I have a possible correction for the birth year of George R. Sackett b. 12-8-1878 d. 3-17-1918.

According to the 1880 census, James Lewis Sackett had a son, Richard age 7 which would make 1873 as his birth year.

Illinois Statewide Death Index, 1916–1950
Last Name, First Name Middle Name; Sex/; Race; Age; Cert # ; Death Date; County; City; Date Recorded
SACKETT, GEORGE RICHARD; M/W; UNK; 6007460; 1918-03-17; COOK; CHICAGO; 18-03-18

According to this death record George R. was George Richard who died 1918-03-17. Therefore, based upon his age in the 1880 census, his birth year is probably 1873 instead of 1878.

Regards,
Thurmon King

Hi Liesa,

Its been closer to 2 years since I've had time to work on Pliny Sacket's family in any detail. Did you ever come across the Rev. War files that might include Pliny? Since the Southwick MA VR's before 1845 are mostly gone, I'm not sure where else to look to see if he had any Rev War connection (all I know is that he had a farm in Southwick -- I've seen the tax list). Do you know where the men of Southwick who signed the Oath of Allegiance would have had the oaths recorded?
Thanks,
Lara

Sackett, Ebenezer Charles Sackett, in the 1850 and 1860 census. He died in 1863 and his widow remarried in 1867. Thomas and his sister are enumerated in their step-father's household in 1870.

Thurmon King
Sackett Historian for TSFA

Thank you for the clarification on the letter and when it was written. I have searched many newspapers for birth announcements and found very little. I have tried to find a marriage between any Sackett and Williams and found a few but no ties yet. I feel like I may even need to search Cananadian records with more viger. I would love to find the connection, and as many times as my gr-grandmother, changed the name she was using, i may have to look for name changes in the records (i.e. Leah M Roe, May Roe, Mae Sackett, Leah M Sackett)such as Lucy or Linda to find more threads to this puzzle.

Like I stated there may have been a connection to someone in Canada, like a marriage that took one of the daughters over the boarder and than back across home to grandma in later years. It is believed in our family, that Leah stated Lucian may of been born out of wed lock. At the time of his birth the Civil War was ending and many people may of lost their lives from that, it is a bit of a stretch, but not impossible. I have searched war records as well for many Sackett's. I fear that Lucian didn't know much about his father, at one point the fact that his father was born in France comes up and is different and listed as New York (which could of been a typo). His mother was stated to of been born in New York which fits both of the girls Almeda and Caroline.

If you have anything else, please pass it along. Or if you have any interesting places to search, that would be great as well.

Thank you so much,
Lyla Marie Sackett

Thanks for your help constructing my family tree. Just thought I would let you know that Katie Royer and Thomas Sackett had another child that is not listed. My great grandfather was William Edward Sackett, born 1900 in Illinois died 1940 in St. Louis, MO.

William Edward Sackett married Hedwig Sanuskar and they had two sons, Donald and William (my dad). If you need dates and places, they can be found in the Akins Family Tree at ancestry.com.

Thanks again!

There seems to be a misunderstanding concerning Arabella. Arabella lives in England and is married to a Sackett. They have a copy of a letter written in 1957 by a Samuel Jefferson Sackett of Chicago, IL which tells of of a fund drive in America to help restore St. Mary's Church in Sandwich. The letter states: "Specifically, a Sackett daughter, Lucinda Sackett Williams of East St. Louis, Illinois, some years ago established contact with some of the English Sacketts. The interest aroused thereby led her, with her husband, to take a trip to the ancient stronghold of the Sackett family in England, as a result to which she became imbued with the idea that we in this country, could render some assistance in the project described in the accompanying article, which was prepared by her. It has to do with the preservation of St. Mary's Church in Sandwich."

From this it would appear that Lucinda Sackett Williams was living in the mid-1900s which would exclude her from being the same as Lucinda Williams (b. c.1816), grandmother of Lucian A. Sackett.

