James Rylee, Va to GA, 1755-1835

James Rylee, born about 1755 in Halifax Co., VA (or maybe Ireland) fought in the Rev War, occupation Baptist preacher and move to GA where he diedin 1835. One daughter was Elizabeth "Betsy" Rylee who married David Morgan. Another was Peggy Rylee who married Wilson Howington, son of William Howington (also Rev. war soldier).

Would like to add other children...can anyone help? Who was the wife of James? Who were his parents? If anyone has info on this family, I would appreciate any help.

Hall and Banks Co. GA. Rylee's

I am looking for the three brothers names that came over from Ireland and landed in Savannah, GA.. The story is that two was going to go north and one was staying in the south, it seems that one made it as far north as Hall and Banks Co. GA.. Some information and pictures was sent to my grandfather back around 1956, give or take a few years, it came from a Rylee gentleman out of GA.; his daughter encouraged him to write my grandfather, Alonzo Rylee in Richton, MS., after seeing an article about his wife being killed in a tornado. She reconized the spelling and knew that we must be some relation. I thank her for encouraging him to write because it gave me a connection when I went to research my fathers family. In my dig I found that one of the Rylee offspring was a shreiff in Banks or Hall Co.. Any information on the brothers that traveled together from Ireland is much appreciated.

My understanding is that a gold mine in Georgia was once owned by a Rylee. Does anyone have any information about either of these?

Does anyone have any information on Rylees living in Georgia? I have hit a brick wall! Jasper Newton Rylee left his wife and children in Georgia to enlist in the CSA's army. He was injured at Vicksburg and, on his way back home, fell ill in central Alabama (present-day Brent County). I've tried everything to find his parents' names, but have failed miserably. If anyone has even the tiniest detail on this or may give me some suggestions, please e-mail me!

My great great grandmother was Martha Jane Leach Rylee. She was the daughter of Lemuel and Sarah Skinner Leach. She was born abt 1852 in Perry County, AL and died abt 1933 in Perry County, AL. She married Joseph Augustus Rylee, the son of Japser Newton and Jensey Melissa Ingram Rylee, on 9 June 1874 in Perry County, AL. They lived in what is called the Sprott area now. They had a number of children, and one of them being my great grandmother Josephine Fannie Rylee Ingram. I have found a Sarah j. Blythe born in TN in 1814 to a James and Margaret >Blythe who had 11 other children. Searching for family of my g-g-grandmother Nancy Rylee.
Married Henry Cagle 10-14-1852. After he died during the Civil War, she married Burwell Miller (also in Hall County). 1880 Census shows her as widowed living in Hall County next door to her son Joseph Cagle (my great grandfather) but listed as Nancy Cagle instead of Miller. Census states her father and mother were born in Virginia. Can anyone help with her family?

I found something interesting on the web in the GA records for Jasper Newton Rylee. I the 34th Ga Inf. Co. B were he served during the Civil War he is know as Jasper U. Rylee. Interesting! i am trying to find an old news/magazine clipping of my grandfather Clarence Rylee taken at Anzio during the second world war. Clarence was born in 1918n(Texas) and was the son of Charles Wesley Rylee. He had a brother named Milton and another named Bob who moved to California years ago. As a child I remember my great unlce Milton showing this picture to me. It featured a line of men coming ashore at Anzio and my grandfather was in the middle(the one with the large nose). Does anyone know of this picture? I seem to remember Milton saying it was from Life (???) magazine- but I was only a child at the time so I may have magnified it.

Many thanks and it is so great to see others with the same name after a lifetime of people asking me why I spelled it wrong.

Sarah, Please read the "post message" from Madison Bud Rylee,Texas dated 12 AUG 2001. I recognize the names of the children mentioned....particularily the twins. This is part of your family history. My Grandmother was Lona Dell "Rutherford" Rylee. Lona Dell Rutherford married Charles Wesley Rylee. They had four children.

I am primarily a FINE researcher, but I think that one of the children (Claude Doyle RYLEE) of Madison RYLEE married into my FINES. Does anyone have a list of all of Madison's children? I understand that he was married twice and had six children by the first marriage (Kitty?)and several by the second (Laura Yarbro?). I don't have much information, so any help is appreciated.

Looking for information concerning my Grandmother Nancy Lou Turpin Dodd Rylee. She was born in Crockett County Tennessee in the middle of the 1800'. She married a James H. Rylee at about 14 years of age. Her background is Cherokee. She moved to Arkansas and then married Harvey Dodd. She died in Blytheville, Ark. in the 1950's.
