913; d. 01 Jul 1984, Placer Co., CA were Ira Roscoe Messimer, b. 26 Sep 1889, Wood Co., TX; d. 16 Aug 1967 and Mattie Ethel Russom, b. 16 Nov 1891, Cherokee Co. Alabama; d. 26 Aug 1956, Wood Co., TX. Both of the parents are buried in Shady Grove Cemetery, Wood County, TX.

Ira Roscoe was the son of William Marion Messimer and Mary Annie Ashberry who were married in Wood County in 1884. Mattie Ethel was the daughter of Alfonso Price Russom and Theodosia (Dosia) E. Wilcox who were married in Cherokee County, Alabama, in 1886 and migrated to TX in 1893 when Mattie Ethel was two years old.

I recently acquired at a garage sale a briefcase of old genealogical records that belonged to Jack Russom, who died in the 1980's. He did his research in the 60's to the 80's and there are mostly handwritten records and trees. I am told he had no children, but I thought surely someone out there might like this material. I would be happy to send it to anyone with a connection to the family who would like to have it. Some of the earlier names I found are John Morgan Russom (b. 1871); Robert Lee Russom (b. 1868); William Rufus Price (b. 1821 NC); and Isadora Pope (b. 1835 AL).

Buried His Money And It Was Stolen. J.M. Russom of Beech Grove was in the city this morning and placed an order with the Soliphone paper for sale bills advertising his corn, hay, livestock and farming implements for sale at public auction on Thursday the 10th inst. Mr. Russom came to this county from McNairy Co., Tenn. in 1880 and has decided to move back to his old home.
Mr. Russom had the misfortune on the night of the first of this month to lose $300 of which $200 was in gold coin and $200 in silver. ( doesn't add up ). He had the money buried under the door step of his home. It had been buried about four years. He has no idea who got it. Mr. Russom keeps a part of his money in a Paragould bank, but felt that what he had buried was safe.
Mr. Russom lives one and a half miles north of Beech Grove and will leave for Tennessee as soon as he can wind up his affairs.--Paragould Soliphone Paper.
So he went back to Tenn. before he died.

I know Nancy Ann Russom had a sister, Martha Russom, born in 1814, Guilford County, NC. Died Feb 17, 1890, Union County, IA. And she had a brother George Russom.

Martha married James B. Wilson.

This is what I know about the Bensons (my grandmother's maiden name). Her mother was Volna Benson, daughter of Noah Lee Benson son of Noah Henderson Benson.

Noah Henderson Benson married Nancy Ann Russom. He died in the civil war. After the civil war Nancy and the kids (minus one son that died in civil war) moved to Indiana. Lived in Hungtinton County, Indiana. Noah Lee Benson met his wife here. Then moved to Omaha, Nebraska. He was a teacher and later on a superintendent. His was was Laura Stevens from Wabash County, Indiana. Many of the Bensons are buried in Maramec, OK.

My grandmother's name was Mary Elizabeth Russom Bagby.
She was married to Thomas Edwin Bagby, they had four children and my mother was their second or third, and she was born in Wood County Texas and lived near Quitman. In fact unless they have passed on she still has cousins there. I am interested in finding out where my gmother orignally came from. I was told that she or her family came from Alabama but have not been able to prove that because I don't know her parents names and she has been gone many years now.
