Re: Lloyd Willis (Bud) Sabin

Sorry about the delay in my response. Here is the obituary I have for a Vernon W. Sabin who has a son Lloyd.

The Fresno Bee Tuesday May 31, 1966
Vernon W. Sabin
Funeral services for Vernon W. Sabin, 72 of Kettleman City, Kings County, who made news in 1956 when he was reunited with a brother he had not seen in 41 years, will be hed tomorrow at 10 am. in the John N. Lisle Chapel.
Sabin died Sunday in an Avenal hospital after a short illness. A native of Cleveland, Ohio. He had lived in Kings county 42 years.
Sabin and his brother Edward were reunited in Kettleman City in 1956. They lost touch when Vernon left the family home in Nine Mile Falls, Wash., near Spokane in 1915. His brother married in 1916, and lived for a time in Spokane and moved to Hawaii in 1920 where he has lived since.
Vernon Sabin retired in 1958 after 34 years as a caretaker for the Standard Oil Company. He served in the Navy during World War I.
In addition to his brother he is survived by his widow, Lucile: two sons Edwin of Fresno and Lloyd of Santa Margarita, San Luis Obispo County and five grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Belmont Memorial Park.

Notes: Vernon left the family in Washington to enlist for the war. He probably didn't live long in or near Cleveland, Ohio. However, he was born there in about 1896 but lived in Arkansas with his father Leonard R. Sabin and brother Edward in 1900, his mother had, I believe passed away.

Edward Frank Sabin, Vernon's brother lists as an only son Alfred E. Sabin of Vista and also a daughter Lois Biszmaier. His obit was out of the Times Advocate in 1983. Edward is buried in Hawaii by his wife. His son Alfred lists two sisters in his obit...Lois Biszmaier and Rosemary Panzella. Alfred's obit was also from the Times Advocate in 1994.

This line is very interesting. Lloyd's great-grandmother may have died at the Panama Canal but can't find anything for sure.

I am wondering if you would have any information regarding Edson Sabin (b. 1817 in Dutchess Co. NY - died 1878 Kossuth Co. IA)? My notes show that in 1860 there is an Edson Sabin who is living in Pleasant Prairie, WI with his wife Lavina and children: Egbert, Rudd, Peter, Sophia, Maria, John, Miles and Martin. According to his obituary he lived in Wisconsin up until 1874 when the family moved to Iowa.

I have a Lloyd Sabin of Santa Margarita, San Luis Obispo County as a survivor to his father Vernon W. Sabin in 1966. He had a brother Edwin of Fresno. Lucile was probably Lloyd's mother as she was listed as Vernon's widow. Have you looked at California death records?

Vernon W. Sabin was born about 1894 near Cleveland Ohio, the son of Leonard Sabin and unknown. Vernon had another brother Edward Frank.

I really Can't say. He left when I was 3 and my mother never spoke of him, except to inform me that he was my real father when I was about 15. Then when I enlisted in the military at the age of 17 I saw my birth certificate for the first time. It showed Lloyd as my father.

The only other information I have is the book "The Descendants of William Sabin of Rehoboth, MA" which dead ends at Lloyd with a brother named Ray Edmund, and a sister, Phyllis Loraine.

Orrin Sabin born 1851 in New York to Dennis Sabin and Betsy Buel (some trees have the name as Duel). Orrin had at least four other siblings, Amanda, Mary (my great grandmother), Charles, and Louisa. There may have been a 5th named George Sabin unless George and Charles are the same person. Dennis, Betsy and family left New York after 1851 and arrived in Wisconsin no later than 1858 where Mary married my g grandfather. The family then moved to Minnesota. Orrin later move to Oregon, Washington, and California.
Anyone connected to this line please contact:
trinity_1947@yahoo.com

