Hi,
Thank you for the reply. This information is so interesting.

I know that my great great grandfather Abraham Ploof( also spelled Ploff & Plouffe)was born in 1835 in Dunham Quebec. He was the son of Louis & Amelia Colin LaLiberte- Plouffe.
I would like very much to learn when Abraham arrived in Vermont.I do know that the Ploofs lived and worked on a canal boat. This was handed down to his son Thurlow,my great grandfather. My grandmother, Thurlow's daughter, lived with her family on the "White Wing" until she was 18 years old.

But my main comcern is finding Sarah's true identity.Maybe an obituary,a family bible, old news paper articles with family gatherings, etc.

sorry what I meant was Sarah Ann Ruston's parents could have went to Vermount from their home in Canada to escape the termoil of politicts at the time between Upper and Lower Canada. Which meant if you were on the wrong side (loosing side) you might have been hanged for treason. So her parents went to United States and she was born there. I know that one of my Dad's ancestors brother had to get out of canada around 1835 the time of the conflect as I can only find information on only the two brothers here. James and Robert but I fond nother of George Ruston in Wellington or Peel Couonty Archives.
sincerly
Bryan

Well then is she was born in Canada than she would be a sibling of one of the three brothers that came to here to farm which it could be James, George or Robert( My father great Grandfather) Ruston. During the 1830's there was a rebellion in Canada over politics and some had to flee to United States of America because they were on the wrong side of the disbute for fear of their life. As I have found there are a lot of Sarah's and Ann's mixed thoughout my family tree they are a very prominant name for girls in the family I have 6 sarah's 5 Sara's and 8 Ann's. just in the ones I have found and it is only my immidiate tree and family there are probably more in the siblings of my family tree out there.

My Richard Ruston's parents were George and Sarah(Shephard) Ruston were settled in Old Malton Yorkshire England.I have not found out the month only a year was given. I will continue my search to see if I can find a connection. Richards Grandparents were George and Mary (Banks) Ruston I have a list of their children but but not of any siblings from their children other than my own tree as of yet. Your Richard could be a grandchild of George and Marys's from one of their other children.
I find it increaseing harder to find out information back in the 1700s it is very time consuming finding just a small scrape of information at best. But I will trudge onward.
The motto on the coat of arms of the Ruston Family is To Have Patience and Endure. That is what I am doing. The Ruston name goes back to 1260 so I have another 500 years to search and then after that it would have been pernounced I.E. Philip de Ruston I found that name in 1146 records which is a Norman(French) way of pernouncing a sir name. Wish me luck!!!

I have a Richard Ruston born 1808 When his three brothers George, James and Robert(my dad's Great great grandfather) came to Canada in early 1830's he left for America (USA) to seek his fortune.I haven't any other information other than that. The first five names you have as children are numeriously spread thoughtout my family tree though different generations. Do you have any information as to who Richards parents where back in England(UK) that would help to lock things down. It would be nice to find out your Richard Ruston and mine are the same. I would love that. Back 25 year ago I had someone call me from the United States of America saying he had traced the faily tree and that we were related though the family tree. I was not interested at the time being a very young man and now I wish I had and regrete it dearly. It is sad for me as I regreat my actions now.
Reguards Bryan Ruston

No I have not had any luck in finding a Sarah Ann Ruston that was related to family in the Canadian clan on this side of the ocean. In tracing the Ruston name back to 1745 in UK I found there was a relative that went from UK in the very earily 1800's to USA and settled there and I have not found anything more about him after that. He might have been a relitive to Sarah Ann Ruston. As there have a lot of Sarah's and Ann's thought out the family tree. Do you have any information on Sarah Ann's Father's name?
sincerly Bryan Ruston

Hi Pepper,

I am researching the RUSTONs for my cousin by marriage, so I will have to check with him to see if there might be a possible connection with your Mom's family. My cousin's dad was named Kenneth Wesley RUSTON (b. 3 Nov. 1930), s/o Norman James RUSTON (b. 27 Apr 1900) who was the son of Richard James RUSTON (b. 19 Jun 1861), son of Moses RUSTON (b. 11 Feb 1837) & Mary/Martha PALMER, s/o Robert RUSTON (b.abt 12 Apr 1801 Old Malton, Yorkshire, England) & Mary SHORE (b. Ontario) who was the son of George RUSTON (b. abt. 28 Jan 1770 in Old Malton). His dad was also named George married to Mary BANKS(married 8 Aug 1767 in Old Malton).

