"A Fairhope(Baldwin County, AL) man, Aviation Machinist Mate William H. Ryder , was among four persons killed Tuesday in the crash of a U.S. Navy plane at Naples, Italy, according to dispatches from the Associated Press. Ten of the 21 aboard the twin-engine naval transport were hurt in the fiery crash as the plane attempted to take off. Relatives of Ryder in Fairhope said he had been stationed in Malta with the Navy the past two years, and his family, his wife, Mrs. Virginia M. Ryder , and three sons, William , 8, Jim , 6 and Jack , 4 had been residing there with him."