I wonder if your Charles Sabin and my Charles O. Sabin have any relationship? Charles O. Sabin was born 11 Jan 1842 in New York (I'm not sure of his parentage at this point but he had a brother, William M. Sabin, born 16 Apr 1812 in New York and died 21 Oct 1875 in Hardin County, Iowa - This is my husband's GGGGGrandfather) I have more information on Charles as well as a son (Charles H. Sabin) born in 1877 but my Charles is buried in New Boston Cemetery in New Boston, Illinois (just across the river from Muscatine, Iowa. Interesting how so many names are interlaced.
I am really interested in the pictures you have. I have a William Sabin and I think I have information on Samuel Sabin also. I have been researching the William & Louisa Sabin both born in New York for about 15 years now. William and Louisa moved away from Petersboro, NY about the time that those pictures would have been taken. I've found information on them in Illinois (New Boston)and I lost Louisa there. It is possible that they came to Illinois from Wisconsin after New York. William married again to Nancy Jane Perry and they moved on to Iowa. I have pictures of their graves and have a few pictures of them in their later years. Our family is a direct descendant of William and Nancy or possible William and Louisa. It is questionable at this time as to which of them gave birth to our ggggrandfather. I will have to dig out my information to give you more information. I would hate to give you wrong information from memory. Do you have the pictures on digital or scans? I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,
Carla Sabin
sabin@iowatelecom.net

I know now that the gentleman is George W. Sabin(s). I found their marriage record in Indiana, though their surname spellings are interesting:

Name: Margaret Godin
Spouse Name: George W Scavins
Marriage Date: 18 Jan 1853
Marriage County: Putnam

Each time I search for this man, I keep ending back to Thomas L. Sabin and Priscilla Evans as his parents; but their son George W. is listed only as marrying Mary Chandler. Their first son George was born in 1865 in IN. George W. did serve in the Civil War and I wonder if it is possible he just could not find "his family" (my ancestors) because they had moved on to Iowa and started another family.

This is a note from Frank Fisher who maintains the database of Sabin with 44,000 entries:
--
Note: Elizabeth's BIRTH: Rehoboth-VR 737. [From MF] No evidence was found to identify this Elizabeth as the wife of Peter Robinson of Rehoboth, as suggested by some descendants.
--
This is located at: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=gamorri...

I respect that research, but I know it doesn't help you.

Re: Charles Sabin b. 1877

Still looking, now having updated information.

Rosetta Mae Earll b. 1860 Michigan, daughter of Alexander Earll & Cynthia Sitts, of Hannibal, Oswego, New York.

This Rosetta married in 1876, a Charles Sabin b. 1856 New York. They had a son Charles H. Sabin b. 6-17-1877, Jackson, Michigan, d. 4-16-1953 & buried in the

Peckham Cemetery near Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Rosetta divorced this Charles Sabin before 1880 and married 26 Jan 1880, William Addison Putnam. Just before the 1880 census. They moved to Red Oak, Montgomery Iowa.

and appear on the 1880 census, with the name "William Addison" & "Rose Addison", & "Charles Addison age 3 years". This "Charles Addison age 3, would be Charles

Sabin born 1877 Michigan.

In 1880 census time; Rosetta & her Second Husband, live next door to her parents, the parents are listed as Andrew Earl & Cynthia Earl along with her three brothers.

Her sister Delaphine Earl also lives next door to their parents. She is married to Chas H Smith and have a daughter Eva Smith

There is some confusion with Charles Sabin children born in Michigan about that time.

on the 1880 census one "Charles Sabin" age 2 years old was the son of "Bethel Hiram Sabin" & "Martha Lou Gardner" they was in Eaton Michigan 1880
I have seen this person with the birth date 1877 instead of 1878 on various internet screens.

The Charles Sabin, I am talking about above was on the 1880 census as "Charles Addison" a 3 year old child b. June 17, 1877 d. April 16, 1953, the son of Rosetta

Earl b. 1860 & Charles Sabin b Abt 1856, New York. but, the son was listed on the 1880 census as Charles Addison, due to Rosetta's second marriage Jan 26, 1880 to

William Addison Putnam.

That son in 1880 was 3 years old, later was the husband of Cora Calvert d. 18 Apr 1979 Cozad, Dawson, Nebraska, there is some discussion for Cora's birth date.
Cora & husband Charles Sabin b. 1877 had nine children.

