Nice to hear from you. I have been researching the RYALLS family on and off for many years. I think I tried to e-mail you once but it was an old link and the e-mail came back.
The RYALLS branches of your family were not Jewish. Isaac was raised by his maternal grandmother Sarah RYALLS and was baptized, married, and died as a member of the Church of England (Anglican). One of Isaac’s brothers was named ‘John Wesley’ which suggests his parents had moved to more modern forms of christianity.
Isaac was born 2 months after his parents marriage and exactly 9 months after his fathers first wife died in 1855. Isaac's father was Noah PINCHES, but Isaac, who lived with his RYALLS relatives, took his grandparents family name when he came of age.
I believe that Isaac and his wife Alice came to New Zealand following their children; your ggfather Richard Ryalls and my ggfather William Ryalls and their brother Ernest. I am unsure when Isaac and Alice arrived but the 3 sons all arrived aboard the ‘Ionic’ in 1907. William was planning to join his brothers in Wellington but he met my grandmother Kate SHANKS on the voyage out and moved to Dunedin to be near her.
Ernest died within a year of his arrival in NZ aged 23 years and is buried at Masterton. I believe (but am unsure) that the 3 boys all came out to New Zealand for employment reasons. William worked in the engineering side of post and telegraph. Richard attended art school in London but studied when he came to NZ and sat his civil service exams. I believe that Richard was also a keen cricketer.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
All the Best
