Was Harry Serevino the son of Rosario Serevino & Caterina
(Garippo) Serevino. Did he have brothers Carmen & william.
If so he was the cousin of my father. Harry was born in
Luton Bedfordshire England in March 1909. Rosario was
the brother of my grandfather Michele who stayed in England.
I am trying to find out where Harry's grandfather Felice
died. I know that his grandmother Anna (gasparro)Serevino
died in England, but have no record of Felice. Also Harry
had sisters, do you know what happened to them, they all
emigrated to Chicago USA.
Our name changed to Serevena. Originally it was Severino
so it has been very difficult to trace ancestors.

Hi Linda, I was surprised to see a message on the Ruta family. So i was taken by surprise. We did meet at your Grandmothers funeral. We went to Carol's memorial last Sept. that was the last time we saw your brothers. We hope you and your family are doing well. My wife Jeannette and I are going to Tenn. to retire in about 5 yrs. or less. We have'nt found a place yet but we have friends in Cookeville and Baxter. So take care and thanks for responding.

I think we have met. It was probably at my grandmother's funeral in 2005. Her name was Irene, married to my grandpa Harry Serevino. I am Joan's daughter, Linda.

Sorry it took so long to reply. Those first names do not sound familiar to me. That doesn't mean anything, as I only have the names of my husband's great-grandparents. They might be related. There are Paparella's from the Minturno area and Paparella's from the Bari area. As I understand it, they are not related. (?). Ours were from the Minturno area. It would be nice to help each other. Do you know which area your forebears came from? I am seeking information about Giovanni Paparella, who was married to a Carolina Lombardi in Minturno. Thanks so much. I hope we can help each other!

Hi, Susan...I'm married now, but my maiden name is Paparella. My grandmother and grandfather on the my father's side were Claire and Louis Paparella. I'm interested in the family's ancestry, so maybe we can help each other along on this!

I am reseraching the Paparella family that came from Minturno, Italy. My father in law in the son of Giovanni Paparella. Giovanni had brothers Pasquale and Frank. Giovanni was married to Carolina Lombardi in Minturno. I am seeking information about Giovanni Paparella and Carolina Lombardi and their forebears to future our family tree. Hi, just so happens I googled "Harry Serevino" who is my grandfather (step-grandfather) who was married to my mother's mom back in 1955 or so and found this message board. Harry married Irene in 1955 I think. Sadly, he passed away just this morning. He was 97 years old.

Thank you for replying to my e-mail. I have found my way back here a year later. I went to Ellis Island records.com-passenger list, and found out that my grandfater-who's name I misspelled, was actually Ignazio, not Ignorio Ruta. He had an associated passenger of Francesca Ruta, who you say is one of your aunts. Please e-mail me back with more information. My grandfather I was told had some relatives here in America. That the relatives lived in Brooklyn, NY. Any more info. would be helpful. I am sorry to hear about your aunt.

Paparella family

Hi Paula,
The Paparella name is common to Bari. My grandfather's family was: Giuseppi (my grandfather), Vito, Antonieta and Lena. His father and mother were Michele and Biagia Ruta. Grandpa came here in about 1912 durectly to Ellis Island, then to New York in the White Plains area, then to New Haven, where he lived until he died in 1970 at the age of 86. That's all I know of the family. He was an accomplished mason, worked on Yale University buildings, notably the Payne Whitney Gym and Pierson College, and built both the brick ovens at Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napoletana on Wooster Street in New Haven. He was married to Antonieta Maria Mastromatteo, also of Bari, whom he met in New Haven in about 1914. The Mastromatteos still live in Bari. There were about 16 siblings, none of whom I ever met. If it sounds like we're related, let me know. I am still trying to get my tree up on the Web and will try to do it this summer.

It was a lovely suprise to see your message. My father came here in 1923 and my mother in 1929.
As far as I know, my father, Pasquale, had two brothers, Frank and Antonio, and a sister, Mariagrazia.
Their parents were Giovanni and Carolina Paparella.
I recently spoke with Angelo Paparella from New Jersey and we compared notes, but could not come up with a "connection".
I would love to hear from you directly and I will give you Angelo's e-mail address if you wish. He may already have responded, though.

I have been searching for some time to find a link with the Paparella name in Minturno. I was born in Akron, Ohio and my father came here from Minturno sometime around 1923. He had two or three brothers (Francisco and Anthony, for sure) and a sister who married a Malagisi. Francisco lived in Akron, also, Anthony in Utica and the sister in Syracuse, NY. Their father's name was Giovanni and their monther's, Caroline.

I would love to pursue this further if possble.

My grandfathers anme was Raffaele Ruta , he was born on June 13th, 1899, I believe in Putzalo in Sicily. He came to NY , I believe in the 1920's ,he lived in Brooklyn, NY. He married Josephine Patera, she is still alive but ill at the moment. They had 3 children: Frank, Francesca, and Emanuel. I am one of three son's of Emanuel. I now live in Jackson,NJ. My great-grandfather was Ignorio Ruta. I have traced back that he emigrated to the U.

This may be of intrest to you, when I was in Italy last
February to visit family in Minturno I saw and took
a picture of a business sign with the name Michelle Paparella
on it. I don't know much about the Paparella side of my family
but understand they where originaly from the Apulia provence (the
region were Bari is located) before moving to Minturno.

Our ancestry is Polish. My father was Marian Ruta (from Krakow Poland) and my mother is Olimpia (nee Duduk from Eastern Poland that are now in Russia). My mother was stationed in Bari during the war as a nurse with the Polish Army. My parents were married in Italy. Somewhere in history the Poles either went to Italy or the Italians came to Poland.
