THE FIRST JAMES R. RYLIE BORN AROUND 1800 CAME
TO THE DALLAS AREA PRIOR TO 1846 (HE SHOWS UP ON
THE TAX RECORDS THAT YEAR THE FIRST YEAR THAT
THERE WERE TAXES. HE CAME TO THE AREA WITH HIS WIFE
MARY (SNOW) RYLIE THEIR SON JOHN ARMSTRONG RYLIE
AND THREE DAUGHTERS SARAH E., NANCY G. AND LOUSIA.
JAMES R. DIED IN 1849 FROM A SPLEEN INFECTION,
HE WAS A BLACKSMITH AT THE TIME.
HIS WIDOW MARY AND CHILDREN FILED FOR THE PETERS COLONY
LND GRANT WHICH MEANT THEY WERE INTITILED TO
640 ACRES FOR BEING HERE PRIOR TO 1846.
MARY GOT 320 OF THE ACRES AND EACH OF THE CHILDREN.
JOHN ARMSTRONG RYLIE MARRIED A HARRIOT HARDING
1856. THEY LET HIS MOTHER MARY MOVE IN WITH THEM
IN EXCHANGE FOR HER 320 ACRES UPON HER DEATH.
JOHN A.& HARRIOT HAD A DAUGHTER FIRST NAMED MARY J.
AFTER HIS MOTHER. BUT SHE WAS ONLY ON 1860 CENSUS
GUESSING SHE DIED OR MARRIED VERY YOUNG.
JOHN A. WAS IN THE CONFERDRATE ARMY 1863
THEY HAD A SON MAJOR (HIS NAME NOT A RANK)ON
THE 1860 CENSUS THE HAD HIM AS JOHN M.,
BUT THE 1870 CENSUS HAS HIM AS MAJOR H.(AGE 12)
ALSO JAMES R. AGE 9 I BELIEVE THIS IS YOUR J.R.
BECAUSE HE DID MARRY A BELL. AND JOHN W. AGE 6
HE IS THE ONE BURIED IN THE RYLIE CEMENTERY.
MY GREAT GRAND MOTHER INA BELL RYLIE WAS BORN IN 1971
THE FOLLOWING YEAR.
JAMES R. RYLIE WAS A DEP. SHERIFF IN DALLAS
IN 1902. I BELIEVE THER WAS A SON OF HIS NAMED
WALTER R. RYLIE.
THERE I A MAY BELL RYLIE IN THE RYLIE
CEMETERY BORN DEC, 12 1876 DIED MAY 26, 1942
IN THE 1923 CITY DIRECTORY IT SHOWS BELLE RYLIE
LIVING AT A DIFFERENT ADDRES FROM JAMES R.
Wow you have more info of the earier years looks my information has been destorted in being retold so many times. Major Rylie is known to us he is call the "long lost one" because he just disapeared and never was heard from agian. i belive that May Bell was who my grandfather Lewis Rylie ran to if Bell (his adopted mother) was being too mean JR didn't really care what happen to him. Walter was never liked by my grandfater after he cheated him out of some land and never talked to him since. I will be living at my sister's house while she and her husband are on vacation. My phone # there is (360)437-1148. I'll be ther mostly after 5:00PM (PST) most of our family lives either here in Washington State or in Nevada.

Rylie, TX

(JR)James R. Rylie was awared a land grant in 1855. after i think the Mexican-American war, married Bell Rylie she was a tough short lady also stubborn too they had a son James Rylie and also the had my Grandfather who was adopted in a strange manner Bell Rylie when she heard that her daughter had a baby she said that she was not enought to be a grandmother so she went out and got my grandfather Lewis Rylie and never told anyone who or where she got him. it was told to me that all the rylie family where crack shots and used the old oak tree out side the house for target practice, when my family visited Rylie, TX the tree was still there and one could see where the tree was shot. JR Rylie was a big man over 6' 4" and had a spiecal chair made to sit in, also he let Bell run the family. The Rylie cemetary is in the town and the graves some of the Rylies are there. My side of the family hasn't had contact with any other Rylies for years, having no idea what they are doing. Lewis Rylie ran away from home at 14 yo and joined the Navy by lying about his age. he bacame one of the first Radiomen, an was the one that relayed the message from Hawaii to the mainland the Pearl Harbor was bombed. that is most of the information that i can remember also JR Rylie rasied cattle and did at least one cattle run to Califoria with Bell who saved his life in a dust storm by dragging him to a town that was miles away.
my parent has the acutal history of the Rylies but they are on a months vacation.
