Maria RYND (c.1812-1886), b. England, d. Bolivia

Searching for info. on mother of my second great-grandmother:

Maria RYND
- born: circa 1812, probably in England (though could be Ireland)
- married: 1840-05-16, in Camberwell, Surrey, England
- died: 1886-08-31, in La Paz, Bolivia

Husband: Pedro José Domingo de GUERRA y Bustamante (1809-1879)
Son: Jose Eduardo GUERRA Rynd (1847-1916)
Daughter-in-law: Carmen BALLIVIAN Grimwood (c.1859-1919)
Father: Goodlatte Rynd (c.1780-1812). Born in County Meath, Ireland. Died 1812-08-16 from wounds suffered 1812-07-22 during the Battle of Salamanca.

I'm looking for her mother, Harriet Jane (Montgomery?)

I used the Spanish naming convention, which involves post-pending the maternal surname. In order to avoid ambiguity, I've fully capitalized paternal surnames.

Philip Decker
Sarasota, Florida, USA

1837 news: RYNDS arrest, New Orleans

Hi,

I just posted an old newspaper articvle reporting the arrests of "blacklegs, gamblers, thieves and ruffians" in New Orleans, Louisiana, including Reuben RYNDS, Henry CLARKSON and William GLENN, who went by the alias "Boston Bill."
This was scanned from an original issue (NOT microfilm!) of the Newark Daily Advertiser newspaper (Newark, NJ) dated April 22, 1837, and you can see it online here:

http://theoldentimes.com/blacklegs04221837orla.html
I hope it's helpful!

Barbara
http://theoldentimes.com/old_news_la.html
http://theoldentimes.com/news.htm
http://theoldentimes.com
Re: Maria Rynd (married Pedro Jose Guerra, 1840, London)

Since posting I have learned that Maria Rynd:
1) Was the daughter of Harriet Jane (not Henrietta).
2) Had an elder sister, Mabelle Gootlatte Rynd, who migrated to NSW, Australia where she married Hugh Snell Chauncy, 1842-12-22.
3) Died in La Paz, Bolivia, 1886-08-31.

Maria's mother Harriet Jane (possibly) Montgomery, drew a military widow's pension after the death of her husband, Goodlatte Rynd:
<a href="http://books.google.com/books?id=hCsSAAAAYAAJ&pg=PT55&dq="Goodlatt+Rynd" target="_blank">http://books.google.com/books?id=hCsSAAAAYAAJ&pg=PT55&am..."
<a href="http://books.google.com/books?id=JX0DAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA439&dq="Goodlatt+Rynd" target="_blank">http://books.google.com/books?id=JX0DAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA439&a..."
<a href="http://books.google.com/books?id=8C5bAAAAQAAJ&pg=PT137&dq="Goodlatt+Rynd" target="_blank">http://books.google.com/books?id=8C5bAAAAQAAJ&pg=PT137&a..."

Harriet remarried 1815-11-30, at Westminster, London, to to John Brown(e), with whom she had additional children.

I have yet to find the record of the marriage of Goodlatte Rynd and Harriet Jane (possibly) Montgomery, which I assume happened before 1811.

Maria Rynd (married Pedro Jose Guerra, 1840, London)

Searching for info about my great-great grandmother:

Maria Rynd
b. ????, possibly County Meath, Ireland
m. 1840 May 16, London, to Pedro Jose Guerra
d. ????, probably Bolivia

According to a record of Maria's marriage (*) she was the daughter of Goodlatte Rynd, who was mortally wounded in the battle of Salamanca (1812 July). No mention therein of her mother, although I received an unsubstantiated contribution whereby the name of Maria's mother may have been Henriette or Henrietta Montgomery.

According to Burke's, Goodlatte Rynd did not marry.

At the time of their marriage, Maria's husband was Bolivian Consul in Paris. I have no idea how or where they met.

My great-grandfather, their only known son, was born c. 1847 in La Paz, Bolivia. He married Carmen Ballivian (maternal surname: Grimwood).

(*) http://books.google.com/books?id=psghAAAAMAAJ (page 89)
