My grandfather was born in 1898. His father Charles was born around 1875. Could be related to my great grandfather. My father talked of an uncle who went west but was not sure when or where.
Correction: We found Edward Sackman's birth cert (not an original) and it lists his father's name as "Leonard" NOT "James", but in the post I read for the 1920-1930?Warren County, IL Census it lists the father's name as "Howard". Was his legal name "Howard" or "Leonard"? Father of George, Edward, Della, Corda, Harry, Benjamin H., Bessie, & Ethel Sackman.

After reading these posts, I'm finding that my great grandfather, Edward Sackman, was a brother to Harry Sackman. Was their father's legal name "Howard" or "James"? Also, was their mother's legal name "Malinda" or "Matilda"? We have found both names listed on birth certs and in obits. Please read the info on Edward's family, also a brother to Corda Sackman Dixon, in my post dated 7/16/08. Any additional information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The Sackman family mentioned here from Warren County, IL is my mother's family. Edward (Ed) & Bertha Kelly Sackman (my great grandparents), and sons, James (Jim) M. (my great uncle) and Harold L. Sackman (my grandfather) were originally from Fulton/Schuyler Counties. Harold and my grandmother, Mary Diamond Sackman, moved to Mercer County (north of Aledo) in the late 1940's. Ed & Bertha soon followed, along with Jim and his family. Jim's family later moved to Tacoma, WA. My grandparents, Harold & Mary Diamond Sackman, lived and farmed north of Aledo (Hamlet) until my grandfather passed away in Jan. 1976. He also was an auctioneer. My grandmother worked for many years at the Warren Co. Livestock Auction (sale barn). She died in June 2004.
James M. (Jim) Sackman (my mother's uncle) died in Jan. 1982. Jim had one daughter, Sandra J. Sackman James. My mother, Laura "Jane" Sackman Bertelsen Chandler, would like to locate Sandra as they are the only first cousins on their fathers' side. Anyone having info on Sandra J. Sackman James would be appreciated.
My mother remembers her great aunts, Corda, Della, and Bessie, as these were her grandfather's (Edward Sackman) sisters.
Also, we are trying to find into on this Sackman clan's parents. We have Edward's birth certificate, although not the original, giving his father's name as James Sackman and his mother as Malinda Jyree. After reading these posts, I'm wondering if his father's name was "Howard".? We have reason to believe that his mother, Malinda (or Matilda) Jyree is full-blooded Cherokee, but have found no record of this.
Anyone with information please reply.
Thanks. Laura Bertelsen England

Theresa, thanks a lot. From the age you give, this Joseph Sackman would be the precise age of the son of Anton, whose year of birth -- based on the 1860 US Census of Louisville -- was 1848/1849 (depending on whether the census was before or after his birthday). If he was born after June 1st, 1848 but before May 31st, 1849 then he'd have been 77 as of the date on the gravestone ( May 31st, 1926).

My maiden name is Sackman. I have traced the Sackman family tree via the web. Henry Sackman's father was Daniel Jakob Sackman. Henry was born Aug. 6, 1815 or 1816. Isaac was his younger brother born Feb. 21, 1833. Henry was born in PA. His father moved the family to Richland, OH where the other children including Isaac were born. Daniel Jakob later went with the younger children (including my great, great grandfather William Bertsfield Sackman to Caldwell Co. MO. Henry was old enough to stay in OH and did so. Try looking at the LDS website www.family search.org. Lots of info there. As a pioneering family coming to America in 1752, there is alot of free material about them on the internet. Look around.

Hope you are still visiting this site. I'm looking for a lengthy genealogy I found on i-net a couple years ago for our Sackman lineage beginning with Johan George Sackman of Germany to USA in 1700?---- it was authored by Janet? I think....any help anyone can be, I'll appreciate it! My cousin Donna and I are about the last of the Sackman lineage living in Caldwell Co. MO----many ancestors in the surrounding cemeterys. In fact, the Sackman's are one of the founding families of the county. THX, Marti

Please send what you have, I will appreciate anything I can get a hold of. I should have read all your replys before I responded. This is so interesting. Unless I look things upon the computer I really don't have much time to go places and look things up. Thanks again for everything you have gave me.
Shirley

Found my mothers obit on your board, Edna Mae Coots Sackman, was wondering if the rest of the Sackman's are related or just a list of different Sackman's, I am trying to get information on my grandfather, Harry Sackman, brothers and sisters children & grandchildren. Thank you

Re: Joseph SACKMAN

Hello. I don't know anything much about Joseph at this time. I know that he was married to a Louisa Schinnerer on July 23, 1876 here in Columbus, Indiana. He also married a Flora Werner on possibly 1913 also here in Indiana. I've found a Cemetery record where he's buried at Garland Brook Cemetery on May 31, 1926. It lists him as being 77 years old. I've not tried to order a death cert. on him to see who his parent's might have been yet. When I do, I will let you know. Hope we might connect some time :)