Children of Cora May Calvert & Charles Sabin.
1. Gertrude May Sabin, b. 20 Dec 1907, Nebraska d. 9 Aug 1989, Nebraska. m Thaddious Ulysses Dodd
2. John Henry Sabin, b. 25 Feb 1910, Nebraska d. 14 Oct 1992, Nebraska. m. Eva Louise Cloyd
3. Jack (Jake) Edward Sabin, b. 17 Sept 1912, Nebraska, d. May 1964, Nebraska. m. Rose Margaret Budd.
4. Lila Ellen Sabin, b. 22 Sept 1914, Canada, d. 14 Oct 2003, Brazoria, Texas. m. Walter Nicholas Portiner
5. Charles (Buck/Buster) Sabin, b. 26 July 1918, Nebraska, d. 24 Mar 2006, Nebraska. m. Hazel Sybil Collicott
6. Hazel Viola Sabin, b. 8 Dec 1921, Nebraska, d. 29 Jan 2006, Nebraska. m. Harold Lewis Brecks
7. Dorothy Marie Sabin, b. 22 Jan 1925, Nebraska, d. 26 Aug 1972, Nebraska. m. Joseph Burton Juhl
8. Bud or Budd Edward Sabin, b. 9 Dec 1928, Nebraska, d. 15 Nov 1969, Nebraska. m. Norma Rojeen Hall
9. Thomas Dean Sabin, b. 14 Mar 1933, Nebraska, d. 27 Dec 1989, Nebraska. m. Meredith A. Roblee.

This family used nick names a lot especially on family pictures. Having a hard time identifying the real names on them.
Around 1914 they were living in Tofield, Canada. The Putnam & Sabin families moved there in covered wagons after 1912.
Some of the Sabin children was living in the Putnam family home. They returned from Canada before 1918.

I still do not have all the information about Rosetta Earl's first husband Charles Sabin b. about 1856 New York.

Note:
Thaddius Ulysses Dodd was first married to the daughter of Rosetta (Earl Sabin) Putnam her name was also Rosetta Putnam b. 20 Sept 1897, Lincoln, Nebraska. his

second marriage was to Gertrude Sabin.
Thaddius Ulysses Dodd & Rosetta (Putnam) Dodd was my grandparents on my fathers side. My grand mother remembered going to Canada in Covered Wagons.

Caution: There was three Rosetta Putnam girls in the family.

Re: Errors - Descendants of William Sabin

Hi - The work that Gordon did for the book was the basis for the following webpage here at rootsweb:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=gamorris

Gordon has passed all of his research for the book on to the contact person now listed on that webpage. As you'll see, the db is entitled the "Sabin Family of North America." Gordon used to maintain this online db himself, but has since turned the job over to others. Right now, there are only a couple of us who work on it.

If you click on the link above, it should take you directly to the database. You can then e-mail the person listed at the top and give him all your corrections. He will then pass the info on to me and I will update the database that we keep on here on rootsweb. Every 3 or 4 months, I will upload all the newest information that has come our way - and there is always lots of it. We welcome all corrections and additions to the material in the book and in the database. Sue

D.O. Sabin of Pickford, Michigan in 1891

August 1, 1891 Page 1

D. O. Sabin, who resided near Pickford, met with an injury last Monday afternoon which caused his death on Tuesday. He was on his way from Pickford to his home and was driving a team of young horses. Just after leaving Pickford the rains became entangled on the neck yoke in some manner, and while he was walking out over the tongue the team became frightened and ran away. Mr. Sabin lost his foot hold and fell to the ground, the wagon passing over his neck and breast. He was picked up and walked to his home, and did not appear to be dangerously injured. Late Monday night he was taken worse and died Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was 50 years old and had lived in Pickford Township for fifteen years. A wife, five daughters and two sons survive him. He was the father of Mrs. W. S. Lines and Mrs. C. E. Speck, this city. The funeral took place from the residence of Orlow Sabin his son, yesterday afternoon.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Newspaper Birth, Marriage and Death Notices." The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewjmartin/deat1887...

One more thing....yes, this Lucille A. Sabin and her husband A.R. Sabin did live in St. Joseph MI, where he was employed for his career as a Tech writer/educator for Whirlpool from the early days when Whirlpool was that small local firm, started by David Upton down by Silver Beach, and later grew into that little factory. My grandmother and her close friend Olga Krasl were the creators of the St. Joseph Art Center, and she sat on the board of Child and Family Services for many years. They were a wonderful addition to the community fabric of St. Joseph MI.