I, like you, am puzzled as to why Lucian (b. 1866) does not show up in the 1870 census. From the 1870 census, it appears that Lucinda Williams was a widow and her daughter Almeda/Ameda was still single and Lucian was not in her household at that time. The only other daughter that we have from the 1850 census is Caroline Williams, age 2. I don't have access to the 1860 census and, therefore, don't know if there were other daughters in the Williams household at that time. If there was not another daughter it would appear that; for Lucian to be a grandson of Lucinda, Caroline would likely to have been his mother.

Thurmon

This appears to be correct. I was missing the 1870 census because i couldn't tie in Lucian when he was 3 years old. So, i had Harvey and his children in as a test to see where they would lead and if i could link the two to Lucinda(also given the name Arabella Sackett Williams, born a Sackett). i am still looking for Lucian A. Sackett's Mother and Father (father born in France from previous stated records)...however, stories of a single mother for Lucian have been pasted down the family line leaving me with a break in my family tie to the Sackett side of my family. Stories of coming from Canada have also been widely spread as well, leading me to beleive there may be a link to find in the Canada records. My Great Grandfather was Lucian Sackett, while my Grandfather was William, who received the land in Sumner(now Edgewood/Puyallup, WA) from Lucian and Leah upon their deaths. I was hoping my search would lead to a confirmation of the 1850 census being a definate tie or not. So, i do know that the census for 1880, 1900 are my family, but still looking for confirmation on the tie from Lucinda down and the tie between Lucinda (Anabella) to Lucian. Can you confirm this line?

Thanks,
LYla
I had a great aunt named Lillian. My father is Lyle Arlis Sackett, son to William Sackett, son of Lucian Sackett, and then I can't seem to find the connection to his parents. I was told that he came from Canada, but no records to show this. There was also a tale of coming to America in secret, which may be why I can't find any records either. Was Arabella Sackett Lucinda Williams, Grandmother to Lucian or was Arabella Lucian's Mother? I am so happy you replied to my post I have tracked Lucian's wife's family back to England, and beyond into the 1100's but was road blocked by the Surname Sackett for the past year.

This thread started from a 1999 post. Much research has been done by Members of the Sackett Family Association (www.sackettfamily.info)since that time. I don't have a recollection of a "Joseph Sackett" being on the "Lyon" although Weygant, in his "Sacketts of America", on page 12 does mention Simon Sackett, 1595- 1635, and John Sackett as passengers on the "Lyon". This John has been thought to have been the John Sackett appearing in the 1640's in New Haven Colony. DNA testing has yet to connect this John and Simon Sackett.
There is a Simon Sackett,1678-1718, son of Capt. Joseph Sackett, 1656-1719, and Elizabeth Betts. Capt. Joseph was the son of Simon Sackett,1630-1659, and Sarah Bloomfield. This Simon is the son of Simon Sackett and Isbel Pearce, thought to be aboard the "Lyon"..

I have copies of the death certificates for Thomas, Katie and their son George.

Katie's death certificate gives her birthplace as French Village, Ills. Her father's surname is given as BOYER. However, the certificate of her son, George gives his mother's maiden name as Katie ROYER.

As I stated in my previous note; the death certificate of Thomas gives his parents as Chas. Sackett and Sarah Hamilton; both born in Illinois.

Thus far, I have been unable to find him or his parents in the 1870, or 1880 census. So I have been unable to determine where this family connects with anyone in my database. If you have anything relating to his parents it will be greatly appreciated.

Thurmon

I have information passed down in my family about my Sacketts which start with Joseph Sackett who sailed on the ship Lyon from Bristol Dec 1st 1630. He was the father of Simon born 1672-1781 and Simon was the father of Elijah.........

It seems that there was possible another generation between Joseph and Simon.....

