Hello Jo Ann,

I am so glad to hear from you! I would love to share information back and forth. I have connected up with another Sacra relative who lives in Richmond, Virginia. They sent me Elizabeth Blunt Sacra's funeral write-up, from the newspaper, as well as some other family info. so between the three of us, I hope to be able to further the research on this family.

You can email me directly at s_harding@hotmail.com

Looking forwarding to hearing from you again. I did not have ANY info on Elizabeth's side of the family, so this is great.

Regards,
Sandra

Hi Ollie,

I just remembered another connection that I found yesterday to the Blunt family that might interest you. Elisabeth H Sacra's brother, William J. Sacra, married an Elizabeth E. Blunt. You can see the information on them on the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 census. One puzzle that I am trying to figure out with this couple is who are the adopted sons listed on the 1880 census, and are the children in the 1860 census theirs or not? Another adoption or biological?

If you have any furter info on this family, let me know!

Sandra

The information that I have is that Rosa Alma Blunt's parents are Robert Page Blunt and Parthenia F.(Blunt). I do not have the maiden name for Rosa's mother. I believe that they were both from Hanover, Virginia, but I am not 100%.

There you go -- stay in touch.
Ollie,
Thanks for getting back to me. I was able to find a link right away to the names that you mentioned. The William Henry Carpenter in your last email is also in my PAF. I have him as being born 30 Sept 1852, Hanover, Virginia, married to Rosa Alma Blunt, who was born 5 Jan 1856, in Richmond, Virginia. William Henry Carpenter's father is William H. Carpenter, born 1796,in Virginia, and the mother is Elizabeth H. Sacra, born 21 June 1820,in Hanover, Virginia. How is that for a direct link!

So where I am stumped is in following the Sacra line further. I have had several good leads and a great book that was put together on the Carpenter family. Now I want to know more about the Sacra'a.
If you have anything, I'd appreciate it.

Sandra

RICHARD C. SACRA - CHOCTAW

From the book :

LEADERS AND LEADING MEN OF THE INDIAN TERRITORY, by O'Bierne, published 1891, page 43

RICHARD C. SACRA was born in Sedalia in 1857, and educated in Sherman, Texas.

He married Cleming Davis, daughter of Dr. Davis, of Doaksville, at Davidson, in 1875, and in this manner procured his right in the Territory.

When settling down on Glass Creek he took a stock of cattle with him to the country, which he has since disposed of, investing in thoroughbred English Herefords, of which he has at least five hundred head. They were purchased in Louisville, Ky.

About eight months ago Mr. Sacra left his home farm to come to Purcell (I.T.) for the benefit of his children's education, and during that time he has been running a large livery business, which he sold out about August 8, 1890.

Mr. Sacra now has some 2400 acres enclosed, and gives labor to about forty hands.

He has five children.
***********
Note: Mr. Sacra was not of indian desacent himself, but by marrying a woman who was of indian descent ( Choctaw), he became a citizen of the Choctaw Nation by Inter - marriage. The children, however, would have inherited Choctaw blood from their mother.

RE James Sacra of Tennessee: So far as I know he is in fact the only Sacra/e to go to Tennessee. I believe he may be a son of John Sacrey of King George Co., VA, who married Nancy Bailey in 1804 and was in tax lists until 1817 in King George Co. This is far from proven but after extensive review of these families, I have found no other who might be his parent.

Reuben Sacra, born about 1768, died after 1840, of Hanover Co., VA had two daughters born around 1800, names not known. He also had a son Edmond Sacra born about 1807 in Hanover County. Your Sacra is probably one of those daughters. Reuben was the son of Sabra Sacra of Hanover Co., Virginia, a widow by 1782. Her husband's name is not certain.

Annette and William are buried in the Fleshman Family Cemetery in Louisa Co., VA.

William was the son of Edmund Sacra and Annie Elizabeth Nuckolls, married 1855 in Louisa Co., VA.
Hi Susan,
Stapleton Sacra was the son of James S. Sacra (1803 to after 1880) of Spotsylvania Co., VA and Shelby Co, KY, and Elizabeth Curtis. The proof is the pension file James filed to get a pension based on the service of his son John Sacra, which names and describes all his children, including Stapleton. James was the son of Charles Sacra and Sally Crawford of Spotsylvania Co., VA and grandson of Sabra Sacra (female) of Hanover Co., VA. I have much more information on this family.
Marcie,
I do not show any Sacre's(of any spelling) in TN. All I can tell you is- James Sacre(Sacrey) b. abt. 1720 Caroline Co. VA. Had sons Benjamin b. abt. 1752, mar Ann,James C. Sacra b. 1755 VA died in Shelby Co. KY, Isaac Sacre(a or y) B. 1758 d. 1807 KY, William Sacre b. 1765 d. ? and Thomas b. 1763 d. 1807 ?
Now I have info on James, Isaac and William and don't see any of their sons in TN, but William had at least 3 sons b. VA 1802 to 1807, it's possible a James could also be there. And on Benjamin and Thomas I have no info. One of them may have gone to TN and had a son abt. 1805.
Sorry I can't be of more help but check on some of these names in census records.
Betty

They are listed in the 1850 Census, Hanover County with children, of which Reuben Edmond Butler, age 15 was my GGG Grandfather. Found several listings for Sacra in Hanover and surrounding counties, so not sure where to start. Please contact me if you have anything. Thanks.