Hi all. I just happened across this site, and noticed a peculiar "Mark". This person is not the "Mark" who is related to Lucille Antoinette Michaud Sabin, of Beacon Hill Boston Massachusetts, later married to Adelbert Ross Sabin of Boston. My brother did not write that email. the email address is actually a pseudo that my rather nutty uncle (through marriage to my aunt) adopted in his effort to find a way to create chaos amongst me and my brothers. His name is James Cook, Jr., of Grand Haven Michigan, and I know this for a fact as he has emailed me over the same time period as these oddball postings about my grandmother....he emailed using the same address, and was squawking about having anger issues with me, etc. I know my brother rather well, and I have the misfortune of knowing James Cook rather well. Rest assured, this man could offer you all no historical value concerning your respectable and admirable search for roots. He was fraudulent AND misinformed, and the information he gave you was grossly misleading for you all in your honest searching. Use the info I gave here as a more reliable source. It will save you from running down dead end leads. Sorry I did not find this sooner, to stop this man's madness before he got anyone's hopes up. -- Laurel Anne Talbot Smiley Anderson, the real sister of the real Mark, and the real granddaughter of the real Lucille A. Michaud Sabin

Louis W. Sabin is my great great uncle. His sister Therisa Sabin known to us as Jerusha Ann Sabin married James Alexander Gregg in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. There is a record in ancestry of the Sabin family. Go to Search and Historical - Jerusha Sabin - 1880 census! I'm researching a connection between Louis Sabin and the Sabin Lock. The only information that comes up seems to tell that there are two Louis Sabin's. A Louis W. Sabin of relation and a Louis C. Sabin, district engineer for the Corps of Engineers. If you need anymore information, please contact me.
I just recently got to copy some photographs that were in my 3rd great aunts album. Her sister was was Elizabeth Woodard who married Sherrod Sabin. I am trying to connect Sherrod with the Sabins in Cazenovia as he and Elizabeth lived in Fenner/ Peterboro area,NY....just a few miles from Caz. I am thinking he may be the son of Samuel Sabin and Charity Miller....She died shortly after Sherrod was born. Sherrod named his first born Charity.( maybe in honor of his dead mother)

In this photo album are a number of photographs that are unidentified...taken in Cazenovia, Canastota and Morrisville NY. I can tell by 2 of them that they were taken in the Civil War era ( by the dresses the ladies are wearing)

If anyone is interested in them let me know and I can send them along to you. But more importantly, if anyone has pictures of this line...which eventually moved to Kenosha WI...I would love to compare them with what I have...maybe we will be able to identify them...and make the connection I am looking for between Sherrod and Samuel.
Kathleen

Wow, the metropolis of Tower! I remember seeing it on a map of Canada - not Alpena or Onaway or Rogers City listed on the tiny slice of Michigan showing on the map, but Tower - and cracked up. What a tiny town. I would love to know when he lived there.

I am a distant descendant of the William Sabin family; my ancestor married and emigrated with her husband to Canada. Eventually, some members of this branch made their way to Michigan as well, but the name was obviously not Sabin. My relatives are from Hillman, just down the road from there. I never knew any Sabins, and only recently found out myself that we are from that family, but you could try the county records and see if there is anything. I believe Onaway had a newspaper long ago enough that he might have been pictured, but I don't know how long either they or the Alpena News keep an archive. Also try the Jesse Besser Museum in Alpena; perhaps they have archived photos.

Would love to know the provenance of your husband's family, and see how we are related!

Nathaniel SABIN - 1788 - Massachusetts

I am seeking to obtain a copy of the letter extract referenced in the following paragraph. Frances A. SABIN (born Feb 1837 NY) was the daughter of Nathaniel SABIN (born in 1788 MA)and Polly BASSETT.