George is a very common name right down through the generations of RUSTONs. As far as I can see from all of my research, at least four brothers did come to Canada settling in Wellington Co., Cardwell ?, Peel Co., York Co. and perhaps as far west as Essex Co.

Hope this helps a bit to see whether there is a connection. I will check with my cousin and if I find anything out then I will post it for you to see.

Jude

I know there were 4 brothers emmagrated to Canada for land given to them for services rendered as a solder to the Crown. Three brothers were Robert ( my ancestor), James and George. I was not able to find our what the other brothers name was so it could have been Norman. Norman shows up in the family tree as a brother.

Hello Patricia, I know you posted this msg a long time ago, but I have only just stumbled upon it!
Your g grandfather Robert is my g g g uncle. I have got a huge amount of information from someone I tracked down on another genealogy website. Given that this message is pretty old, you might have tracked him down yourself by now! But he has managed to trace the Rustons back to 1758 (with your g g g g grandfather!)
This is my very first post on this website, so am being cautious in my wording, as I am not too familiar with the etiquette around here yet! But feel free to PM me if you haven't got any more information since you posted this message all those years ago - I would love to hear from you, I didn't know I had relatives in Australia, how exciting! Best wishes, Jo

I am in search of more information regarding my mother's ancestry.

My mother is Lorraine Gwendolyn Ruston (born 1934) who married my father James Otto Ochsner Jr.

She has 5 other siblings (Kenneth (whom is still alive), Gerald, Raymond, Thelma, and Evelyn) My mother was born in Toronto, Ont. but, the family moved to the Thousand Islands region of Ontario when she was around 10 or so.

Her parents (my grandparents) were Stuart (spelling may be incorrect) Ruston and Mona Rose MacKenzie.

Stuart Ruston's Parents were George (aka Geordie) Ruston (born 1883) and Sarah (aka Sadie) Arleta Vohn Ruston (born 1884).

This is about all I know. There is a story that there were brothers who came over from England, some settled in the US, and some settled in Canada.

anyone with any possible connections, do not hesitate to contact me. i would love to find out more about my mother's family.

Thanks for the reply.
I am really trying to get back beyond William. Per the 1851 census, William is recorded as being born in "Ruley" (have see the atual hand written census) but I am unaware of such a place in Yorkshire and the Census takers usually noted if a place was not in Yorkshire. His wife Hannah is local being from Dunswell, next door to Woodmansey.
In 1901, Hannah Abbott (aged 81) is living with Thomas and Annie in Beverley. I do not hae a John in my notes, the only siblings that I have for Hannah Abbott (Nee Ruston) are Sarah (chr 27/8/1815), Thomas (chr 16/3/1818), Eliza (chr 21/8/1825), Easter (chr 14/4/1823) and Ann (chr 8/3/1828). All are christened at St John & St Martin parish, Beverley (chapels of ease to the Minster). Unplanned pregnancies seemed to be common in this family as in 1851 William (aged 67) and Hannah (aged 60) had Eliza (daughter aged 24) and Thomas (grandson aged 2 - agricultural labourer's son) living with them! Please do let me have details of John and your thoughts on Ruley/Ruby.

I have the Thomas Ruston details. I have his mother as Hannah. His grandparents I think would be William b. 1786 Ruby, Yorkshire and Hannah b. 1796.
In 1871 Census Thomas is shown as a stepson - mother Hannah Abbott - Cooper's wife.
I am related back to John, one of Hannah's brothers.
Family members - John, Eliza, Mary and William Moor Ruston.
I have Tom (the Beverley one) & Annie from 1881 Census and family.