Does your information connect with the above in any way, since you John also came on the ship "Lyon". My Sacketts for a number of generations were in Delaware County, Ohio.
Lucian A. Sackett/Lucinda Williams connection

My gr-grandfather was Lucian A. Sackett b.1867, born NY (but may have been Canada). He lived with his grandmother Lucinda Williams b.1816, born NY, in 1880 they lived in Pennsylvania, Lucian 13, Lucinda 64 and a widow. Now i don't know if Lucinda is born a Williams or a Sackett or another surname. I don't know who Lucian's mother or father were and continue to search. If you can help please let me know.

Thanks,
L Sackett
I am unsure if I can help or not, but I have a hole in my tree. My Gr-Grandfather Lucian Sackett born NY 1867, lived with his grandmother Lucinda Williams born NY 1816. I'm just missing Lucian's Mother and Father. Lucinda Williams was a widow and lived with her grandson when he was only 13, which leads me to believe his parents parished early on in his life. Do you have any information on this line or am I not in that same line? I was just wondering if you had some of the same relatives or not. Lucian later married Leah May (born 1866) and had William Feb 1898, Clayton Aug 1892, Lena Mar 1896, their home was Harrison, Pennsylvania by 1900.

My Grandfather???

Hi to all

I have been searching my fathers side of the family he was Edward Erwin or Ervin Sackett b. Jan 24, 1912 in North Dakota his parents were Charles Sackett and Bessie C. Hunter. He died at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Seattle Washington. On June 15, 1971

His mother Bessie Clara Sackett b.Dec 13, 1888 in South Dakota died June 20, 1968 at King County Hospital in Seattle, Washington. Her parents were Charles Edward Hunter and Carrie L. Cook. I did not know these people the above information is from their Certificates of Death which were given to me by my 1/2 brother.

I have no info on Charles Sackett in my searching on Ancestry I thought I had it narrowed down to three. I chose the most respectable of them and was informed that he couldn't be possible. I'm left with the choices of an inmate at Wasala prison in MN or a patient in The North Dakota State Insane Asylum. I am hoping with help I may find someone else. Or at least put this to rest.

I have taken the Ancestry DNA test, the result of that tell me I am R1b in checking their matches I found no Sackett. I need help.

Jim Sackett in MN
wrongwaysnowbird@wiktel.com

Dolly Sacket(t)/ Hannah Saxton married to Sackett

To b_wizer,
This would indeed be a lovely lead, but unfortunately the dates are wrong. Our Dolly Sacket(t)/Saxton/Sexton married Jesse Viets in Mass or Vermont and all of their children were born there before they moved to Ashtabula Co., Ohio. about 1823. The Viets biographer lists Dolly's name as Saxton; she is listed in Pioneer Women of Ashtabula Co., Ohio, Who Came To, Or Were Born in This County Before The Year 1850, as Dolly Sarket, born VT, and married to Rev. Jesse Viets.( This list was transcribed from handwritten notes taken in interviews with the pioneers or their descendants, and thus I think the name was probably Sacket originally) You have given me the third possibility of Sexton.
In 1942 a member of the Viets family contacted my grandmother, Dolly's gt. grandchild to give her her Viets family line. In that letter Isabel Viets skipped a generation ( that of Jesse and Dolly) and had a Ruth Sackett as the wife of Seth Viets. Hence my confusion when I wrote my first query) Seth was Jesse Viet's father. His wife, however, was Ruth Smith. Jesse's wife is identified as Dolly Ann Sacket(t)--at least by the descendants of Mary Ann Viets Benson. Mary Ann was the sister of Eunice Viets Watson, my great, great paternal grandmother and both were daughters of Jesse and Dolly Ann.
Abner Sacket who lived in Westfield, MASS did have a daughter, Dolly, born in 1777. I've been unable to discover any further information on her. Jesse Viets moved to Westfield when he was 20. It seems likely that he studied for the ministry there and he certainly could have met his future wife there. But I've no evidence that happened.
So that's my problem, and more than you could possibly want to know.
Sorry!
Pat