Fortunatus BASSETT perished on board the privateer brig "General Arnold", commanded by Capt. James MAGEE. They left Boston Harbor 24 Dec 1778. On 26 Dec 1778 seventy-four men were found frozen to death at White Flat in Plymouth Harbor. They had been overtaken by a snow storm of such extreme cold that the vessel became wholly unmanageable from the large accumulations of ice upon her decks and in her rigging. Although they were near the shore, so that her alarm guns were heard on the land, no help could reach them, and after suffering beyond the power of language to describe, 74 of the sufferers froze to death. The bodies were lashed on Plymouth's mill tail and water was run over them to draw the frost out of them so as to bury them. Fortunatus' body found a resting place at Burial Hill among the graves of the Pilgrims of the Mayflower in Plymouth, from whom he was a lineal descendant. - Record from a newspaper clipping found in a Bible of William Bassett SAWYER and an extract of a letter written by Frances A. SABIN [Mrs. James B. CARTER] of Seneca Falls, NY on 15 Oct 1906. Frances was a granddaughter of William BASSETT of Rushville, NY.

Leonard Sabin 1857 IA MO OH AR WA CA

Leonard is the son of John and Lois Parent Sabin. He was born in Buchanan Co. Iowa. Then moved to Andrew Co. MO. His father died in MO and is buried in Stewartsville Cem. He then had two sons born in Ohio. He then appeared in Ark and Washington state (nine mile falls) Wm Vernon and Edward Frank. Wm married a Lucille Hull after he came back from WWI and lived in Kings Co CA for the rest of his life. Edward Frank moved to Hawaii and is buried there but died in California. He married Daisy Reed in WA. Leonard is listed as a resident of Maryville CA in 1929 in a ship manifest from visiting Hawaii. He did not pass away in that county and I can't find him in the 1930 census.

Please help!!

Re: Sabean/Sabin Origin?

Sabin Name Meaning and History

1. English and French: from the medieval French form of the Latin personal name Sabinus or its feminine form Sabina, originally an ethnic name for a member of an ancient Italic people of central Italy, whose name is of uncertain origin. According to legend, in the 8th century bc the Romans slaughtered the Sabine menfolk and carried off the women. More influential as far as name-giving is concerned was the existence of several Christian saints bearing this name. The masculine name was borne by at least ten early saints (martyrs and bishops), but as a given name the feminine form was always more popular.

Hello Nancy

I am the husband of your 1st cousin Cheryl (Aunt Dorothy's daughter). I enjoyed reading your post. Cheryl was excited to see the photo of Grandma Nellie, it used to sit on Grandma Nellie's dresser. I have been researching the Sabin line for over 30 years. I always return to the Sabin research around Thanksgiving. Your 10 great grandfather was John Billington, he, his wife Eleanor and sons John and Francis came over on the Mayflower. Your 8th ggrandmother Mary married Samuel Sabin son of Wm Sabin of Rehoboth. I have had a lot help over the years starting with Ester and ending with Gordon Morris. I have the two volume set of the Sabin Family history. The database can be found at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=gamorris

below is the short line from John Billington
Descendants of John Billington

1 John Billington Born: in Spaulding, Lincolnshire, England	Died: 1630 in Plimouth, New England

.. +Eleanor (Ellen) Longland Newton
..... 2 Francis Billington
........	+Christian Eaton (Penn)
........... 3 Mary Billington	Born: 1642 in Ma, Plymouth	Died: Aft 1717
.............	+Samuel Sabin	Born: 1640 in , , England	Died: Sep 23, 1699 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Ma
................4 Israel Sabin	Born: Jun 08, 1673 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Ma	Died: Aft 1718 in Barrington, , Ma
...................+Mary Ormsby	Born: Apr 04, 1677 in Rehoboth, , Ma	Died: Dec 08, 1715 in Swansea, , Ma
...................5 Josiah Sabin Born: Jun 03, 1705 in Rehoboth, , Ma	Died: Dec 19, 1752 in Plainfield, , Ct
......................+Mary Gay (Guy)
......................6 Israel Sabin	Born: Aug 07, 1730 in Attleboro, Bristol, Ma Died: Aug 17, 1761 in Plainfield, Windham, Ct
.........................+Avis Bennett	Born: Oct 19, 1729 in Preston, New London, Ct Died: 1815 in Whiting, Addison, Vt
.....	2 John Billington

I have much more if you are interested.

Ray Moss

My email is WIRAY@aol.com
