I am a Sabado from Pangasinan. Roots are from La Union/Ilocos. My father is Crisanto Sr.,deceased and really missed his discipline, I am the II, Old and restless, my old Grandpa is Liberato whom I did not see, he died when my dad was 7 months old. My old grandma who took care of my dad is Eusebia (fondly called Apong Trona whom I also spent my childhood days - one of the first teachers in their time), my great folks are the first settlers in Sison Pangasinan, landed but lost their lands because of ignorance and plain un-educated in nature. Only the girls of my old roots were well educated, teachers, dentists, were able to register their lands. My granpa and the rest of his brods, lost theirs. They thought in their genre, lands they toil will keep them well fed forever - during their time, YES. Was in Grade I when I saw them lost their land, and also lost the grounds where I spent my childhood. I lost the land where I go hunting for mushrooms, wild birds, pleNtiful of fruits year-end, year-out. There in that land you will see gigantic fruit trees -tamarinds, guavas, camachiles, guayabanos, anunas, siniguelas - sarguela in ilocano (to this day still standing and fruit bearing - oh I love my childhoon, too bad the new generations now CANNOT enjoy. Sad to say my apo's can only enjoy a part of it - courtesy of my old Papaang's legacy. Am old and restless. Sabado's are good looking - men or wonen, and I have my own share of affairs. Scattered here and there. Am not rich, I live a sinple life - uray duduugan ado pay la agrayo. Hope that before the day I reckon with my almighty creator - would be able to see what I have not seen and lived with through all the years.

Anyway, insan, I just want somebody to share my inner feelings. We are 11 siblings all in all. Am the eldest. During my time, family has a hierarchy of respect. No sinno ti ina-una, he/she is next to father/mother respect. Lost these all to the NEW genre.

Okay ngarud. Feeling better now, but still am restless.

Got a daughter in NJ, that time I was told by her Mom, she gets my SABADO name.

Also got a daughter name Poko (Nancy Ferrena Astillero Sabado and a son whom I do not know his name but am sure she got the Sabado as well. I suspect they are in Hawaii.

Till then...

I never thought about how it would be reserved for Jewish people, or people of Sephardic descent to be exact.

My grandmother's family is Sábado and they're from the Philippines. I'm assuming that surname came from the book of surnames and that they are not actual Sábado descendants of Spain.
