Classification: Query
Does anyone have any information about the above couple?
Z. A. Ryan and "Noren" are listed in the 1910 census of Washington DC living on New Jersey Ave, as a newlywed (5 mos) couple. He was 29 she was 13, and they appear to be sharing a home with "Noren's" mother Carrie Bodkin Johnson Finacom and her second husband Benjamin Stokely Finacom.
Z.A. born was a brakeman for the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore RR. Born in 1881 in Delaware, his father was born in Wash DC and his mother in WV.
"Noren" I believe to be Pauline (nee Johnson) I find a birth record for Pauline Johnson at the WV Vital Records website. She was born in Harpers Ferry, Jefferson, WV to Wm. T.(laborer) and Carrie V. Johnson (residents of Halltown, WV) on Nov 4 1897.
She shows up as a 3 y/o in the 1900 Wash DC (F street NW) census and translated as "Canline", the only surviving child of three births for mother Carrie b.1872 WV and father William Johnson b.Dec 1869 WV.
An Ida McDonald (tailoress) born 1869 in WV and listed as a Sister-in-law to the Head. I don't believe this is a sister of Carrie so I'm unsure of the relationship.
I believe Pauline/Noren and Z.A. Ryan had a daughter they named Helen Ryan born in DC in 1911. Helen shows up in the 1920 census as the "granddaughter" to Carrie and Benjamin Finacom at 8 years old. Carrie's widowed mother Eunice K. (Propst) Bodkin (born 1853 WV) also lives in the home probably caring for Helen because both Carrie (Govt. Clerk)and Benjamin (Foreman in Yeast Factory) were working.
I find a death certificate listed in California with the following:
Helen Yvonne Spears born 7 Jun 1911 in Dist. of Columbia
died 22 April 1992 Riverside, CA
Fathers Surname RHINE (Ryan?)
Mother's maiden name Schonebeck (Maybe father married again and she was confused as birth mother.)
I found a tree online that suggests a Helen Y. Ryan married George Edward Spears (1916 ARK - 1900 CA). No parents are listed for Helen...It would have been difficult to trace because only the Grandparents are listed in the census of 1920.
I haven't found Helen Ryan or her parents in the 1930 census. I know she was not living with or next door to her grandparents Carrie and Benjamin.
This is a lot of speculation and faith in other's research but if this is correct, it would go something like this...
1. Carrie Bodkin 1872 WV -1958 DC
married 1st) William Johnson 2nd) Benjamin Finacom
Children born to Carrie and William Johnson...
-----2. infant died before 1900 WV
-----2. infant died before 1900 WV

-----married Z.A. Ryan (1881 Delaware-)
----------3. Helen (Yvonne?) Ryan (1911 DC-1992 CA)
